Ten minutes later, they were in the Major's office, with Commander Green and the Prime Minister on Midshipman Fenix' communicator, for the debriefing. "Madam Ambassador – if possible, can you tell us what your mission was?" "I was tasked to initiate peace talks. As I mentioned before – it did not go well. " "Madam Ambassador, if I could – did you notice anything funny about those people you talked with? Did they look like their eyes were glazed over?" Hermione asked. "Now that I think about it, its possible." The Ambassador replied. "Wizards are able to influence or totally take over another person's thoughts. One of the signs of this kind of 'possession' is the glazed eyes." Hermione continued. "It's possible the people you met with were Imperiused to resist your offers. The troops might have been Imperiused as well." "Hermione – how do you know so much about the Imperius? Typically only Aurors have the kind of knowledge you exhibit" asked Madam Bones. "Fourth Year, Madam Bones. The Defense against the Dark Arts instructor, an imposter, Imperiused the whole class. Only Harry Potter was able to resist it." Hermione responded.
"It may not have anything to do with the talks" Evan interjected. "Explain" the Major demanded. "According to the wizard we caught, Voldemort sent some guy, Dolohov, to the vampires – he met with a Prince Rachmanov. Voldemort wanted the Ambassador as a prisoner." Evan chipped in. "When did he say all that" asked the Ambassador. "We were there when you questioned the prisoner – this is the first I heard of this" exclaimed the Ambassador. "While I was questioning him. You didn't hear him? He didn't say any of that out loud?" asked Evan. Madam Bones then asked "When you heard this other information, were you looking into his eyes? Did you hear words or see images?" "I was focused on him. Intently." Responded Evan. "Its possible you experienced something like ligilimens – it's a spell used to read snippets of information from peoples minds" "But I'm not magical" said Evan. "But you have done other magical-like stuff" Madam Bones said. "It's possible, I suppose. Some of my training is …. Esoteric." Evan responded.
The Ambassador and Hermione burst into chuckles at that. Evan turned his head, looking at Hermione and the Ambassador. "So, who is Dolohov to Voldemort? Why do they want to capture or kill the Ambassador?" Evan asked Madam Bones. "Dolohov is one of Voldemort's remaining right-hand men. I don't have an answer for the second question. Ambassador?" "I don't really know" she replied. "Perhaps a family relation?" Hermione threw out. "That…..that might be possible" said Madam Bones. "What are some of the names of your immediate family" (A/N – made up some names here) "Well, there is Karic, Juric, Rudic, …Vesic….I can't remember any others at this time." The Ambassador responded. "Madam Ambassador, I would like to say some names to see if you have any …recognition of them, would that be OK?" asked Hermione. "Yes, that would be OK" replied the Ambassador.
Hermione began: "Dumbledore….Fudge….Malfoy….Rosier….Black….Greengrass….Sturgis….Umbridge….LeStrange… Weasley…..Dursley….Yaxley…Lovegood….Bones….Crouch….Lupin…..Longbottom…..Gaunt….Peverell…. Snape….Moody…Potter…Riddle…Flint…Burke…Gamp….Grainger…Macmillan…Prewett…Evans…" "Evans" the Ambassador jumped in. "Evans? Who are the Evans to you?" asked Hermione. "I had a distant cousin in England many years ago. She had two daughters. My cousin was apparently killed; one daughter apparently died in a car crash. I am not sure about the other." Said the Ambassador. "And do you know if they have or had any children?" asked Hermione, in a whisper. "No – I lost contact with them when my cousin died. Over time I heard about one of her daughters." Responded the Ambassador.
"Lily Evans" whispered Hermione. Madam Bones and the Major were looking at Hermione in near shock. "Lily Evans married James Potter. They were both magical. They had a son – Harry Potter. Both James and Lilly Potter were killed by Voldemort on October 31, 1991." Tears began tracking down Hermione's face. Evan hugged her from behind, brushing her hair to the side. "He tried to kill baby Harry, but for some unknown reason, the curse rebounded and destroyed Voldemort's body. Dumbledore stashed baby Harry at his non-magical aunt's house, Petunia Dursley and her ….whale of a husband, Vernon." She whispered with venom. "He grew up there, well…I wouldn't really call it growing up – they had him sleep in a broom closet under the stairs for 10 years. They starved him and beat him; they kept him friendless, all with the Headmaster's knowledge. Until his 11th birthday, when he received a letter in the mail from Hogwarts School of Magic and Wizardry" she said flowerily, twirling her hands in the air; tears like little rivulets dripping from her cheeks. Hermione stopped a second to wipe her nose. "For four years, Harry studied magic. He encountered and defeated Voldemort's spirit two times: once in first year, and once in second year" she said quietly. "In the Fourth year, Harry was entered against his will and against the rules in a tournament meant for 6th and 7th years; a tournament between three magical schools: Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmestag. Harry was forced to compete by the Ministry of Magic and the Headmaster. He was the youngest by three years, having only three years of magical training. Harry actually finished and won the tournament, but at the end of the last task he was portkeyed away by Voldemort's minions. They forcefully used Harry's blood to bring Voldemort's spirit back into a new magical body. Harry shortly dueled Voldemort and managed to escape, bringing the body of his friend, Cedric back with him. The Minister of Magic, Fudge, smeared Harry's name and reputation in the newspaper saying he was a delusional attention seeking spoiled boy. Nobody stopped him. Nobody protected Harry." Hermione took another moment to wipe her nose and dry her eyes. "Someone….Someone sent Dementors – they are like soul sucking creatures – to Harry's house. When he magically defended himself and his cousin, Dudley, Harry was charged with performing magic in front of non-magicals. They were his family! They put him on trial! They railroaded him into a guilty verdict, bound his magic and wiped his mind of all things magic! They gave him some unknown identity, and released him someplace in England." She finished softly.
"And how do you know all these details" asked Madam Bones. "Because I was his first friend – we met on the train first year. He was….he wanted….we were….we were going to be…more after the trial." Hermione responded quietly. "I was with him nearly every minute of every day that he was in the magical world. I saw every bruise he suffered when he returned; I saw how emaciated he was at the beginning of every school year. He wouldn't eat much the first few weeks of school because he just couldn't digest it. "That, and how they treated me and other muggle-borns was why I left England, Madam Bones. Between the Headmasters polices, the MOMs laws and pure-blood leanings, the medias unregulated publishing, there is no wonder why half-bloods and, I prefer to call them 'new bloods' are leaving the UK in troves." Turning to the Ambassador, Hermione concluded "Madam Ambassador – unless I am mistaken, you are likely one of the last, if not the last, living relative of Harry Potter, fallen hero of England's wizardry."
