Lorena, Arturo, and his wife—still bound but no longer blindfolded—flinched as the last of the cloth was torn away. The dim light of the station stung their eyes, but it was the sight of me that made them freeze.
Lorena's voice was hoarse, disbelieving. "Jack... is that you?"
I didn't look at her immediately. Instead, I turned to Jayden, my voice cold and commanding. "Open their blindfolds. And their handcuffs."
Jayden hesitated, her fingers trembling as she glanced toward the door where Benito and Patricia had been taken. But the thought of her family—her husband, her daughter—still under my control forced her into action. With shaking hands, she unlocked the cuffs and tore away the last of the blindfolds.
The blindfolds slipped away, and Lorena, Arturo, and his wife blinked against the harsh fluorescent lights of the station. Their eyes adjusted just in time to see me standing before them, calm, composed, and utterly in control.
