Joshua's POV
For weeks now, my dreams had been blank. Just endless darkness that made me feel small.
And when I was awake, every waking thought was on getting Ryder the help he needed.
And despite my best effort, He'd continued to waste away. He was all bones and teeth and no matter how dark my dreams were, I preferred them. At least in them, I didn't have to face the fact that despite my best efforts, the end was near.
Ryder Steele was going to be dead in a week without some miracle and dodging Alpha Greg's thugs while taking care of my friend was becoming harder...too hard.
So I preferred the darkness and it has been consistent until...today.
My eyes snapped open. Sweat coated my skin...the room was cold but I was sweating like someone emptied a bucket of water on me.
My heart hammered angrily against my ribs.
Kai.
