When the door was pushed open, Ulva and Xander jolted upright in bed, the sheets wrapped around them. Their eyes widened in utter shock. There was no doubt—they had been caught in the act.
The room was silent for what seemed like an eternity. Only the sound of heavy breathing, steady and consistent, sounded throughout the room.
"Well, this is interesting," Varon finally said, breaking the silence.

Xander slammed the bottle down on the table and sighed as he sank into his chair.
"Just say it. Say what you want to say."
Varon said nothing at first, nor did he move. He stood in the same spot as he had for the past few minutes, since he saw them in the act.
Varon had given Ulva a minute to get out of the room before he stepped back out to the veranda to let her get dressed. Then he had returned to that exact spot, watching Xander as if he had a hole in his head.
