Chapter 552: Taking the Blame
Hayate Gekko, Aoba Yamashiro, and Neji Hyuga had all given detailed accounts of the battle in the eastern sea. The time, place, and people involved were clearly described.
Ino traveled back to the eastern sea of three days ago and, without much effort, found the Three-Tails sleeping on the seabed.
The Three-Tails was extremely vigilant. From a great distance, it sensed her strong hostile intent.
Ninja could fight underwater for a period of time, and Sage Mode allowed one to absorb external natural energy for bodily consumption, but a land creature was ultimately no match for an aquatic Tailed Beast like the Three-Tails.
Ino had originally planned to sneak over, use her Sharingan for a forced takeover, and then extract ten to twenty percent of its chakra to feed her little fox. Now that she had been discovered, she had to launch a direct assault.
Seeing her crimson Sharingan and the black cloak with red clouds, the Three-Tails had no intention of communicating. It took a deep breath, compressed the water, and spat out more than ten giant water bullets in a fan-shaped pattern.
Ino had entered Sage Mode long ago. Now, her right hand swept through the water in front of her.
"Sage Art: Water Style: Water Mirror Technique!"
A perfectly smooth water mirror appeared out of thin air. In the mirror, another Three-Tails appeared, also spitting out a volley of water bullets.
Seeing Ino use the technique of its former jinchuriki, the Three-Tails became extremely annoyed. It opened its large mouth, and blue positive-attribute chakra and purplish-black negative-attribute chakra mixed together. A dark, high-density chakra sphere began to spin rapidly.
Ino could control Kisame; controlling the Three-Tails with genjutsu now wouldn't be difficult.
Her Sharingan emitted a mysterious rhythm, and the surrounding environment rapidly changed with the infusion of her spiritual energy.
The Three-Tails had probably been controlled by Obito with the Sharingan for so long that it had developed a psychological trauma. Just as Ino activated her genjutsu, it canceled its Tailed Beast Bomb, which required a longer cohesion time and line-of-sight lock. It retracted its head into its shell, and its turtle-shaped body curled into a ball, spinning at high speed like a wheel, and charged towards Ino.
On average, Tailed Beasts were about 50 meters tall, with two exceptions: the strongest, the Eight-Tails and Nine-Tails. The Eight-Tails was 60 meters tall, and the Nine-Tails was 70 meters tall.
The Three-Tails lay flat on the ground, making it the shortest of the nine Tailed Beasts. In Ino's opinion, it was definitely not 50 meters tall. It lacked height, but it grew sideways, making its body even more robust than the other Tailed Beasts. At this moment, it was like a super-sized Human Bullet Tank charging over. Ino had to cancel her genjutsu and activate her ultimate move.
"Sage Art: Ice Style: Ice Age!" The Ice Release chakra had long been integrated into her bloodline. She didn't form any hand seals but raised her hands. In the next second, a massive amount of Ice Release chakra erupted from all her chakra pathways. The seawater temperature dropped rapidly. Corals, shells, reefs—everything was frozen. The cold wave swept out in all directions, almost freezing the entire seabed.
The Three-Tails charged forward, sending ice chips flying everywhere. The impact carved a deep trench in the solid seabed. Ino continuously converted her chakra into freezing air.
In the first second, the Three-Tails charged over a hundred meters. In the second second, it only advanced twenty-five meters. By the third second, its momentum was finally exhausted in the face of the endless ice. When it was completely frozen in the ice, what appeared before its eyes was a pair of crimson Sharingan.
Ino directly used her Sharingan to control its mind, then used several Wood Style vines to extract the Three-Tails' chakra, and finally sealed the Three-Tails' chakra.
She extracted its chakra for a whole day. Only when she sensed Hayate Gekko entering her perception range did she send a signal to the Three-Tails to surface and prepare for the upcoming act.
"It's so cold. What is this?" Hayate Gekko's own chakra was a bit low. He wanted to find a place to rest for a while, but a chill came from the reef under his feet. He couldn't help but look down. Just then, the Three-Tails' head also emerged from its shell. Hayate felt a slight illusion; he saw an emotion called relief in the Tailed Beast's eyes.
Soon, Madara Uchiha appeared. To show how awesome he was, he fought Mei Terumi while simultaneously controlling the Three-Tails.
The Three-Tails resisted fiercely in the spiritual world.
Madara found it quite strange. This Tailed Beast's resistance to the Sharingan is a bit high, isn't it? But he quickly connected it to Obito's shenanigans in the Hidden Mist Village. Being controlled for so many years, developing a resistance to the Sharingan... hmm, that's understandable. No matter, I'll just increase the intensity of my control.
Two days later, the battle in the eastern sea ended, and Tobi handed the Three-Tails over to Obito.
The Demonic Statue Sealing Jutsu was a sealing technique, not a kekkei genkai ninjutsu. Obito himself knew how to use it. But in the past, there were nine heroes working together. Now, he was all alone, which was a bit sad.
Nine people took three days to absorb it. Now, with just him, it would take at least a month.
Obito wasn't in a hurry. A month was a month. Slow and steady wins the race.
On the second day of extracting the Tailed Beast's chakra, the Three-Tails suddenly went berserk. With ferocious eyes, it opened its mouth and bit off Obito's left leg!
Zetsu, who was hiding in the shadows and didn't want to participate in the Demonic Statue Sealing Jutsu, felt speechless. You can even mess up extracting a Tailed Beast's chakra. You're utterly useless!
The work of extracting the Tailed Beast could not be stopped. Once it stopped, the Tailed Beast chakra within the Gedo Statue would go on a rampage.
Zetsu quickly intervened and took over the sealing work.
At the same time, he used his own ability to help Obito reattach his severed leg. He felt that the Three-Tails' hatred was a bit inexplicable and asked Obito, "This Tailed Beast seems to care a lot about you, with a deep-seated hatred. What's going on? What did you do?"
After Zetsu took over the Demonic Statue Sealing Jutsu, Obito decisively slacked off.
After his severed leg was reattached, he lay on the Three-Tails' shell in a starfish position.
"It's Rin. It must be Rin watching over me. She's so kind. She must be trying to stop me..."
Zetsu looked at the Three-Tails. The Three-Tails also looked at him strangely.
Are you crazy? What does Rin Nohara have to do with this?
Obito glanced at Zetsu contemptuously. "Just kidding. It must be because I controlled the Fourth Mizukage for so many years that some of her hatred remained in the Tailed Beast. Tailed Beasts are originally a mixture of various negative emotions. It's perfectly normal for it to have some hatred for me, isn't it?"
Obito willingly took the blame, and there was even a hint of smugness in his tone.
He gently stroked the Three-Tails' shell, as if stroking the hands of a beloved lover.
After obtaining the Three-Tails' chakra, Ino used the same method to go back three months and, disguised as Deidara, attacked the wandering Six-Tails jinchuriki, Utakata.
The battle ended with "Deidara's" retreat. After Ino collected a considerable amount of the Six-Tails' chakra from the battlefield, she intentionally guided Utakata to meet with that Miss Hotaru, who had the character for "control" written on her arm, once again.
