Chapter 58 - Old Memories

So after I showed Milim Existence Erasure, she naturally had a lot of questions. One of them being how Subjective Reality abilities work. While explaining them took a very long time given she couldn't wrap her head around the more complex sides which I had developed by using data that borders if not straight up is science fiction and advanced understanding of the nature of the universe, she eventually got the basic idea. Basically, I want something to happen, exist or go away, and then it does. The most basic way to explain it.

She was naturally very impressed but then she asked me how complex I can make something. I was a little surprised that she would ask a question like that given outside of certain situations she basically has the mind of a child but I decided to try it out. I used Subjective Reality to try and create something that would be pretty complex to make down to the most minute detail. Realizing I could make anything I told [Solomon] to make whatever I most deeply wanted to do. Essentially, to end with the result I would like the most but what I got was a bit surprising.

Milim and I are standing on a modern American street corner which [Solomon] reality warped to be perfectly replicated. As for what street corner we're in, it's the one where this all started. The one I almost got run over on about 2 years ago. I facepalm. [Solomon], is this really something I wanted to do that badly?

{Yes.}

Figures. What is this anime shit? What? Do I need closure or something? I hear Milim ask where we are catching my attention. Well, might as well tell her. "Well, I don't think we ever told you but both Rimuru and I come from another world. We're otherworlders that reincarnated here. We're from different parts of that world though. We told everyone not too long ago when you were pretending to be controlled by Clayman. We are currently standing in a replication of one of the last parts of that world that I saw before I died."

Milim understands what I said and looks around. "So you came from here?"

"Yes. Even the air is the same." I notice something on the ground next to me. Leaning down I look at a red stain on the ground. I mumble, "Blood? A little too accurate don't you think [Solomon]?"

{No.}

A little blunt. I look farther into the street. This replication only copied the street corner to save energy so there's just a void farther away at the end of the street but the trail of blood that I would have left behind is there, most likely perfectly accurate to what I left back in the real street corner.

Milim looks at me and asks, "What are you looking at, Migeru?"

"This blood. It's a replication of my old blood. In that case." I turn and look at Milim, "Follow me."

"Eh? Okay."

We walk through the street, following the blood. Subjective Reality keeps the area we're standing in accurate to my old world the entire way through. As we walk, Milim randomly asks, "You weren't always a Slime?"

I laugh a little, "What!? Of course not. I used to be human. Just a normal human in a normal non-magical world. Same with Rimuru. It's strange how fast things changed from that. I honestly don't know how Rimuru did it. I still act like I used to sometimes but he adapted to this world very quickly."

"There was no magic?"

"No, there wasn't. There were no monsters or anything either." I look at Milim. She's looking around at the buildings around us. "You're curious about my old world aren't you."

"Yes, a little. I want to know everything about my besties!"

"I see. Well, nothing better to start with than the food right?" Milim's stomach rumbles. "Ever the glutton aren't you?"

"Hey!" I laugh. I remember during the summer I wrote a lot of my Slime Diaries, Milim had gotten a little fatter than before. Makes sense given how much she was eating and sleeping all day. But I guess Dragonoids don't get overweight easily given outside of a small layer, nothing else appeared in analysis.

"Sorry. But that got me thinking, Rimuru and I introduced a lot of stuff from our old world but not really even close to everything. This is the first time I'll see a lot of this in over 2 years. It's a little exciting." I look at my old house as we arrive. We're here. I open the door and find a dead body in front of me. It's me. His eyes are lifeless and grey with his head surrounded by a pool of blood. "There you go. That's me."

Milim was behind me but peaks and looks. "That's you? Herm. I like you better now."

"I see. I agree but you don't have to be so blunt you know. I wasn't exactly the definition of handsome but I wasn't that bad." She talks about how I don't really look like how she expected me to look as I wipe him away from the replication of my old house. We walk inside and look around. Everything is just as I left it here. I see something on the ground. "You." I blast the water bottle on the ground away and walk past the crater.

As we make it all the way into the house and enter the living room I look at the TV. Ah, all those hours of wasted time watching anime. How I miss that. I'm gonna invent a TV in the future as technology develops after the end of the main story of this reality but waiting for that time has been pretty boring. Looking around the house reminiscing on my old life I hear Milim ask something. "Who's this, Migeru?"

"Huh?" I turn and look at Milim holding a picture frame. I walk over to her and grab the frame. "This is…" A single tear comes out of my eye. "My sister. This is a picture of us when we were little." I wipe the tear off. "I haven't had the time to think of her much but she was probably the only person I could call a true friend in my old life. No one else talked to me." Another tear leaks out. Dammit, I thought monsters didn't feel this kind of stuff very much. Milim stares at me as I look at the picture.

After a few seconds I put the picture down. "I should probably stop. There's no point in thinking about this now. That life is already over and I can't go back but I don't think my sister is someone I can forget." I look at Milim. "She's probably why I liked you so much when we first met Milim. You reminded me of her. I'm not sure how I feel about that now though given you two aren't all that similar when I look at you two. She was way more egotistical and self-centered than you and she was anything but a nice and respectful person. But I still took care of her back then."

Another tear comes out, "I wonder how she's doing now. How did you react to my death? Did you cry? I know you cared about me just as much as I did. So…now that I left you behind…are you okay?"

A flash of light appears in my vision.

"Please be okay."

Another brighter flash.

"I…don't know how I would react if you weren't."

An even larger flash of light appears.

"I wonder what you're doing right now."

Finally the flash becomes so big I can't ignore it and my head starts hurting causing me to collapse to the ground, accidentally tipping over the table where the picture is framed. As the flash goes away, a silhouette is left behind. That of a female demon with piercing red eyes, the exact same shade as mine, sitting on a throne holding and petting a blue blob. The silhouette fades away as I see Milim standing over me, a little worried. "Are you okay Migeru?"

"Eh? Oh, yeah. Just a little pain. It'll go away." I look at the picture that fell on the ground and broke. "I'm okay." I fix the picture with [Hermetic Reality] and stand the table up again. As I put the picture on the table again I say, "We came here to eat right? Let's eat."

I open the refrigerator and take out some ingredients to cook them myself. I could make the finished products myself with [Hermetic Reality] but I decide it's better to make it myself. Shuna doesn't let me make my own food back home. I have to do it in secret to avoid her gourmeifying all my food without permission. Milim looks at the food with saliva running down her face. She looks really excited. I make a steak with some vegetables on the side, using the juices of the steak to add flavor to the vegetables. Using Hermetic Reality: Absolute Gravitational Control- Time Distortion I make some rice really quickly as well and put them on the side of the dish. I hear Milim excitedly say, "It smells so good!" I organize the food neatly in the plate, I serve one to Milim and get the other. Milim looks at the food with stars in her eyes and immediately starts digging in like a child. I eat more slowly as I watch her scarf it down. I gave her the bigger portion.

"You like it?"

"Yup!"

"I see. I'm glad."

Milim peaks at me, seeing me look around this house. She suddenly asks, "Do you…miss this place?"

A little more thoughtful a question than I thought Milim would ask. "I guess. Well, there are things I miss about my old life but it's not like I want to go back right now. I've got a new life now so I can't just abandon you all. I can't abandon Rimuru, Veldora, Cerulean, Ranryo, Souei, Shuna…you."

She looks down. "What about your sister? Do you like her more than me?"

"Eh? Are you jealous?" She looks a little embarrassed. "Well, I can't say I like either of you more than the other. You're both up there with Rimuru for me. You three would be tied for the people I care about the most in both my lives I'd say. You three are above everyone else."

{…}

She smiles to herself brightly, "I-I see. Thank you Migeru!"

"Hm, oh, you're welcome?" I don't really see why she needed to thank me. I guess she's glad I don't want to leave her. As I see the food vanish from Milim's plate I get something else. Some cans of orange soda, a staple of the American diet basically. I hand an open one to Milim. She looks at it.

She asks, "What's this?"

"Soda. Think of it like a bubbly fruit flavored drink. From what I've heard some restaurants in Rimuru City have made something similar but these drinks are different. They are sweeter than what they're selling." They made carbonated drinks back in Tempest but they haven't gone the extra mile and made actual soda yet. I'll definitely pitch this idea to Myourmile in the future for his restaurant chain though. I open mine and drink from it. Milim drinks some too.

"Waaah! It's so goooood!"

"You say that about anything sweet." As I continue to eat the nostalgic meal I made, Milim finishes hers making her ask for more. Given I already made enough I just decide to make some out of thin air with [Hermetic Reality] and keep eating. We have a small casual conversation with Milim asking me about my previous life. It wasn't that impressive but she seemed interested. My life was pretty average and boring before I came here outside of my whole, building a rocket to Mars thing at the end of my life. Not exactly something that someone would label as interesting but Milim seemed to enjoy it. After we finish I tell Milim, "So, do you think it's time we go?"

"Hm? Uh, yup!"

"Great. Then let's go." We walk out as I take one last glance at the picture. I see the same red-eyed demon for a split second as I look at my sister in the picture. The two are definitely connected. Maybe…no, I shouldn't get my hopes up.. If I meet her again, I want it to be a surprise.
