Chapter 535: The Grim Situation of the Mo Clan
In the boundless blue sky, clouds drifted lazily, and a gentle breeze occasionally swept across the vast plains below, creating rolling waves of green that stretched into the distance.
Suddenly, a sharp sound cut through the sky as space rippled violently, and a massive black door emerged out of nowhere. Shortly after the space gate appeared, figures began to materialize one by one, standing in this unfamiliar world.
"This is the Thunder Realm? The energy in the air here is incredibly rich, several times stronger than outside!"
"A realm that only Dou Saints can reach... such a miraculous power is truly astounding."
As the figures appeared, murmurs of amazement gradually spread. Mo Yu and his companions also emerged from the space gate, sensing the dense energy of the realm. Mo Yu raised his brow slightly.
"The energy here is indeed very potent. Training in this environment would likely increase progress at least twice as fast as in the outside world. The ancient Emperor clans not only have superior talents but also have places like this, which explains why they are so powerful," Xiao Yi Xian remarked, inhaling deeply as a trace of wonder appeared on her face.
"This realm is almost like an entirely separate world, albeit smaller than the Dou Qi continent. But because it's more condensed, the energy here is concentrated. Training here could indeed yield twice the results with half the effort," Mo Yu nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, a rumbling sound echoed from the distant horizon. Mo Yu and the others turned to see a mass of dark clouds filled with terrifying lightning, surging towards them.
"What is that?" Mo Yu squinted at the approaching storm cloud. After a moment, his eyes widened. "A flying warship?"
Others soon noticed as well, and gasps of astonishment filled the air. The dark cloud was, in fact, a fleet of ten massive warships flying through the sky, surrounded by crackling lightning, creating an awe-inspiring and majestic sight.
The thunderous sound of the warships echoed through the skies, and the cloud of lightning slowly came to a halt above the group. A voice, old yet powerful, rang out from one of the warships.
"Welcome, honored guests. Please board the ships."
As the voice faded, the cloud of lightning parted, revealing a path leading to the warships. After a brief hesitation, some figures took the lead and flew toward the massive ships. Mo Yu and his companions followed the crowd and boarded one of the enormous vessels.
Once on board, Mo Yu realized just how vast these warships were, making the people aboard seem tiny in comparison. All around, Black Demon Army soldiers stood guard with long spears, maintaining strict security.
After everyone had boarded, the old voice spoke again, and with a sudden jolt, the ship began to move, and the space around them started to ripple violently.
"A ship that can travel through space?"
"Heh, these ships are relics passed down by the Thunder Clan from ancient times, called 'Void Shuttles.' They are so fast that even peak Dou Zun experts couldn't catch them. But these ships are incredibly rare. Aside from the Thunder Clan, only the Gu and Soul Clans have them," a voice behind Mo Yu suddenly chuckled.
Turning around, Mo Yu saw an elderly man in a black robe smiling at him.
"Thank you for the information, senior," Mo Yu smiled and clasped his hands in respect. The old man seemed friendly, and Mo Yu could sense that he had no ill intentions.
"You're welcome, Black Thunder Captain. I am Lin Zhentian, an elder of the Lin Clan. Our two clans have a close relationship," the old man introduced himself with a smile.
"Oh, an elder of the Lin Clan," Mo Yu muttered, slightly surprised. He had already met members of the Mang Clan, like Mang Tianchi, the headmaster of Jia Nan Academy, and Mang Lei and Mang Dian. He had also encountered the Mu Clan in Mo Lei City. But this was his first meeting with someone from the Lin Clan.
"Heh, it's no surprise that you're unfamiliar with me. The Lin and Mo clans have a history of intermarriage, so we share a close bond. I'm quite amazed that the Mo Clan has produced such a talent as yourself, so I came to say hello," Lin Zhentian explained, noticing Mo Yu's curiosity.
"I see," Mo Yu nodded.
This was the Thunder Realm, and Lin Zhentian was an elder of the Lin Clan, so there was no reason for him to deceive Mo Yu. After some thought, Mo Yu decided to ask, "Elder Lin, could you tell me how the Mo Clan is doing in the Thunder Clan these days?"
Although Xiao Yi Xian had gathered some information about the Thunder Clan, much of the internal affairs remained closely guarded secrets. Mo Yu had little emotional attachment to the Mo Clan, but as a member of the family, he wondered if he could eventually bring them under his influence.
Lin Zhentian was momentarily surprised by the question but then stroked his long beard thoughtfully. "Such information is typically kept within the Thunder Clan, but since you're a Black Thunder Captain and a Mo Clan member, I suppose it's fine to tell you."
Lin Zhentian led Mo Yu into a private room aboard the ship and spoke in a low voice. "To be frank, the situation of the Mo Clan is not looking good. If it weren't for the fact that someone as extraordinary as you emerged, the Mo Clan might have already been removed from the Four Vassal Families."
"Removed from the Four Vassal Families?" Mo Yu's expression darkened slightly, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
The Mo, Mang, Mu, and Lin clans were the four pillars of the Thunder Clan, holding significant status. Even in the outside world, they were as powerful as top forces like the Hall of Souls or the Pill Tower. Yet now, the Mo Clan was on the verge of being cast out—a clear sign of their decline.
"Has the Mo Clan really fallen so far?" Mo Yu asked, his voice heavy.
Lin Zhentian nodded with a sigh. "Over the past few centuries, the Dou Di bloodline within the Mo Clan has grown thinner and thinner. As a result, the clan has produced fewer and fewer talents. Many of the remaining elders have passed away, and today, the Mo Clan's power is weaker than even the Second-Rate Sects in the Central Plains.
"The four vassal families are the pillars of the Thunder Clan, but now, the Mo Clan no longer lives up to that honor. Many elders within the clan have proposed removing the Mo Clan and replacing it with a new family. Were it not for your talent and the fact that you are engaged to Lady Fei'er, the Mo Clan would have already been ousted."
Lin Zhentian sighed again before glancing at Xiao Yi Xian and Qing Lin. The sight of such stunning beauties beside Mo Yu made even the old elder blink in admiration. Mo Yu's engagement to the Thunder Clan leader's daughter, coupled with his relationship with these women, made Lin Zhentian question whether such behavior was appropriate.
Mo Yu, however, paid no attention to Lin Zhentian's thoughts. He narrowed his eyes, contemplating what he had just heard. In truth, the Mo Clan's decline worked to Mo Yu's advantage. A weakened clan would be more dependent on him, and Mo Yu could seize greater power within the clan. If he could solidify his position in the Thunder Clan, he might not become its leader, but the position of Mo Clan patriarch wasn't out of reach.
Mo Yu knew well that the Dou Qi continent was not his final destination. Beyond this world lay the vast Great Thousand World, a place where legends like Xiao Yan and Lin Dong had ventured. They had founded great forces like the Endless Flame Alliance and the Martial Realm.
For Mo Yu, entering the Great Thousand World and establishing his own force was a necessary step. The current Yuan Sect was too small to support his grand ambitions. If he could take control of the Mo Clan—or even the entire Thunder Clan—they could become a powerful vanguard for him in the battles to come.
"Thank you, Elder Lin, for sharing this information," Mo Yu said, putting his thoughts aside and bowing respectfully.
"Heh, no need to be so formal. Given the bond between our two clans, I have always felt regret over the Mo Clan's decline. Fortunately, with a talent like you, the Mo Clan still has hope. If you perform well in the upcoming tournament and marry Lady Fei'er, it should secure the Mo Clan's status for at least a hundred years," Lin Zhentian said with a smile, stroking his beard.
Mo Yu nodded. "As a member of the Mo Clan, even though I've never lived with them, I will do my part for the family."
As soon as Mo Yu finished speaking, a loud rumble echoed through the air.
"Boom!"
Mo Yu froze for a moment, but Lin Zhentian chuckled. "Don't worry, we've arrived at our destination."
Above the sky, dark clouds churned as the massive warship slowed down over a seemingly endless plain. Countless eyes watched from below as the ship came to a stop.
Mo Yu and the others gathered at the bow of the ship and looked down. Below them stretched an expansive plain, and from within it, they could faintly sense numerous powerful auras. Many on board couldn't help but gasp in awe at the sheer number of strong individuals gathered here. It was truly the Thunder Clan's heartland.
As the ship drifted to a halt in the sky, Mo Yu's gaze was drawn to the massive city below, a city so vast that its limits couldn't be seen. Beams of light rose from the city and connected to one another, forming an enormous array that enveloped the entire city.
The largest city Mo Yu had seen before was Yuan City, but compared to the one below, Yuan City looked pitifully small.
"This city is called Tianlei City, the largest city in the Thunder Realm. But this is not our destination," Lin Zhentian's voice came from beside him.
Mo Yu followed Lin Zhentian's gesture and looked beyond Tianlei City. There, a towering mountain range rose into the sky. Each peak seemed as tall as the heavens, and the ridges were so steep and jagged that they resembled the spines of massive dragons. A sharp, fierce aura radiated from the mountains, sending chills through anyone who looked at them.
"Welcome to the Thunder Realm," Lin Zhentian smiled at Mo Yu.
He waved his hand, and a small flying ship appeared. He gestured for Mo Yu and his companions to board.
"At the request of an old friend, I am to escort you to the Mo Clan's territory. Shall we go?" Lin Zhentian asked with a smile.
Mo Yu hesitated briefly but then nodded. Since he was a member of the Mo Clan, it made sense to see their situation first. Xiao Yi Xian and Qing Lin naturally had no objections.
Seeing Mo Yu's agreement, Lin Zhentian smiled, stroked his beard, and guided the flying ship toward the mountains. As they approached, the space ahead rippled like water, and as the ship passed through, the scenery changed.
They saw countless palaces and pavilions scattered across the mountain range, connected by floating pathways made of giant stones. The entire scene was one of breathtaking grandeur.
But what impressed Mo Yu and his companions the most was the sheer concentration of energy in the air. The energy here was far richer and purer than anywhere Mo Yu had ever seen before. It formed a mist that flowed gently between the mountains.
As the ship flew through the mountains, they passed by many people and ships. Mo Yu also noticed that many eyes were watching their ship closely.
Lin Zhentian steered the ship through the mountains, and soon they arrived at a towering peak. The mountain stood straight like a sharp sword piercing the sky, and the clouds above it seemed to have been split open by an invisible force.
"This is Mo Mountain, the Mo Clan's home. Mo Yu, I believe the clan elder is waiting for you inside." (End of Chapter)
