He might not actually find it at first, and he breaks down. Might even start crying. "Did something get in my eye?" But just as he thinks the hope is lost, he stumbles upon it, and laughs as if he lost his mind.
It won't be the ring he eventually proposes with, though. Damien finds it sometime after the marriage, when moving houses. He asks Lane about it, and Lane at first wants to avoid the topic, but then, not wanting Damien to misunderstand, he finally confesses everything - well, at least the part that he bought it wanting to propose back before the fall of the Capital. Damien will be moved by it - by the fact that Lane was already thinking of it so long ago, and even more so because he still has the ring, despite everything that happened/
Damien actually also bought a ring for Lane - with calming properties, as he knew Lane was using his abilities without authorization. It was the most expensive thing he'd ever bought - because it was for Lane, after all!
