"I'll treat you to a meal, is that okay?"
"Hmm?"
At the office door, Li Hua let go of his hand. He was deeply suspicious of Jiang Nian's unprompted generosity.
"Are you trying to pull a fast one?"
"Pull what? I just missed mealtime, that's all," Jiang Nian replied, "Let's eat at the entrance, Ningdu Meatballs."
"Something that costs ten bucks a bowl? You planning to not live tomorrow?" Li Hua could be quite down-to-earth at times.
"I also treated Zhang Ningzhi last time," he said.
Li Hua: "And then?"
"She wasn't as talkative as you are."
"Chi Shi."
Li Hua was just being polite; after all, ten yuan for a bowl of meatballs was a bit steep for a high school student.
Five yuan could get you a meat and two veggie meal at the cafeteria. Since Jiang Nian was offering, he couldn't refuse.
"Hua, you're always so tight-fisted, spending big money," Jiang Nian turned to ask, "How much is your living expense?"
Hearing this, Li Hua immediately felt a twinge in his heart.
