Chapter 536: Mo Cangxuan, Head of the Lineage
The Mo family's territory.
As they spoke, a small spaceship had already landed on a stone platform at the top of Mo Mountain. Behind the platform, a stone staircase extended upwards, and in the distance, a traditional and ancient pavilion could be seen emerging from the shade of the trees.
On both sides of the platform's cliff stood many people, and even some distant trees were filled with figures. All of them were curiously watching the small spaceship descend, their eyes filled with scrutiny.
When Lin Zhentian disembarked from the spaceship, two young figures emerged from the crowd to greet him.
"Elder Lin."
The two figures, one male and one female, bowed respectfully to Lin Zhentian.
"Ah, it's Mo Tao and Mo Feng." Lin Zhentian smiled as he recognized the two, nodding in acknowledgment.
Standing behind Lin Zhentian, Mo Yu's heart stirred slightly upon hearing this. Ever since the Mo family in Yancheng had been wiped out, this was the first time he had met other members of his family with the same surname.
He first looked at the young man, who was tall with short hair. He appeared slightly chubby, with long arms and a gentle smile, though his slow movements gave off a rather simple and honest vibe.
In contrast, the girl next to him was much more striking.
She was tall and wore her hair in a high ponytail. Her facial features were quite delicate, especially her nose, which was quite sharp, giving her face a distinct, angular beauty. Her almond-shaped eyes emitted a fierce and sharp aura. Her slim waist was cinched by a red silk belt, making her look both energetic and strong.
As Mo Yu sized them up, Mo Tao and Mo Feng's gazes had already skipped over Lin Zhentian and focused on him.
Both of them were surprised at what they saw.
The young man before them stood tall, with striking silver eyes that were particularly unique. His face was incredibly handsome—handsome enough to stand out even among the many good-looking men in the Lei Clan. His silver eyes were bright and calm, and despite being an outsider, he didn't seem at all uneasy about being in the Lei Realm.
Beside Mo Yu stood Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin, both of whom also caught the attention of Mo Tao and Mo Feng. After all, whether it was Xiao Yixian or Qing Lin, both women were so beautiful and graceful that even Mo Feng couldn't help but feel a bit inadequate in comparison.
Seeing such beautiful companions by Mo Yu's side surprised the Mo family pair even more.
After sizing up Mo Yu for a moment, the young man named Mo Tao approached him with a curious smile.
"Are you Mo Yu, the Black Thunder Captain?"
Mo Yu remained calm and nodded.
Upon hearing this, Mo Tao's eyes sparkled with excitement. He clasped his hands in front of him and bowed deeply, clearly overjoyed.
"Black Thunder Captain, you've finally returned to the Lei Realm! Our Mo family has been waiting for this day for a long time!"
Even though Mo Yu had prepared himself mentally, his eyebrows couldn't help but twitch slightly at Mo Tao's enthusiasm.
It was clear from this that the situation within the Mo family was quite dire.
Faced with Mo Tao's overwhelming enthusiasm, Mo Yu could only smile and pull him up. "We're all family. Just call me Mo Yu from now on."
"That won't do! The Lei Clan has strict rules on hierarchy. Since you are the Black Thunder Captain, your status in our Mo family is second only to the head of the family. We must not break protocol," Mo Tao replied honestly.
At that moment, Mo Feng also stepped forward. After glancing Mo Yu up and down, she spoke in a flat tone, "The elders of the family have placed their hopes on you. I don't know if they're right or not. But since you're here, you should do your best for the sake of the Mo family. I'm Mo Feng. If you encounter any trouble within the clan, feel free to let me know, and I'll do my best to help."
Mo Tao, standing nearby, laughed mischievously and said, "Big Sister Feng is quite close to Miss Fei'er. She has a lot of influence in the Lei Clan. If you ever need help, just go to her."
He even winked at Mo Yu as he spoke, clearly hinting at something.
After all, it was no secret within the family that Mo Yu was engaged to Lei Fei'er.
And since Mo Feng was Lei Fei'er's best friend, it was obvious that if Mo Yu wanted to learn more about his fiancée, Mo Feng would be the perfect person to talk to.
Hearing this, Mo Yu shot Mo Feng a surprised look. He hadn't expected her to be so closely connected to his fiancée.
"Mind your words," Mo Feng scolded Mo Tao, who immediately raised his hands in surrender. She then looked at Mo Yu and sighed softly.
"When Fei'er and I chat, your name comes up often. Initially, she was strongly opposed to the engagement—not because of you personally, but because she's naturally proud and doesn't care much for arranged marriages. However, she couldn't go against her parents' wishes or the clan leader's orders, which is how things ended up this way. I hope you'll treat her well in the future."
Mo Yu nodded but didn't say much.
He wasn't familiar with Lei Fei'er, so how they would get along in the future was something they'd have to figure out over time. It wasn't something he could discuss with outsiders.
"Alright, are you done chatting? My old friend must be waiting for Mo Yu. Let's head out now," Lin Zhentian said with a chuckle as he stroked his beard.
"Yes, the head of the family has indeed been waiting for a while," Mo Feng and Mo Tao exchanged glances and nodded.
Mo Feng then turned to the surrounding crowd and raised her voice, "You all see him, right? This is Mo Yu, the Black Thunder Captain. From now on, he's part of our Mo family. Remember to show proper respect!"
As soon as she said this, the crowd began to disperse, though faint whispers could still be heard.
"That's the Black Thunder Captain?"
"Yes, I heard he's a genius the clan leader discovered in the northwest, apparently from the exiled branch of the family."
"An exiled branch? Who would've thought that after all these years, someone from the Mo family outside could rise to such greatness? Truly amazing."
"Indeed."
As they walked towards the heart of Mo Mountain, Mo Feng turned to Mo Yu and said, "There are a lot of people in the Mo family. As you visit more often, you'll get to know everyone better."
Mo Yu smiled and nodded. "I will."
After several minutes of walking, they finally reached the top, where Mo Yu saw an ancient pavilion resembling a grand hall. The hall was surrounded on three sides by water, with a path of green stone slabs leading up to it, shaded by lush greenery.
Lin Zhentian approached the entrance of the ancestral hall and called out, "Old friend, I've brought the Black Thunder Captain."
"Come in," an elderly voice resonated from within the hall. The voice was calm and steady, with a deep and powerful presence.
Lin Zhentian pushed open the door, and light streamed in through the gap.
Mo Yu's gaze followed the light into the hall.
Inside, the hall was spacious, and many figures with imposing auras were seated.
Mo Yu's eyes immediately focused on the seat of honor, where he saw an elderly man slowly open his eyes.
The old man's gaze fell on the young man standing at the entrance, bathed in sunlight.
Sensing the powerful aura within Mo Yu and the familiar resonance of their shared bloodline, the elderly man murmured to himself, "Heaven has not abandoned the Mo family."
As the elderly man stood up, the people inside the hall were visibly surprised. Two middle-aged men seated on either side of the elder exchanged glances.
The man on the left was slightly chubby, with a round face and a warm smile, looking more like a wealthy merchant than a warrior.
The man on the right was more muscular, exuding a fierce and intimidating aura. His thick black eyebrows resembled thunderbolts, and even his eyes seemed to spark with lightning.
In comparison to the affable man on the left, the man on the right was clearly more aggressive.
"Zhentian, my old friend, thank you," the elderly man exchanged a few pleasantries with Lin Zhentian before turning back to Mo Yu at the entrance.
"Black Thunder Captain Mo Yu, is it? Come in," the elder called out, waving Mo Yu inside.
Mo Yu hesitated for a moment, scanning the hall before nodding slowly.
He entered the hall, his eyes falling on the elderly man seated at the head.
This old man was clearly advanced in age, but even as he sat quietly, he exuded an aura as vast and immovable as a mountain. In that moment, it felt as though he had become one with the hall itself, his every movement capable of summoning the might of the heavens.
This indescribable pressure was something Mo Yu had only felt once before, from the Sea Demon Lord.
A high-level Semi-Saint!
Mo Yu's heart couldn't help but stir. He hadn't expected that despite the Mo family's decline, they still had a high-level Semi-Saint. If the Mo family was once in its prime, they must have been incredibly powerful.
However, the old man's aura was extremely weak, as though his life was nearing its end. It was clear that he had lived far longer than most.
"Mo Yu greets the elder," Mo Yu bowed respectfully, greeting the old man as a junior should.
"Look at you, so formal. I suppose it's understandable, though, since you grew up outside and aren't familiar with our family customs," the elder smiled with a hint of complexity in his expression.
Mo Yu nodded. Surrounded by so many unfamiliar relatives, he didn't feel much emotion, so he remained silent.
Seeing this, the elder's eyes grew sad, clearly not expecting Mo Yu to feel so distant from the family. For a moment, he too fell silent.
"Ahem."
The round-faced man next to the elder coughed lightly to break the awkward silence. He stood up with a warm smile and introduced himself to Mo Yu.
"Black Thunder Captain, this is Mo Cangxuan, the head of our Mo family. Lord Cangxuan has held this position for centuries, serving as the backbone of our family."
"As for me, I am the Great Elder of the Mo family, Mo Pan. The man beside me is the Second Elder, Mo Xiao. We assist Lord Cangxuan with family affairs."
He gestured towards the black-browed middle-aged man, who nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze still sharp and assessing.
Mo Yu clasped his hands in respect and said, "Mo Yu greets the Great Elder and Second Elder."
He could sense that these two men had powerful auras. Though not as strong as the head of the family, they had still reached the level of a low-level Semi-Saint.
A high-level Semi-Saint and two low-level Semi-Saints—no wonder the Mo family had long been one of the Lei Clan's four major vassal families. Their strength was indeed formidable.
Of course, their power was not without its weaknesses.
First, the family head, Mo Cangxuan, was a high-level Semi-Saint, but he had not reached the level of a Dou Saint. This put the Mo family at a disadvantage compared to the other three major vassal families.
Second, Mo Cangxuan was too old, and from what Mo Yu could tell, he didn't have much time left. Once Mo Cangxuan passed away, the Mo family would be left with only two low-level Semi-Saints. This kind of strength would be insufficient to maintain their position, not just in the Lei Clan but even compared to other powers like the Flower Sect in Zhongzhou.
The four major vassal families were the pillars of the Lei Clan, each capable of holding their own and serving as key allies to the clan leader. However, given the Mo family's current decline, it was no surprise that rumors had begun to circulate about them being removed from the ranks of the four major vassal families.
"Lord Cangxuan, the Black Thunder Captain has lived outside the family for many years. It's only natural that he feels unfamiliar with our customs. He'll get used to it over time," Mo Pan said to Mo Cangxuan.
"Yes, I understand. I'm just feeling sentimental. I never expected that our Mo family would produce such a talented individual as the Black Thunder Captain," Mo Cangxuan said with a sigh.
"Indeed. It's quite remarkable. The fact that the clan leader values you so highly, promoting you and granting you marriage to Miss Fei'er, shows just how extraordinary you are," Mo Xiao added.
Mo Cangxuan nodded, his expression softening as he looked at Mo Yu.
"Black Thunder Captain, you carry the bloodline of the Mo family. From now on, consider Mo Mountain your home," Cangxuan said.
"I'll follow the head's orders, but please, call me Mo Yu in the future," Mo Yu responded.
Cangxuan smiled, his gaze lingering on Mo Yu. He could sense something extraordinary within him—a quality that even the most outstanding young members of the family lacked.
Seeming to come to a decision, the old man's expression became even more kind and joyful as he chuckled.
"Mo Yu, how would you feel about becoming the head of the Mo family?"
