Even the sounds of our boots pounding against the marbled floor were lost in the quietude. The echoes of our steps were swallowed by the mansion's cavernous halls.
These damn halls stretched on endlessly; corridors branching into corridors, arches leading into staircases that curved back into themselves like an insulting joke. Where the hell would that kind of stair lead to?
I didn't get to find out because Claude went past it and stayed in the hallway. Maybe he thought it was just a peculiar piece of art. But I didn't say anything because the floor where we saw Allen was definitely on the second floor.
