Zephyra's POV
The sun was already high by the time I left the house, but the warmth didn't really sink into me. My head was still clouded from everything I'd been trying not to think about, and the ache in my chest was from pretending that everything between us was still simple.
I needed to breathe and to think, or maybe not think at all.
So I did what I figured I should always do whenever it started to feel like I was slipping too far into Astraea's world, I went back to mine.
My plan was simply to go see my mom, the most important person in my world. She was working at the children's academy today, same as always. Cleaning floors, wiping chalkboards, and probably giving way too much attention to the little ones who always clung to her like she was a second mother.
She loved that job more than she let on, even if she came home with backaches and tired eyes.
