Minutes later, Daji and I storm into the inn, where I call an emergency meeting of the entire inn, to be held in the ballroom. Guests too.
Maybe this is reckless, but given what has just transpired, I have to do something, and I'm not going to take this sh*t lying down.
Daji hands Della over to Gram and asks her to watch the child. No fool, Gram immediately takes Della, no questions asked.
Silence dogs Daji and me on our way to the ballroom, with Kryptosia, the ex-cop, behind us. For someone who just got her walking papers and got screwed, she seems ... peaceful.
"I'm sorry," Daji murmurs to her.
"It was a long time coming," Kryptosia says, and doesn't elaborate. "There are some principles ... some people ... worth risking everything for."
"Well, while the inn still stands, you always have a place here."
