I lie on Daelan's chest.
The steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my ear is better than any lullaby. Better than any reassurance. It's proof—proof that he's here, that he's alive, that he came back.
I need to do this often. I need to feel him.
He's only been back a week, and I still get anxiety when I'm not next to him. Every time he leaves the room, my chest tightens. Every time he's out of sight, my mind starts spiraling. It's irrational. I know it's irrational.
He's an S-class hunter now, he's probably safer than anyone.
But logic doesn't matter when you've spent a month watching a door, waiting for someone to come back from the edge of death.
So I lie on his chest. I count his heartbeats. I remind myself he's real.
"I can't believe you're S-class now," I murmur, tracing idle patterns on his shirt.
