Chapter 339 - Chapter 340 - The First Civil War (VIII)

"Hundreds of suns blossomed as they flowered in the sky; it was a beautiful scene, but behind this beauty lay the horror of death." Thoughts of a veteran observing the explosions in the planet's orbit.

------------

Alpharius did not answer and looked at Aegon, awaiting his orders. As the other Primarchs accompanied the imperial princes and princesses, he was only there to observe and protect the safety of Prince Aegon.

All decisions were Aegon's and entirely his; Alpharius himself could not intervene, only observe and nothing more.

"Establish contact with Sagittarius Secundus." Aegon ordered in a calm tone, suppressing the anger about to explode in his chest. His purple eyes became calm, and he had a look similar to Aenar's, even if only slightly.

This made Alpharius nod his head; at least Aegon had some resemblance to the God-Emperor, although he still thought the boy was not suitable to be Emperor. Easily irritable, uncontrollable, and with a huge ego, this was Aegon in the eyes of the Primarch of the XX Legion.

In comparison, Alysanne was the perfect heir in the eyes of Alpharius and all the Primarchs; the Princess Regent had earned the respect of all the Primarchs, and it wasn't just because of her identity.

"Gloriana-Class Battleship, Alpha, under the command of Primarch Alpharius and Imperial Prince Aegon of House Targaryen. Sagittarius Secundus, are you reading? Over. We will be landing on the planet, Over." The controller spoke in a calm, cold, and mechanical tone.

"Sagittarius Secundus, are you reading? Over."

"Sagittarius Secundus, are you reading? Over."

"Sagittarius Secundus, are you reading? Over."

Only static silence followed on the communication line; however, just as Aegon was about to speak, a male voice sounded.

"This is Sagittarius Secundus, receiving. Over."

"Under orders from the Governor of the Sagittarius III System, Count Barlow, the entire planet is under martial law. I repeat: martial law is in effect. Over."

"Gloriana-Class Battleship Alpha, your approach has been denied. Redirect course to the Omega II System. Terminated."

Aegon's face turned cold; he pressed the button personally and spoke in an unquestionable tone.

"I am Imperial Prince Aegon of House Targaryen, and this was not a request, but an order that you must accept. If you refuse, you will be targeted by the Alpha Astartes Legion."

There was a static silence on the communication line before a different male voice spoke again.

"Sagittarius Secundus to Gloriana-Class Battleship. Unauthorized approach will be countered by the planetary defense system. Terminated."

"I repeat: Gloriana-Class Battleship Alpha, your approach has been denied. Redirect course to the Omega II System. Terminated."

Looking ahead, where the yellowish planet floated in space, the cameras of the Gloriana-Class Battleship zoomed in on the planet's surface, where gigantic cannons were already pointed at them!

"We will bombard the planet's surface. Warn the churches to take refuge in the bunkers." Aegon gave the order in a cold and chilling tone. Even if there were innocent people on the planet, he already knew there was no chance for the other side to surrender peacefully.

As for the Neutron Warheads, Aegon was not worried; this was a Gloriana-Class Battleship, the pinnacle of human engineering. The energy shields alone could stand firm against an explosion as powerful as a neutron blast.

The one who should be worried was Count Barlow; the man would die on the planet he tried to conquer.

Alpharius looked at Aegon with a touch more appreciation. This level of cold choice was quite suitable for a general on the battlefield. The Primarch even thought he would recommend Aegon to the Emperor for a position within his Legion. He needed this kind of cold and indifferent talent, especially for destroying and stealing the technologies of other civilizations.

With Aegon's orders, the entire imperial fleet of the twentieth legion of humanity flew over the Planet of Sagittarius Secundus. Hundreds of imperial ships of different sizes accompanied the Gloriana-Class Battleship.

Obviously, the planetary defense system against foreign threats did not stand still. The gigantic cannons, which were already pointed at the Alpha Legion Fleet, fired instantly.

BOOMMMMM!!! BOOMMMMM!!! BOOMMMMM!!! BOOMMMMM!!! BOOMMMMM!!! BOOMMMMM!!!

With the thunderous sound of the shots, warheads the size of cars advanced in a circular motion towards the sky. From the ground, the inhabitants were shocked to see hundreds of white trails in the sky.

The most shocking thing was seeing the hundreds of enormous imperial ships flying over the sky of Sagittarius Secundus. Some army veterans who were not from the Astartes Legions drastically changed their expressions and quickly ran with their families to the security bunkers, which everyone on the planet possessed in case of invasion.

"Daddy, why are we running?" A little blonde girl asked confusedly while quickly heading back to the house in her father's arms.

"When everything is over, go to the Church and tell the priests and priestesses what happened." The man did not answer and spoke in a solemn tone. He kissed his daughter's forehead and picked up his old second-generation plasma rifle.

"And you, Daddy?" The girl asked in a frightened tone, looking at her father with blue eyes full of tears.

"Daddy is going to fight for the God-Emperor again, to arrest the bandits who are rebelling against our beautiful government." The man spoke with a smile; he knew he would die in the future, but he knew the Church would welcome his daughter, so he wasn't afraid of what would happen in the future.

"Daddy—" Before the girl could say anything, the Bunker door was closed without any hesitation.

The man checked the plasma rifle, and seeing that it was in good condition, he did not hesitate to leave the house, only to see a group of old men holding the same rifle as him. All ready to die without any hesitation for the Imperium.

"It seems Carlos's son is not a coward." One of the old men spoke with a cigar between his lips.

"Of course, he wouldn't be a coward; Carlos was always the craziest of us, how could his son be any different!" Another old man spoke with an excited smile on his face; even old and with one arm missing, the man seemed excited to die in battle.

"For the Emperor!!!" The old men shouted loudly and began to march in formation towards the Governor's Palace. When the Planetary Defense System attacked the Astartes Legion, they already knew that the planet's government had rebelled against the Central Government of the Sacred Planet of Terra.

Suddenly, the alarm sounded in the city, but it wasn't just in that city, but across the entire planet. People began to hide in the Bunkers while veterans and young people who had the passion to fight for their planet went out into the streets and began to kill any official.

If there was one thing Aenar had to be satisfied with, it was the power that faith had over human beings. The Cult of the God-Emperor of Humanity, which had the role of ensuring the cohesion of the human race, did so masterfully.

These men, even though they were about to die, knew they would enter the Heaven Realm of the God-Emperor of Humanity. Not only that, their names would be written in the Book of Honor, where soldiers who died for the Imperium were honored.

Of course, it wasn't just an honor; the families of these soldiers received education, housing, and if they didn't want to serve in the army, they could choose a job after attending a prestigious university.

One of the reasons people loved Aenar and House Targaryen was that the benefits they gave were something most common people didn't receive, so the armament culture in the Imperium was predominant. These families were proud to train their children as military personnel.

Count Barlow, thirty years old, looked like a handsome man with brown hair and green eyes. As an important member of the True Humans, he knew better than anyone that he was dead if reinforcements didn't arrive.

But he wasn't afraid.

Barlow looked at the red button in his hand with a cold look and calmed down. He wanted to see if the Prince could withstand the infamy of destroying the population of billions of human lives on Sagittarius Secundus. He could even imagine the news reaching the entire human population in the Imperium. Even news of this magnitude could shake the foundations of House Targaryen over the Imperium of Humanity.

"Are the energy shields working correctly?" Barlow asked a middle-aged man, who was the butler and also the doctor of House Barlow.

"Yes, but we are being attacked by retired veterans." The Butler spoke in a calm tone, but his concern was evident in his expression.

Barlow couldn't help but feel upset hearing this. He had helped these veterans his entire life, giving them benefits to train their own soldiers, and now these were the people who were the first to betray him.

"Kill all—" When Barlow was about to finish speaking, hundreds of gigantic suns blossomed above the planet. The Neutron Warheads that had been launched against the Twentieth Legion of Astartes Imperium had hit their target squarely.

Looking out the window, the Count's handsome face lit up under the blinding light in the sky. There was a cruel smile on his lips. He asked himself if the Emperor would feel the pain of losing a son.

Even though the Gloriana-Class Battleships were famous in the Imperium, seeing one personally was a completely different thing, so most nobles thought they were just rumors exaggerated by the soldiers, which is why Barlow was never worried about the Alpha Legion's approach.

However, his expression changed drastically as he saw hundreds of imperial ships descending from the explosions relatively intact. Most of the Imperial Ships had severe damage, but the Gloriana-Class Battleship was simply untouched.

There wasn't a scratch on the gigantic twenty-seven-kilometer-long imperial ship; it looked like a gigantic, threatening sword descending from the sky.

"Focus all shields on my castle!!!" Barlow shouted, and the Butler was quick to carry out the order.

When the Count's voice sounded, rumbles were heard in the sky; a sharp, penetrating hum sounded over a large part of the planet's surface.

Looking out the window, Barlow watched as hundreds of enormous missiles were fired against the planet's surface.

"The Prince is crazy." Barlow murmured in a weak and pale tone. He knew that even though most of the population was in Bunkers, there were still millions of lives on the planet's surface.

Unfortunately, Count Barlow had never heard that to face a madman, one needs to be even madder!

With a blinding flash, the Neutron Warheads blossomed on the planet's surface in an instant!

The shockwave swept away everything in its path; entire cities were wiped off the map in a mere instant. After the shockwave came the heatwave, which evaporated everything to ashes!

Hundreds of orange suns were what the Count saw before the shockwave hit his castle. The blue shields withstood the result of the attacks, but gigantic holes in the studies showed that everything was unusable.

"Count, the planetary defense system has been destroyed, and all ten thousand soldiers have been killed." The butler spoke in a trembling tone and a pale face.

Count Barlow took a deep breath upon hearing that the entire foundation House Barlow had built for thousands of years had disappeared in a second.

"Damn Prince, you won't escape this planet alive." Showing a crazy color in his eyes, the Count was completely furious at that moment.

He didn't care if the fault for everything that was happening was only his and no one else's, but a man full of anger didn't care about the reason, only about the result of his revenge.
