Chapter 245 - Lies Leave Traces

Klaus knocked on the door.

Once.

Twice.

The door barely opened.

—What do you want? said Katrina, already ready to close it.

—Wait... please.

The door was already closing when Klaus placed his hand against the door.

— Katrina… don't close.

—It's important.

—It's about Miria.

Katrina's look changed immediately.

She took a breath, then opened the door again.

- Between.

Klaus had barely finished his story when Katrina shook her head.

- No.

- No ? he repeated, surprised.

— I don't believe you. For Asher to do this...

She crossed her arms.

—Besides, this isn't the first time Ray has tried something.

—So what would have changed this time?

Klaus hesitated, then took out the letter.

- That.

Katrina took it.

His eyes scanned the lines.

His face closed.

She read again.

Then a third time.

Suddenly, she stood up abruptly.

— This letter is false.

- What ?!

—Are you sure?

She pointed at the paper.

— Asher never expresses himself like that.

—And that turn of phrase…it's not his style.

—Whoever wrote this knows Asher… but not well enough.

Klaus turned pale.

—So someone imitated his handwriting.

"Bad," Katrina confirmed.

—And that scares me.

She suddenly raised her head.

"Klaus, let's hurry to Asher's house.

- For what ?

— Because if Miria realized that the letter was fake...

His voice trembled.

— She must have realized that someone imitated her writing.

A heavy silence settled.

Klaus didn't wait another second.

---

At Asher's, Alix opened the door.

—Klaus? Katrina?

—What's going on?

—Where is Miria? Katrina asked bluntly.

Alix hesitated.

— In her room... She hasn't spoken to anyone for hours.

They started to run.

—Miria! Katrina called, knocking on the door.

— Open, please!

No response.

—Miria!

Katrina turned pale.

— Move aside. Said Alix in a firm voice.

She placed her hand against the lock.

A brief burst of magic, discreet, almost imperceptible...

The door gave way.

They entered.

—Miria...

His body lay on the ground, lifeless.

His breathing was slow, irregular.

On the bedside table… an empty booklet.

Katrina fell to her knees.

— No… no…

Klaus rushed over, checked his pulse.

— She's breathing... but it's very weak.

Alix picked up the plaque.

— They are powerful sedatives...

— In large quantities.

Katrina turned pale.

— An overdose.

The word fell like a blade.

"Call an ambulance," she said firmly.

- Right away.

Alix held Miria's hand, unable to let go.

— Hold on... Miria...
