"Is this why you didn't want to marry me?" Edward's eyes reflected the heartbreak I felt as he lifted my hand so he could press the back of it to his cheek then pressed kisses to my wrist where I could feel my pulse beat like a jackhammer. "You were worried that I would leave you one day."
"I didn't want to marry you because you lied to me," I stressed.
"I only did it to protect you," he frowned, "I realize now it was wrong but when you love someone so much you'll do anything to ensure that they are safe and happy. I wanted to make you happy just for a moment before I told you everything."
"But it hurt," I clenched my jaw to prevent tears from gathering in my eyes, "It hurt because it felt like you thought I wasn't capable of taking care of my own affairs. You treated me the same way Dad would."
