The living room was dimly lit, the curtains drawn halfway. A coffee mug sat on the table, untouched, the steam long gone cold.
Lynn's gaze swept around the room, noting the faint tension clinging to every corner. "You've been avoiding my calls," she said quietly and elena was immediate taken aback, Lynn didn't want to mention it at first, but she didn't call Elena just once. she called her a few times and Elena was holding her phone in her hand when she opened the front door, there was no way she didn't see her call.
"I know," Elena replied finally in a low voice. wringing her hands. "I'm sorry. Things have just been… complicated."
"Complicated how?"
Elena hesitated. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. The air between them thickened. Lynn took a small step closer, her tone softening though her pulse raced. "Elena, if something's wrong, you can tell me. Is it about Alex?"
That made Elena's head snap up instantly, her eyes became wide.
