Prince Ewuare's voice was low and serious as he spoke to Vode's mom, Oma. "I can tell you for a fact that It was an Iwin, a vengeful spirit, that killed your husband. It must have been seeking revenge against the King, my father and since your husband was the king's first son, it didn't hesitate to harm him."
Vode's ears perked up, hidden behind the door. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Royal blood flowed through his veins? His mind raced with questions.
Oma's voice was firm defending her husband's memory. "But my husband denounced the throne, and you know that. He left his hometown after a heated argument with his father, the King. And since then we have been living a quiet life here, away from the palace and its politics."
Vode's eyes widened as he processed this new information. His father, a prince? What did it mean? And what was this Iwin that killed him? Definitely not human, so it's not something the police could handle. And how could he find it?
Oma's voice broke through his thoughts, urging the prince to leave. "Well I think you need to go, Prince Ewuare. For I fear for my families safety. This Iwin may come for me and my son next."
The prince nodded, leaving behind gifts before departing with his sons. Ozare cast a sly glance at Vode, his voice dripping with mischief. "You should know I like that friend of yours, Idara. She looks innocent."
Vode's eyes narrowed, but Ozare just smiled and followed his father. Oma turned to Vode, her expression firm. "And you young man need to go back to school, i'll be fine here."
With a mix of emotions he agreed, he packed his things and headed back to school the next day, but his mind still reeling from the prince's revelation, he was lost in thought. Idara had left the night before, at least he knew he could count on her support. A mysterious journey was just beginning, and the creature the Iwin as it was called was only the start.
