The tower was an eerily long building.
Its walls were the darkest shade of blue I had ever seen, so dark that they appeared black at a distance.
The tower top was shrouded by a small ring of dense rainclouds that were faintly drizzling.
I remained in the air a few meters away, watching for any creature hiding in ambush.
"Protect me Lord." I whispered, as I got to my knees atop my Barrier, my palms open side by side revealing my tattoos.
On the left was a mountain, and the right, a sword. Symbols of my faith.
I said a short prayer.
Upon raising my head something in the distance caught my attention.
My eyes narrowed as I watched the form advance towards the tower, its body continuously reshaping, increasing its speed.
A single flesh monster, silently stalking the tower as though searching for a hiding spot.
I never once thought those creatures capable of anything except a collective mindless hunger.
I approached, lowering myself slowly as I watched the creature. It stopped right before the rainclouds, I couldn't tell if it was avoiding the tower or it just didn't want to get wet.
And then it halted completely, noticing me.
Eyes sprouted along its back.
They stared drectly at me.
It paused for a moment regarding me with caution, before suddenly pulling itself in my direction.
Hands burst from its body as they paddled, pulling the creature across the ground at a terrifying pace.
Then, after a few seconds of destructive speed it slowed to a near halt ahead of me, forming a singular large arm.
Once it got below me the hand pushed.
And the monster flew into the air.
My eyes widened in surprise as I retreated backwards forming new barriers behind me—an invisible path in the air.
But the creature didn't slow, from its sides grew wings, spreading so vast. Bigger than any creature would ever require.
And then it flapped. The wings made an audible boom as they propelled it forward so quickly.
'I could never outrun that, not even if I tripled my speed.'
There was only one way to dodge this.
I instantly dropped the Barrier below my feet, free falling to the ground and causing the creature to miss me by a small margin.
It was huge, and wasn't used to being in the air— not like I had much practice either.
Its body spiralled out of control as it missed uts target, before it could find me I was back on the ground running towards the tower as quickly as my legs would let me on the wet muddy earth.
Boom!! Boom!!
Two large bursts of wind came in quick succession. I shot Barriers in a rush behind me, layering them upon each other.
Instantly, the sound of shattering glass rang from behind me. Barrier after barrier broke as the sounds drew nearer and nearer.
Through it all I didn't look back, Not until the sounds stopped completely, only then did I turn to face the creature.
It floated in the air, its two wings— each larger than its entire body, flapped loudly to keep it suspended in the air.
It regarded me with caution, wary of my Barriers.
Bloodstains on its was the only proof that it had taken damage, yet even that was faint as the creature simply restructured itself.
On its head grew a single horn. Long and pointed like a giant spike rammed into its skull— if it even had one.
Eyes watched me with a murderous gleam before they suddenly receded into its body as a line spread across its face.
It approached slowly, the line continuing spread splitting its body open.
The tear stretched wider and wider as though forming a giant maw, one able to swallow anything I threw at it along with myself.
Inside the gaping maw I saw nothing. No organs or even teeth, just thick muscular flesh steadily expanding.
This creature.... whatever it was looked like an abomination drawn up from the depths of the ocean.
Like a whale opening it's mouth to swallow fish, even though this whale had wings and a horn.
I stood firm as I faced the monstrosity.
Droplets of rain showered upon me from the rainclouds surrounding the tower.
"Lord Forgive me." I whispered to the wind.
I refused to run away from the fight...
Not when the tower was right in front of me.
But, If I was being honest to myself...
I couldn't stop the feeling of excitement i felt in the face of such a repulsive being. The joy of being able to explore my powers to their full extent.
Four Barriers manifested in front of me, their form were invisible but I felt them, like an extension of my own body.
Their forms were small but their edges thin— razor sharp.
I made them spin, causing raindrops to split, falling around in a messy splatter.
The creature approached, unaware of the danger it was in.
I shot them, two tearing vertically at its wings. They struck, each tearing into the creature's flesh like a saw.
Both its wings were lost as my blades tore past the creature.
The wings made a sickening wet splatter as they hit the floor.
A shrill screech left the creature as blood sprayed from its stumps.
Without wasting a seconds breath I shot myself towards the monster as it fell. It's huge body hitting the ground like a crater.
The other two blades shot into the monster, tearing huge gashes in its form.
I stood above it like a cruel butcher, shooting blade after blade as the creature shrieked, writhing in a crater of its blood and flesh.
"Lord forgive me for my sins" I prayed, my hands outstretched before me as I continued to shred the creature.
My prayers didn't even reach my own heart, I felt myself smiling even as the creature's screams sounded gurgled in blood.
Suddenly, the rain around the tower intensified, as streams of water flowed into the crater round the creature.
A loud roar sounded from above the rainclouds and with a sudden loud bang, the clouds parted revealing the sun.
A creature descended from the sky, thick blue scales like the ocean.
It had thick limbs protruding from it's snakelike form. At the end of those thick limbs were claws that shone gold.
I stood, completely frozen as the creature fully revealed itself.
It's face was aged, with thick white fur and large golden horns.
The dying screams of the creature faded to the background as the Dragon opened its maw, roaring to the sky.
I followed the roar with one of my own before bursting into unhinged laughter.
This is it.
The perfect opponent.
The creature curled in the air, defying all logic as it swam in the air as freely as water.
I raised myself so I could stare directly into the creature's massive golden eyes.
This... This is a monster worth fighting.
