Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: The Bounty Hunters

They drank and celebrated having a ship, so part of the supplies were used for a small party that lasted a few hours.

"I think we'll have to start cleaning up this mess," Oliver said.

"You're right," Nami said.

While they were cleaning everything, there was something Oliver wanted to check.

He went to the hatch under the mast that should lead to the men's quarters, so when he opened it, he saw that it did indeed lead to the men's bedroom, which was a small room with many hammocks, a cabinet, some barrels, and a few sofas.

'And this is where Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper slept?' Oliver wondered.

He was going to check where the women's quarters were to compare them, but Luffy suddenly started yelling.

"I did it! Here's our flag!!" he shouted proudly while holding up a strange drawing. "Hahaha! It really took me a lot of effort!"

"That's… our flag?" Zoro asked, confused.

"So basically… he has no artistic talent," Usopp said, staring at Luffy's strange drawing.

"Actually, I'm not so sure… it could be a surrealist symbol," Nami said, trying to understand the drawing.

"Hey, at least he tried," Oliver said, closing the hatch.

"A pirate flag has to be the symbol of death… Well, I guess you could call it horrible," Zoro said, trying to see the positive side.

"So… what do you think?" Luffy asked with a smile.

"It sucks, Luffy! I'll draw it!!" Usopp said.

Usopp started drawing the flag, but this time it had his own face on it.

"Don't change it," Luffy and Zoro said before smacking Usopp on the head.

Then Usopp made it again, but this time using Luffy's design, and it turned out very well.

"Yes! It's really good!" Nami said happily as she looked at the design.

"Since I was a kid, I made art on people's walls. Art and I are one," Usopp said as his nose seemed to grow.

"Alright, now we just need to paint the sail," Luffy said.

Everyone stared at the sail, which they had to help remove so Usopp could paint it, and then put it back in place, leaving them completely exhausted.

"Alright!! Everything's ready!! The pirate ship Going Merry is complete!" Luffy shouted happily that everything was finally done.

"He's happy and we're exhausted… how does that work?" Oliver asked from the floor, feeling a pain in his side. "I just want to sleep."

"With the injuries you have, it's normal to feel tired," Nami told him.

The rest of the crew was resting when suddenly a loud cannon shot was heard.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Zoro shouted.

"Practicing with the cannons, since I saw they were working. But they don't shoot very well," Luffy said, frustrated that he couldn't destroy a rock in the distance.

"Let me see that," Usopp said, approaching the cannon. "What do you want to shoot at?"

"That rock," Luffy said.

Usopp looked at the target, adjusted the aim, and fired, hitting it directly.

"Wow! You hit it in one shot!" Luffy said, impressed.

"I hit it in one shot!" Usopp said, not believing it, but he quickly recovered. "See? Didn't I tell you? If you need accuracy, I'm your man."

"It's decided. You're going to be our sniper!" Luffy said with a smile, glad to have a good marksman.

Now everyone was in the kitchen relaxing for a moment as they thought about their next destination.

"Well, to begin with, I think I'll accept that position, but if you can't control the ship, there'll be an instant captain change," Usopp said threateningly.

"Yeah, whatever," Luffy said, not paying much attention to that. "Although now that you mention it, once someone told me about changing captains."

"Wait, you can really change captains?! I mean, of course you can change captains," Usopp said.

"Yeah, they told me you have to ask the first mate," Luffy said, remembering a man who smoked.

"The first mate? We have that in the crew?" Nami asked.

"Of course, it's Oliver," Luffy said with a smile.

Oliver, who was drinking a soda, almost choked on it.

"It's me?!" Oliver asked.

"Yeah, unless you don't want to be," Luffy asked.

"No, no, I mean, yes, of course I'm fine with being first mate," Oliver said, shocked by the decision.

"Alright, then what we need to do is fill another position before going to the Grand Line," Luffy said.

"That's true. Now we have a good kitchen. I'd pay anything," Nami said.

"A vital and essential member for sailors," Zoro said, supporting Nami on what they needed.

"You're with me, right? It's exactly what a pirate ship needs," Luffy said with a smile. "A musician."

"You're brain-dead!" Nami yelled at him.

"Why do you make it sound like you have a good idea and then drop something stupid like that?" Zoro asked, unable to understand him at times.

"I don't know how you didn't suspect that was going to be his answer. It's Luffy we're talking about," Oliver said.

Just then a loud shout was heard outside, startling Usopp.

"What?"

Luffy went to see, and there was the bounty hunter Johnny, who was destroying barrels on the ship.

"Hey!! Who the hell are you?!" Luffy shouted.

"And you're asking me?"

Johnny attacked Luffy, but he dodged, which caused Johnny to destroy a small part of the ship.

"Don't you think we should help him?" Usopp asked.

"What for? He can handle it," Zoro said.

They waited a moment until the fight finally ended, so everyone left the kitchen, where Zoro recognized that swordsman.

"Huh? That's Johnny?" he wondered, seeing him there.

"ANIKI-ZORO?!!" Johnny shouted, shocked.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you with Yosaku?" Zoro asked.

Through tears, Johnny began explaining how Yosaku suddenly became ill.

"His teeth started falling out, and his old scars opened and began bleeding. I just… didn't know what to do. So I brought him to an empty rock to rest… and then a cannonball from this ship flew over!!"

What Johnny said made Luffy and Usopp realize they were responsible.

"W-We're sorry!" both apologized deeply.

"What's done is done. Don't torture yourselves. If apologies solved everything, we wouldn't need the law," Johnny said.

"We finally reached the point where pirates trembled at the names Yosaku and Johnny. My nakama and I have been bounty hunting for years!!! Is he going to die, Aniki?" he asked, completely distressed.

"Are you idiots or what?" Nami said angrily.

"What's your problem, Nami?" Zoro asked, irritated.

"I won't sit here and let you ridicule the death of my Nakama," Johnny said, grabbing his sword.

"Luffy! Usopp! Do you remember where the lemons are in the kitchen? Extract the juice and bring it here for Yosaku!" Nami ordered, and both ran off immediately.

"Lemons?" Johnny asked, confused.

"It's scurvy," Nami told him.

Luffy and Usopp came back with the squeezed lemon to start giving it to Yosaku.

"If we haven't come too late, he'll be fine in a few days," she explained to Johnny while Usopp and Luffy practically drowned Yosaku with lemon juice.

"Really, Aneki?!" Johnny asked, extremely happy.

"Don't call me that. Long ago, this disease struck fear into sailors traveling by sea. It's simply a deficiency of vegetable nutrients. Ancient ships didn't have the ability to store fresh fruit and vegetables on long voyages," she explained, leaving several impressed.

"Wow, you're like a doctor," Luffy said, impressed by her knowledge.

"I knew that's what he had," Usopp said proudly.

"You need to know these things to sail the sea!! Without me you'd die!!" Nami yelled at them, angry they didn't know something so basic.

Oliver stayed quiet to avoid being scolded by Nami.

Then Yosaku stood up and started jumping with his nakama.

"I'm back to full health!!" Yosaku shouted.

"Woooooo, you did it, Nakama!!" Johnny shouted as well.

"You can't recover that fast!!" Nami yelled, angry at his lack of common sense.

"Sorry for not introducing ourselves. I'm Johnny!"

"I'm Yosaku!! We used to be bounty hunters with Aniki-Zoro!! Nice to meet you!!"

Both swordsmen introduced themselves to the crew.

"I don't know how to thank you. I thought I was going to die," Yosaku said.

"That's almost as surprising as bounty hunter Zoro becoming a pirate," Johnny said.

Then Yosaku vomited blood and collapsed again since it was impossible for him to recover that fast.

"Shut up and rest!!" Zoro scolded him.

"Let this be a lesson to you," Nami said, sitting on the stairs.

"This is the kind of thing you have to be careful about on a long journey," Zoro said, seeing what could happen.

"If he hadn't found us, he would have died, and what we need to control nutrition on a long journey is a sea cook," Usopp said, lying down.

"When you think about it, it's a vital skill," Nami said.

"Then let's find a cook!! Besides, that means we'll eat amazing food on the ship!!" Luffy said, imagining the dishes they could eat.

"Aniki, Aniki!" Johnny said insistently, raising his hand.

"What is it, Johnny?" Zoro asked.

"If you're looking for a sea cook, then I know the perfect place. Getting him to go with you will be another problem, but anyway…"

Johnny told them there was a restaurant in the middle of the sea about two or three days from where they were, and he also told Zoro he knew Hawk-Eye sometimes appeared around there, which excited Zoro.
