Things went a little off Lin Yi's calculations.
When the light went out, everything around him became too dark.
He couldn't see anything at all, and only thanks to his familiarity with the surroundings was he able to move forward little by little, feeling his way through.
Not bringing another night-vision device had been a mistake.
Fortunately, although the floor lights were off, the elevator lights and the emergency exit lights were still on.
He only had to head that way.
A journey that would normally take ten minutes took him twice as long this time.
The elevator wasn't an option, as the surveillance room had likely fallen under the thieves' control, and using it would immediately expose him.
Worse still, the elevator door might open to a hail of bullets.
There was no choice but to use the emergency exit.
Lin Yi pushed open the emergency exit door, and just as he entered, a black shadow lunged at him.
Instinctively, he ducked to dodge, grabbed the attacker's foot, and made them fall. Immediately, he pounced on them, and before they could react, he pressed his knee against their neck. With his fist raised, he was about to strike when the shadow cried out, "Boss, no!"
Lin Yi's fist stopped in midair. In the dim light, he looked closely and realized the attacker was none other than Wakamatsu, that somewhat clumsy big guy.
"How are you already out here?" Lin Yi asked, relaxing upon seeing it was one of his own. He stood up and extended a hand to help him up.
"I was hiding over there..."
Now standing, Wakamatsu pointed in frustration to a cluttered corner on the stair landing. "I had just stepped out, and then you came in... I thought it was the guards who heard noise."
"Calm down... Those guards turned off the lights and went back to the surveillance room."
Lin Yi nodded and said, "I'm heading to the surveillance room to check the situation. You, go straight to the third floor. I just saw four kids running up there... Catch them, tie them together, and don't let them interfere with us."
"Got it," Wakamatsu replied.
Wakamatsu nodded and then, with some confusion, asked, "How did you see them on the third floor?"
"It's complicated to explain, so I won't... Just go," Lin Yi responded, not wanting to elaborate. "Before you act, make sure to cover your face with something. Got it? If they see you, it'll be a problem."
"Understood," Wakamatsu nodded again, confident that dealing with those four kids wouldn't be a big deal.
Just as Wakamatsu was about to head upstairs, Lin Yi suddenly had a strange feeling, as if deep inside him someone was warning him that Wakamatsu was destined to "take a beating."
But it wasn't his time yet. At least, not until the heist was over.
Lin Yi couldn't help but warn, "Be careful, that kid with the glasses isn't simple."
"Huh?" Wakamatsu was perplexed. He didn't understand why Lin Yi said that but responded with an "oh" nonetheless.
Along the emergency exit, they reached the second basement.
Everything was shrouded in complete darkness, except for the bright light coming from the surveillance room.
Lin Yi advanced lightly, slowly approaching the room.
The door was slightly ajar, and just by peeking in, he could see inside.
A man dressed in a Kamen Rider suit was inside, along with three thieves, arguing over how to proceed with the robbery. The debate was whether they should raid the jewelry counter on the sixth floor or head to the special sales area on the seventh.
In total, there were four thieves. The best news was that all of them had their weapons holstered at their waists, which meant Lin Yi could take out two of them before they reacted.
The man dressed as Kamen Rider seemed to be the leader. Lin Yi decided it would be best to deal with him first and then randomly pick another "lucky spectator."
With a plan in mind, Lin Yi adjusted his suit, adopting his "thug mode."
Suddenly, his mind cleared completely. The excitement, fear, and worry disappeared in an instant.
Just as Lin Yi was about to enter, he heard a faint sound of footsteps behind him. Without thinking, he turned and threw a punch.
However, when the corner of his eye caught the face of the person, he stopped his fist instantly.
The punch halted right in front of Akemi's nose, leaving her completely terrified.
Lin Yi withdrew his fist and, with a wry smile and a low voice, asked, "Why are you here too?"
Akemi took a few seconds to collect herself. Although it was brief, she now understood a bit how Wakamatsu had felt. She replied in a low voice, "Because the control room is here..."
Lin Yi slapped his forehead, feeling his question had been unnecessary.
A brief silence fell over them, caused by the cabinet incident.
Instinctively, Lin Yi glanced at Akemi's pants. The jeans had been replaced by a skirt, leaving her long legs fully exposed. He couldn't help but take a second look.
Noticing his gaze, Akemi quickly explained, "This outfit only works with jeans or a skirt. I couldn't find the right jeans... so..."
Just as she was about to finish her explanation, Akemi stopped, realizing she didn't really need to justify anything. So, why was she doing it?
Lin Yi stared at her deeply for a moment, then casually nodded, indicating he understood and that no explanation was needed.
This made Akemi feel embarrassed, thinking Lin Yi was ignoring her. She wanted to argue a bit more.
But Lin Yi directly covered her mouth and whispered in her ear, "Stay here and wait. I'll go in."
Akemi pushed his hand away, shook her head, and said, "It's safer if we both go in together."
Lin Yi couldn't allow Akemi to go in. Fighting in a skirt? That would be a disaster! Just lifting a leg and... everything would be in plain view.
No, absolutely not.
Besides, Lin Yi seriously doubted her combat skills.
He tried to convince her gently, "Stay here at the door and stop them from escaping."
Akemi hesitated for a moment, but Lin Yi didn't give her a chance to respond. He pinched her cheek and said, "It's settled. Guard the door."
"Then... be careful," Akemi replied, seeing that Lin Yi had made up his mind.
If she had known that everyone inside was armed, she wouldn't have agreed so easily.
According to the initial plan, Lin Yi intended to take down two of the thieves before they could react and then deal with the other two.
But with Akemi present, he could no longer do it so stealthily. He felt it would be too vile and not fitting for his "handsome guy" image.
Not only did he have to defeat them, but he had to do it stylishly.
With that thought in mind, Lin Yi adjusted his clothes.
Without trying to hide his presence, he pushed the surveillance room door open and walked in confidently.
The thieves were startled to see him enter and then shouted fiercely, "Who are you? What are you doing here? What do you want?"
"Oh, the classic trio of questions."
Lin Yi smiled as he walked to a nearby wall and calmly replied, "I think right now you should be drawing your weapons instead of asking questions."
With that, he stretched out his hand, pressed a switch, and turned off the surveillance room lights.
