The first thing that came to Hazel's senses was Ashlyn's cry. Her little hand shook her body and patted her cheek. She kissed Hazel now and then while calling her with a broken voice.
"Mama, wake up… wake up. Mama…" She nuzzled Hazel's neck and hugged her. She also climbed on top of Hazel's body, lying on her chest, which made Hazel have a hard time breathing.
Hazel grunted and tried to move her body, but it was only then that she felt the pain. It almost felt like her body was being bulldozed by a truck, but the sharp pain in her shoulder jolted her and made her alert to her surroundings.
"Mama…" Ashlyn patted Hazel's cheeks again, sitting on her chest.
"Ugh, you are heavy," Hazel complained. "Get down, Ash, I can't breathe…"
However, Ashlyn cried even harder as she buried her little face in the crook of Hazel's neck. The little girl screamed her ear off.
