Adriana's fists trembled, but she forced herself to respond. "I would never do something like that," she said firmly. "My dignity won't allow it."
With tears blurring her vision, she walked away.
The moment she exited the café, she deleted the message she had sent to Peter.
Tears streamed freely down her face as she walked, her chest aching.
'My love life is truly strange,' she thought bitterly. 'I had no one for so long. Then I met someone who left me for a few dollars. And when I finally had money… I met someone who wanted me because of it.'
Then she moved on and found another man, and this time she didn't even have enough money to lose again.
The irony of it all twisted painfully in Adriana's chest.
