Chapter 165 - Chapter 165: A Corps Full Of Simbarnese Soldiers

Victor was excited for the arrival of a new general and his newly summoned soldiers.

All of Victor's newly summoned soldiers were Simbarnese; he did not want to pass up on the opportunity of expanding his dual language-speaking army. With more and more soldiers speaking Simbarnese and Bulgartic, it made the Luxenberg occupation of this continent so much easier.

While Victor was summoning his new soldiers, he came up with an interesting theory. If he were using his army unit summons on a different continent, he would have the option to recruit units that reflected the continent's culture.

Suppose he recruited troops similar to those from China while on the continent of Simbar. In that case, he should be able to recruit Arabian soldiers on the continent of Asharan, since it was a place that replicated the Ottoman Empire.

Expanding on that knowledge, since Kislev was a Russo-Scandinavian land, it made sense for Victor to recruit soldiers who were from the likes of Sweden, Norway and Denmark as well as his usual Russians.

Zandar was a land that shared many similarities to the likes of Italy and Sicily. It was a land that was the birthplace of Syronnea's version of Christianity. The Pope and 5 out of the 6 cardinals reside in that land, while the one who was formerly staying at Osterbon relocated to Hannover.

Bearing all this in mind, Victor could now strategically use his summons to get troops that were native to the land. In any case, this discovery would help Victor. With all his newly summoned being Simbarnese, there was a range of uses for them.

Victor could split the roughly formed 16th Corps and station them as garrison units for newly conquered cities. He could use them in a similar role to what Brigade Commanders Den Yuu and So Sui are doing. Regardless of what they would be used for, Victor was ecstatic to have them.

When the sun rose the next morning, Victor was greeted by his newly summoned corps and its commander, General Kan Ki. The Simbarnese General bowed and put his right fist together with an open left hand. " I, General Kan Ki, swear my undying loyalty to you, my King."

Victor cheerfully greeted the man and got to learn a little about him before introducing him to the other commanders. Unlike his other commanders, Victor virtually knew nothing about his newly summoned commander. There were no records of him in this world, and there certainly were no records of him in Victor's previous world.

The other commanders were polite and introduced themselves to their new comrade. It was a tad weird to begin with. The Simbarnese General's uniform was very different from theirs. It may have been a similar colour scheme to theirs, but the design was clearly different.

During their introductions, the group of commanders began to slowly gain a better understanding of their new peer. General Kan Ki described that his commanding style was centred around ambushes and guerrilla tactics. He was adequate in a pitched battle, but hit-and-run methods were his speciality. This was a welcome addition to the army, as none of the commanders were highly skilled in that area.

The following seven days were dedicated to preparation and integration. Thanks to the new additions of the Luxenberg Army, the people of Hunyuan grew more favourable towards them, even having dozens of militia prisoners asking to serve in the garrison.

General Osten-Sacken was tasked with improving the defences of the city. He began planning to build trenches and artillery positions outside of the walls, bolstering the garrison's firepower.

Field Marshal Schwarzenberg was coordinating with all the other commanders on what the next stages of this campaign would look like. He highlighted the cities of Wuwei and Xiangyang as high-priority targets. Once those two targets were secured, the war would hopefully halt, especially if So Sui and Den Yuu had done a good job rallying the people to the Luxenberg cause.

Wagons were loaded with supplies, and soldiers began to stuff their packs full with food and other essential items. The day of departure was nearing, and everyone needed to be fully prepared for a long campaign that saw them venture further inland.

There was an element of risk in this campaign. The Luxenberg Army would be straying far away from their navy. If by some chance they were cut off from Hunyuan or the city was lost, their chances at returning to Bulgar would be slim.

While the Luxenberg Army was doing its preparations, news had finally reached Xiangyang about the fate of the Gu Army. A eunuch in the Gu court brought forward a message to the king. His hands were trembling, and his head remaining lowered. He had read the message and knew exactly what had happened thanks to an officer who had fled the battlefield in time before the defenders sallied out.

King Gu Tian snatched the message out the eunuch's hands and promptly signalled for him to step back. Gu Tian had been dying to know what had happened at Hunyuan and wheter or not his son had succeeded.

When the King opened the message and read it, his expression darkened. His brow furrowed as his eyes darted across the piece of paper. In the message, it recounted about the effectiveness of the Crown Prince's tactics and that they had had the upper hand in the siege for the first two days, however, the upper hand quickly disappeared.

The officer who had wrote the message, accurately told the chaotic events that had followed. The poisonous and incidenary warheads were described as otherworldly weapons of war and were the harbingers of death. He could not give an accurate description as to how many had died, but he exaggerated that half the army had died because of the rockets, which in fact, was not true.

There was no mention about the defenders sallying out since the officer had fled before hand, but, he did emphasize that the Crown Prince had not been seen since the attack. This news sent King Gu Tian into a spiral of anger and sorrow. His war with the Kingdom of Luxenberg had cost him all 3 of his favourite sons. He still had half a dozen children, but only one of them was favoured, his 10 year old daughter Gu Mei.

All of Gu Tian's courteseans began to panic, their army was defeated again and now there was no force capable enough to stop Victor's advancing army.
