Chapter 29: Illya's Bad Day
______________________________________________________________________
- Silas -
I looked at her, stunned at the reveal.
She had told me that she was adopted into the Matou family but we had thought that she was an orphan before that. She didn't feel comfortable talking about her past and none of us pushed her any further either, due to obvious reasons.
To think that her birth family was still alive.
But if they were alive then, how did she end up with the Matou family?
Or was it that only her sister was alive and they were adopted by two different families?
So many questions and yet, from the looks of it, Sakura wasn't in a state to answer anything.
"Umm, Silas. What happened? And, who was that girl who just ran away?" I heard Saitama's voice, who had just been awakened by Sakura's outburst.
"That…" I was about to say something but then I remembered a detail which had slipped my mind due to Sakura's outburst. "Actually, Saitama, could you go and call that girl back quickly?" I asked.
Both Saitama and Sakura looked at me in confusion.
"That… she had dirt all over her clothes and even some scratches on her body. It looked like she fell down or maybe had some kind of accident. Just check on her and see if she is fine. Don't force her if she doesn't want to."
I noticed Sakura's eyes widened a bit at the accident part and she didn't question anything.
Saitama nodded and quickly headed out and I took the time to take care of Sakura until she calmed down.
I didn't want to leave her alone at this time.
A while later, Shuna returned and saw us like that and took Sakura back to her room, offering to stay with her tonight as neither Lavy nor Orihime, Sakura's current roommates, were present.
Sakura wanted to wait for her sister, perhaps feeling guilty for snapping at her but I reassured her that I will go and talk to her.
Maybe Saitama could use a hand with the search too?
With this thought, I left the Restaurant too.
- Saitama -
He looked around, not catching a glimpse of the girl.
"Just where did she go?"
He went ahead but it was already late at night and couldn't see anyone.
On going further, he heard a voice, a soft groan, as if someone was in pain.
Looking around, he found that it was coming from one of the alleys between the buildings. He walked forward and saw a person, wearing a hooded bluish-purple robe.
"Umm, are you okay there?" He asked, unsurely.
The person looked up and he could see that it was a woman.
"Are you hurt somewhere? Need any help?"
"Help? Yes… I do." She whispered softly.
He stepped forward to help her rise when he heard a voice.
"Oh my, today is so interesting. First I encountered a fight and then another servant. It was getting boring at first but now it's starting to feel more like the Holy Grail War. I was pissed off at that Tohsaka girl escaping somewhere but looks like I can finally take care of one servant at least. Berserker, get to work."
He turned to face the person speaking and saw it was a little girl with white hair and red eyes.
Why was she out so late at night? Was she lost?
"Oi, little girl. Where are your parents? Are you lost? Do you want me to help you find your parents?"
The girl however froze in place and then she started shouting. "How dare you!"
"Eh? What happened?" Saitama was confused. Beside him, the woman in purple hood moved too so he turned towards her. "Do you know her? Who is this sassy lost child?"
"Bastard!" The kid shouted.
"Oi, who taught you words like that? Kids shouldn't cuss." He scolded her.
"Enough. Berserker, take them down. Especially that baldy. Kill him slowly."
As she shouted, a large man appeared beside her. He was wearing a metallic… skirt?
The woman beside him just looked at the giant, looking afraid.
"We have to run. We cannot fight him. Not like this." The woman quickly said to him.
"Eh? Run, why? And who is that weirdo roaming around half naked? That's public indecency, ya know?"
The weirdo apparently heard him and roared, jumping towards him, slamming down with both his hands.
- Medea -
She closed her eyes at the sight of the Berserker servant jumping towards them, accepting their death.
This Holy Grail War was… terrible.
First she got summoned by a fool who was mad at her for being good at what she was summoned for.
Obviously she took him out, the only satisfying moment in the whole event.
But her powers were waning without a master to provide her with energy, leaving her unable to even flee from an enemy. Although, it's not like she could escape from the monstrosity in front of her.
Anyone else might not recognise the once mighty hero of legends but there was no way she wouldn't know who he was. Heracles was beyond her strength even when he was alive, let alone when he is bolstered by his legends.
In the end, she could only close her eyes and accept her fate.
She waited for the final blow to come…
And she waited… and waited.
However the blow never came.
She opened her eyes and saw a scene which made her doubt her life.
That man… the same bald man… was holding Berserker Heracles' hands with a single hand, unmoving.
What? What exactly was happening?
A thought emerged in her mind for a moment… was this… some kind of illusion?
Did she get attacked by some servant versed in illusion magic?
The thought however was discarded a moment later when Berserker roared, the shockwave, making her back down from the sheer force of it alone.
"Oi, stop being noisy." The bald man however looked completely unfazed. He effortlessly pushed Heracles back and then, almost invisible to normal eyes… he punched.
Medea felt her blood run cold at the sight of the unassuming punch and she was right as the punch shattered Heracles' body into pieces, sending him flying towards the forest in the distance.
"Berserker!" The white haired girl shouted and quickly ran towards the forest, chasing after the shattered remains of Heracles' body.
"Don't go around attacking random people, you weirdo." The man murmured, wiping off his hands. "Oh and wear full clothes next time."
"Who… who are you?" She couldn't help but ask.
The man looked back at her with a smile, the light on the street shining off his bald head. "Me? I'm Saitama, a Hero."
Medea watched with stunned eyes at his figure and before she knew it, her hands had grasped the man's hands, her magic flowing as command seals appeared on his hand.
Perhaps, this Holy Grail War… wasn't so terrible after all?
- Silas -
I looked around the place and couldn't find anyone around.
Obviously, she had left several minutes ago.
Thinking of something, I snapped my fingers, making a jujutsu barrier around the place which kept normal non-magical humans away and released my wings, taking to the skies, trying to find her.
I spotted her figure in the distance, several streets away and flew directly towards her but landed a bit before so as to not freak her before quickly following on foot.
"Wait!" I shouted as I finally saw her in front of me.
She turned towards me, frowning as she recognised me. "What are you doing here, following me?" She asked, warily.
"I…" I let out a sigh before speaking up again. "I saw that your clothes were dirty and that you were injured so I thought that you might have been in some accident… so… I came to check."
"Why?"
"Umm… You are Sakura's sister… I didn't know she had any siblings, well not blood related at least."
"Then you don't know her that well." She said, pointedly.
"Well… I guess that's true. I really don't know much about her past." I accepted. "But that doesn't matter to me. She is a dear friend of mine and that's all that matters to me." I replied honestly.
Her eyes just twitched at my words.
"Damn playboy! Stop acting so cheesy. That's not going to work on me." She snapped.
I resisted my lips from twitching, not knowing how to explain.
She however quieted down, an awkward silence descended between us again.
I was trying to think how to break the silence when she spoke up.
"Sakura."
"Hmm?"
"Sakura… she… what happened to her?" The girl asked, in a low voice.
"That…" I looked at her, trying to assess if she really had no clue.
On one hand, they were in the same town, went to the same school and yet she hadn't spoken to her sister for so long and on the other hand… the worry in her voice… that was hard to fake.
"Her adopted family… they… did some very… horrible things to her." Was all I could say. Although, on second thought, that was a severe understatement of their actions.
The girl's eyes widened at this.
"W-what did they do?"
"This… they…" I was about to say something when something strange happened.
All of a sudden, something fell from the sky, crashing into the road in between us, creating a small crater.
When the dust cleared, I saw the body… or at least half a body in the crater.
Yes.
The body was missing the upper half. And yet, instead of bleeding, it was strangely pulsing with a strange energy and… healing.
"What the hell is that?" I asked, pointing towards the crater.
"Berserker! Dammit." The girl, Sakura's sister, looked panicked as she pointed towards the half body and to my surprise, balls of energy gathered in front of her hands and she fired away, blasting at the body or at least whatever remained of it.
Oi oi, what the hell?!
As I was trying to figure if I was the insane one here for thinking this was weird or it really was weird, a white haired girl rushed out of the forest.
"Tohsaka!" She screamed at Sakura's sister as holographic swords appeared around her and shot towards her.
"Einzbern! Tch…" Sakura's sister clicked her tongue as she dodged the attack and came in front of me, pointing her finger towards the girl in a shooting position.
I instinctively grabbed her hand. "Oi, what the hell. Are you trying to kill that kid?" I asked, stunned.
"She's not a kid!"
"I am not a kid!"
Both the girls shouted at the same time.
"What?"
"She is an artificial human, a homunculus. She might look young but she isn't." Tohsaka explained.
A what?!
I looked at the girl in surprise.
While this was happening, the body… or whatever it was had healed, recovering almost its entire body with only bits of its head left.
My attention however was however distracted by the regenerating body which was now standing up and in that moment, I sensed something coming towards me.
I was about to freeze everything in that general direction when Tohsaka suddenly threw something… a gemstone which blocked the attack in my direction.
I looked at her in surprise. Was she trying to protect me?
I was about to say something when the littl… not little girl, spoke.
"A non-mage caught in the war. Are you protecting him, Tohsaka? Are you not going to follow mage law?"
"No! He is my target. If someone is going to kill him, it's me." She shouted back.
…
…
…
…
Yeah, I take back my words.
"I am not interested in your love life, Tohsaka. I am already pissed tonight after meeting that… monster. I already gave you a chance to escape once but since you have come in front of me again, I won't waste this chance anymore. Berserker, take them down."
Man… this girl isn't cute at all.
But her words did send Tohsaka into a state of panic.
She stepped back and whispered to me.
"Run. I will distract him while you run back to your place."
"I can help." I offered.
"No! Who do you think you are? You will only be a hindrance. Get out of here! Who knows, maybe if she chooses to chase you, it will distract her from me."
…
This girl.
We however didn't have much time to think as the hulking menace had jumped towards us.
Tohsaka kicked me in a different direction, using the recoil to jump away, dodging the attack from the giant monster.
"Run!" She shouted while the monster also focused on her instead of me.
Seriously…
"Why do I get a feeling that I am being underestimated here?"
I am an Archdaemon, ya know? Those things are supposed to be scary.
