Third Person POV
Skellige.
...
...
Geralt and Mousesack were in the middle of a forest in a more eastern corner of Ard Skellige.
Despite being in a forest, they were in an area with a large pasture and some cabins, with a large tree and a hill.
This was the territory of the druids.
Nature's magic was more practiced here in Skellige than the magic of a traditional sorcerer from the continent; druids there were rarer to find.
"What is this sudden meeting, Mousesack? I thought you would be more interested in the marriage between those two children we heard about," murmured an old man among the group of druids Mousesack had summoned.
This man had never had patience for such things, but at the same time, he also knew the importance and what the union of Princess Ciri and that Madara Uchiha meant.
"I know... Some problems are happening and we have to solve them." Mousesack commented.
"Do you really think saying their names wouldn't draw attention? There are several sorcerers getting in contact with important people on the continent. The marriage is no longer even remotely secret." Another druid said, mocking.
"That was already expected since you announced it publicly. You should have kept it hidden..." A third commented.
"It's not that simple. It would be public anyway. There is no way to hide it, even if we hadn't announced it to the whole island. And their plan was to make it clear to all the kingdoms that the royal blood of Cintra still lived." Mousesack said, pausing.
"Still, some problems are appearing. A threat is upon us... an old enemy who has been hiding is acting from the shadows," Mousesack began.
Geralt had been silent the whole time. He, in general, wasn't much of a talker; he just wanted to see how they would deal with the druids.
"I just arrived from Undvik. I learned that the two children were there," another said. "They made their presence quite marked in one of the cities, not to mention that they were seen climbing the Giant's Mountain. I hope they don't cause trouble. However, there's a boy who is simply destroying all the monsters matching Madara Uchiha's description, taking all the mission contracts without charging any of the rewards. He's spreading across the entire island doing these missions. The people are quite confused and surprised, while the boy simply appears and disappears completely once all the missions are done in each of the villages."
Another druid scratched his head. "He was in Undvik when I heard about some interesting things happening in the city. Upon arriving there, he heard about the events involving a girl who defeated any grown man in the arena, which was surprising to everyone... until the boy accompanying her, who possibly seemed to be her husband, entered the arena and both fought each other. A fight that no one could believe had been possible until they saw the two of them."
"Well, that is exactly what Madara would do..." Mousesack smiled, but then returned his serious gaze to everyone.
"Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the two's adventures in Undvik. We're after a sorcerer, Vilgefortz. I need you to seek any contact, and this conversation must not leave here. That's why I called only a few of you. We'll be searching for him in silence, we want information. We're trying to locate this man, and you know him as Oxford."
Mousesack had not called anyone whom Eliene had said was a spy. The druids nodded, ready to proceed, and so the meeting continued.
At the same time, Yennefer was entering a place in the main city below the castle, making her way through alleys until she found a house, guided by a raven. It was the same raven Madara had used to find Eliene, and which he had lent to Yennefer so she could go directly to someone.
There was a small house in the middle of the alley Yennefer had entered. She approached the door and knocked on the wood a few times.
Someone began to approach, opening it. When the woman appeared, her unpleasant gaze fell directly on Yennefer.
"What are you doing here, Yennefer? How did you find my house?" she said.
It was Fringilla Vigo. The same sorceress who had been at the banquet the night before.
"You know you couldn't hide after being so brazen as you were yesterday at the banquet," Yennefer replied, making a face.
"What do you want?" Fringilla asked again.
"We need to talk in private," Yennefer suggested.
"We have nothing to talk about," Fringilla retorted.
"Well, your life may be at risk, Fringilla. I might be the only one who can help you, because... if he finds out you're involved in this, not even I will be able to save you," Yennefer stated.
"You're talking about the boy?" Yennefer saw a glint of fear in the woman. She was afraid of Madara, ever since he had stared at her at the banquet when approaching their table.
Madara clearly did not like sorceresses, and Yennefer knew this very well — not that she could blame him much for it.
"What is this about? I haven't done anything," the woman defended herself, seeing Yennefer's silence.
"That depends... That's why we want to talk. Fringilla, if you tell the truth, I can help you. But if you're plotting something against Madara and helping his enemies... well, I can't do anything for you. I'd say you should go look for unknown lands. He's the one who found you so easily, I just followed his instructions. He may not have found a portal or a rift to another world yet, but he can find people easily anywhere..." Yennefer said.
Fringilla stayed silent for a while before, despite her wounded pride, nodding.
"All right. Come in, Yennefer." She moved aside, opening the way for Yennefer to enter the house. Then, she closed the door.
"What's the problem?" Fringilla asked.
They reached the living room. There was a sofa and a low table. Fringilla sat on one side, while Yennefer settled down gracefully.
"We're after Vilgefortz," Yennefer said directly, making Fringilla frown.
"If you're involved with him against Madara and Ciri, well... you shouldn't only be worried about them, but also about my fury," Yennefer growled, making Fringilla grimace.
"I'm not getting involved with that sorcerer, unless you mean something else..." Fringilla said cautiously, not hiding that there was something more there.
"No? You don't know anything?" Yennefer narrowed her eyes, while Fringilla pressed her lips together.
"We know a few things," she confessed.
"We? What exactly is going on? You and who?" Yennefer asked.
"We know there's going to be an attack at Madara's wedding. According to some contacts we have on the continent, I and other sorceresses are trying to get closer to the boy, so we believe it's a good opportunity to help him at this wedding," Fringilla admitted, while Yennefer was speechless for a few seconds before narrowing her eyes.
"Let me guess... who's involved in this? Coral? She certainly wouldn't miss the opportunity," Yennefer mocked.
"You couldn't be too surprised about that. Coral is interested in the boy, just like most sorceresses." Fringilla said.
"And you? But you never seem to be at ease now, do you?" Yennefer observed.
"I admit I underestimated him. When I saw him yesterday, I knew he couldn't be controlled. We, sisters, are forming a group called the Lodge of Sorceresses. We propose to unite women more powerful in magic to control all the kingdoms of the North. Sounds silly, doesn't it? That's our place, to rule everything from behind the scenes, and we would need the boy for that. His marriage to the girl is perfect for us to control the North..." she said, while Yennefer grew more and more furious at the thought that these sorceresses could really treat Madara and Ciri like that.
"However, when I saw him yesterday, I knew we couldn't control him. He did nothing, but just his presence was already overwhelming. I was there that day, in the war, I saw that blue monster appear... and even if it didn't matter much to him, the power of that boy is something no one can control. No one can stop him."
Yennefer listened to the woman in silence.
"Well... how many people know about the wedding?" Yennefer asked.
"Practically all the most powerful on the continent are already aware, be they kings, leaders of organizations, and sorcerers or sorceresses... I passed information to our sisters, but many people passed information to their spies. I doubt my secrecy is intact, but since the wedding will be the day after tomorrow, there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. Despite that, Vilgefortz seems to be plotting something, because, from what one of the contacts told us... we just don't know what, except that it will be in the middle of the wedding," Fringilla admitted.
"I see. Then I'll have to investigate this," Yennefer replied. "And I'll give you a tip." She began to rise; she didn't have much time to waste on trivial words. She believed Fringilla's words and knew when she was lying.
"Don't try to get close to him to use him. Take it from me, you'll only regret it. Madara is not something you can manipulate or use as a tool. That will only bring destruction to all of you. I hope that's very clear," Yennefer warned.
"And tell Coral to stop looking for him. He's not someone she should be messing with."
Yennefer knew Madara didn't like Coral one bit. She herself had avoided meeting her several times just to not have to see her. Knowing Coral, it wasn't hard to understand why: that woman had already slept with Geralt and expected to do the same with Madara to gain advantages.
It was repugnant.
Dryly, Yennefer began to leave. "Thanks for the information. Just... don't try to interfere with their wedding. I'll find out where the attack is coming from, since you don't know." And without waiting for an answer, Yennefer left.
"Of all of us sorceresses," Fringilla said, making Yennefer stop at the door, "you seem to be the only one the boy trusts. How did you do that? And why are you with him? You don't seem to be seeking the powers he can provide." Fringilla still kept her attention on Yennefer, with a curious look.
Yennefer remembered Ciri's outburst of possession before the Battle of Sodden broke out, when the girl had said words about how to deal with Madara. About never having him as a tool to seek power.
"I once sought Madara for the powers he could give me, I admit. But I found out that was the wrong path. I discovered that, in the end, what I wanted was a child... but I ended up getting a house full of children..." Yennefer said with a faint smile.
Fringilla raised an eyebrow. "You consider him your son?"
Fringilla seemed not to believe she was saying that herself, but she nodded. "Yes. I know he doesn't consider me his mother, but I try to treat him like a son."
Yennefer then left the house behind. She opened a portal in the alley and stepped through, reappearing in the castle. She knew Mousesack kept something important in his laboratory, and she was going after that mask.
Thus, she entered the druid's quarters again, but he had no idea what she was about to do; otherwise, he would have tried to stop her.
Yennefer entered the place looking for the mask, wherever it might be.
