"Nothing happened between us!" She hissed as she followed Lorren to a quiet spot away from the knights, her cloak billowing in the wind. "I swear on my life I would never do that to him."
Lorren sighed, pulling her own cloak tighter as she leaned against a boulder. "I believe you. And he probably does too, deep down. But feelings aren't always rational, especially when it comes to pride and possession." The words stung.
"Is that what you think I am to him? Something to be possessed?" Lorren's gaze met hers with unexpected gentleness. "Not in the way you mean. But men like Elynor... they've been raised to believe that love is about claiming and proving devotion."
