Chris decided to tackle one of the missions first.
He selected the first assignment:
[Recently, large numbers of berserk Pokemon have appeared on Route 108. According to investigations, the source of the Pokemon's rage appears to be an abandoned ship. Due to numerous powerful Pokemon in the surrounding area, investigators cannot approach safely. The Elite Four and Champion are requested to eliminate the source of the Pokemon rampage.]
This situation likely involved Water-type Pokemon.
Using Salamence to fly, he arrived at Dewford Town, then headed east by water to reach Route 108.
Just a few steps into the route, Chris immediately entered a battle encounter.
[A Shadow Tentacool leaped out of the water!]
Shadow Tentacool (Dark) LV15
Seeing the Tentacool shrouded in thick, ominous darkness, Chris paused in surprise.
"Shadow Pokemon?"
"Are these berserk Pokemon that the investigators mentioned actually Shadow Pokemon?"
He used Zeraora to defeat it instantly with Thunderbolt, then continued forward.
After several more steps, Chris encountered another Shadow Pokemon—this time a level 20 Tentacruel.
"This doesn't seem like a coincidence," Chris frowned thoughtfully, making some connections.
Could this batch of Shadow Pokemon originate from the same source as the Shadow Pokemon that had attacked Alto Mare previously?
Although the Shadow Pokemon here appeared weaker, if he thought about it carefully, hadn't that group of Shadow Pokemon been heading toward the Hoenn Region when they departed?
Well, the distance from Hoenn to Alto Mare seemed quite far, though.
"Maybe the creators of those Shadow Pokemon came to the Hoenn Region?" Chris speculated.
I let you escape last time, but you won't get away this time, will you?
Continuing forward, Chris began encountering Shadow Pokemon frequently—basically running into one every few steps. Even using Repel had no effect; Shadow Pokemon appeared to be naturally immune to such deterrents.
Furthermore, as Chris approached the abandoned shipwreck, the Shadow Pokemon he encountered grew progressively stronger.
When Chris reached the sunken ship's deck, he had faced a level 50 Wailord at its highest.
He guided his character into the vessel's interior.
Immediately, a prompt appeared before his eyes:
[Enter special dungeon "Sea Mauville's Shadow" (disappears after completion)? Yes/No]
[Recommended Entry Level: 90]
"A level 90 dungeon?"
This matched the same difficulty as Victory Road, which he had just cleared!
Chris grew increasingly eager to meet the creator of these Shadow Pokemon.
"Enter!"
The scenery before Chris transformed as he entered the dungeon.
Above his head, a thick haze covered the sky, while beneath his feet lay the deck of the abandoned shipwreck. A group of Shadow Pokemon covered in dark energy stared menacingly at Chris.
"Garde~" Gardevoir emerged from its Poke Ball of its own accord.
"What's wrong?"
"Garde! (I detected the psychic imprint I left behind!)"
Chris raised his eyebrows. "You mean the one you placed on that Shadow Dragonite?"
"Garde! (Yes!)"
"I knew it!" Chris chuckled, releasing another Poke Ball.
Garchomp landed on the deck and immediately underwent Mega Evolution!
"Clear the path!"
"Garch!" Mega Garchomp let out a fierce roar and charged forward, racing across the deck with incredible speed.
A single Dragon Claw shattered its target.
Not only had the steel door been demolished, but the Shadow Kabutops hiding behind it was also destroyed!
The level 70 Kabutops was defeated instantly, not even qualifying to receive a second attack from Mega Garchomp.
"Garch!" Mega Garchomp roared again, leaping into the air. In the next moment, thick Dragon-type energy erupted from its body like volcanic magma.
Dragon Rush!
"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
It crashed straight through multiple obstacles.
Gardevoir was already floating in mid-air, arms extended, scanning the entire abandoned shipwreck with its powerful psychic abilities while searching for targets and simultaneously providing Mega Garchomp with navigation routes.
Chris walked slowly, observing his surroundings as he advanced.
The name of this abandoned shipwreck was Sea Mauville.
It had been an underwater energy mining platform owned by the large Greater Mauville Holdings company. New Mauville, located beneath Mauville City, had also been constructed by Greater Mauville Holdings.
However, the Greater Mauville Holdings company was currently out of business.
Who could blame them for being rivals with Steven's Devon Corporation?
After Devon successfully achieved practical application of Infinity Energy, Greater Mauville Holdings, which primarily dealt in conventional energy sources, began gradually declining.
At the same time, when it rains, it pours—the New Mauville project beneath Mauville City was halted because the project leader Wattson worried that such massive construction would negatively impact the living environment of surrounding Pokemon.
Greater Mauville Holdings was devastated by these setbacks.
Eventually, shortly after the New Mauville project collapsed, the company was forced to evacuate its main facility, Sea Mauville. Greater Mauville Holdings subsequently declared bankruptcy.
Before the facility could be demolished, investigators discovered that the site had developed a unique ecological environment, so Sea Mauville was preserved as a nature reserve.
After many years, the ruins and natural environment had integrated to form a special landscape, and Sea Mauville was renovated as a tourist attraction.
On normal days, quite a few people came here to swim with their Pokemon. If not for the Shadow Pokemon presence, Chris probably would have been "bothered" by those visitors along the route.
Walking through Sea Mauville, Chris could faintly see remnants of Greater Mauville Holdings company branding.
The "Company Rules and Regulations" were still posted on the walls of one lobby:
Say "Good morning" loudly Bringing Pokemon into the workplace is forbidden Arrive on time, always work overtime Sacrifice yourself and ensure safety Teamwork, shared responsibility Absolutely obey the boss's orders Maintain quality, abandon rationality Worship and praise the founder Don't expect time off until retirement No need to think, just work
"Yikes, what kind of employees did this Greater Mauville Holdings company want? They wanted corporate slaves!" Chris couldn't help but comment.
No wonder it had to go bankrupt.
It deserved that fate.
"Garde (scan complete)," Gardevoir lowered its arms, and its psychic energy stabilized.
"Create a 3D model."
Gardevoir extended its arms again, and a platform model resembling an aircraft carrier appeared before Chris. The Pokemon's appearances and movements within the model were incredibly lifelike.
Chris directed his gaze toward the bottom of the model.
A girl with twin ponytails nearly reaching the ground caught his attention.
"Garchomp, use Dig!"
