Lugia's words carried a hint of provocation. Hearing them, Latios and Latias immediately looked displeased. The two Eon Pokemon flew straight up to Lugia, faces full of anger, calling out without the slightest fear!
"Sigh… looks like this battle is already unavoidable. Well, that's fine—being able to fight the legendary Lugia… honestly, just thinking about it gets me a little excited. In that case… come out, Aerodactyl! Zapdos! Articuno!"
"Roar!!"
"Kreeeaaah!!"
"Skreee!!"
Seeing the scene before him, Liam understood that Lugia would not step aside so easily. The only way to proceed was to defeat Lugia in battle before dealing with Pryce's situation. With that thought, Liam swiftly switched into battle mode and released Aerodactyl, Zapdos, and Articuno.
Aerodactyl had recovered most of its stamina after several hours of rest, so once it appeared, Liam immediately leapt onto its back—lightening the load on Moltres so that Moltres could enter battle unburdened.
Then Liam turned to Harribel and reminded her:
"Harribel! Now isn't the time to think about anything else. Our opponent is a legendary Pokemon—its power is overwhelming! Focus. We'll deal with the Masked Man later. First we must restrain Lugia!"
"Mm! I know! Lugia! I am Harribel, a member of Johto's Elite Four! I hereby accept your challenge! I will defeat you with all my strength!"
Harribel's gaze turned sharp—every stray thought vanished as she fixed both eyes firmly on Lugia and shouted.
"Huh? So formal? Then I guess I should say something too? …Fine. Lugia! I am Liam, Champion of the Kanto Region! I look forward to battling you!"
Perhaps influenced by Harribel's seriousness, Liam straightened his posture and declared just as solemnly.
"Aaooo!! (Good! Then let us begin!)"
Immediately after both challengers issued their declarations, Lugia let out a clearly delighted cry. It whipped its long neck with force—then suddenly unleashed a powerful Hydro Pump, sweeping across the battlefield like a cannon blast!
Liam: "Dodge!"
Harribel: "Dodge!"
"Cryaaah!"
"Kreeeaaah!!"
"Skreee!"
"Ouu!!"
"Yaa!!"
Almost simultaneously, Liam and Harribel issued evasion commands.
Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Latios, and Latias reacted instantly, each dodging the Hydro Pump with impressive agility.
Five legendary Pokemon circled around Lugia at high speed—the energy within each of them beginning to surge!
Liam: "Moltres, Flamethrower! Articuno, Ice Beam! Zapdos, Thunderbolt!"
Harribel: "Latios! Latias! Dragon Pulse!"
The moment Lugia was fully surrounded, both trainers gave their orders.
In an instant, five powerful attacks shot toward Lugia—fire, frost, lightning and twin Dragon Pulses, converging on Lugia from all directions!
Just as the attacks were about to hit—
"Aaaooo!!"
Lugia let out a deafening cry. The two floating wing-like orbs beside its head suddenly shone brilliantly. A deep blue, circular barrier spread out around its body!
The five attacks slammed into the shield—light flared everywhere—
but Lugia remained completely unharmed, still hovering effortlessly. The barrier had not even rippled.
"Aaoo!! (My turn!!)"
With another roar, Lugia raised its head. Translucent blue particles gathered rapidly in its mouth—then with a snap of its jaws, Lugia fired a translucent Aeroblast, streaking through the air toward the highest target: Zapdos!
"Zapdos! Detect!"
The attack was far too fast—normal dodging was impossible. Liam could only rely on Detect.
"Kreeeaaah!!"
Zapdos nearly took the Aeroblast head-on, but at the sound of the command, its eyes flashed sharply. With a razor-thin evasive twist, Zapdos slipped past the attack—the Aeroblast carved through the sky and pierced the clouds above, vanishing into the heavens.
Zapdos glanced at the few feathers sliced off by the attack, a bead of cold sweat forming.
"Damn… such power! So this is Lugia's Aeroblast… way too strong! We absolutely cannot let that hit!"
Liam felt cold sweat himself. If that Aeroblast had struck Zapdos directly, even Zapdos would likely have been knocked out instantly.
He also realized—Lugia was smart.
It knew the biggest threat among the five was Zapdos, the Flying-type's natural predator. That was why it targeted Zapdos first. If Zapdos fell, winning would become much harder.
"Aaooo!! (Ha! You dodged? Good! Again!!)"
Instead of being frustrated, Lugia grew even more excited. Blue draconic energy suddenly wrapped around its body, forming a massive Dragon Rush!
With a burst of force, the Dragon Rush lunged straight for Zapdos again, jaws wide open!
"Zapdos, Agility! Moltres, Fire Spin! Articuno, Ancient Power!"
"Kreeeaaah!"
Zapdos cried out helplessly but obeyed. A reddish aura enveloped it as it accelerated sharply.
"Aaooo!!"
The sudden burst of speed caused Lugia's Dragon Rush to miss, dispersing mid-air. Lugia flared its wings, stopped, and turned sharply—mouth beginning to gather another Aeroblast.
But—
"Cryaaah!"
"Skreee!"
Moltres' Fire Spin and Articuno's Ancient Power arrived at the same time.
A massive tornado of flames and several glowing, razor-sharp stones engulfed Lugia completely!
Since it was already charging an attack, Lugia could not use its barrier this time. The flames swallowed it whole, the boulders struck it violently, and a muffled cry came from within the blazing vortex.
"Nice!! Moltres! Use Solar Beam! Articuno! Prepare Sheer Cold!"
Seeing their attacks land cleanly, Liam's eyes brightened. He quickly ordered both birds to unleash their full-power moves while Lugia was restrained.
"Cryaaah!!"
"Skreee!!"
Moltres shot upward to absorb sunlight. Articuno rose as well, gathering freezing energy in its beak. Both poured every bit of strength into preparing their ultimate attacks.
But just as they reached mid-air to gather power—the roaring firestorm below suddenly echoed with a sharp, resounding cry—
"Aaooooo!!"
A thick Aeroblast tore upward—shattering the Fire Spin in an instant— and swept directly toward Moltres and Articuno with terrifying speed!
