Soon enough the source of my discomfort was revealed when the Helios space station was attacked. An ex Dahl army group led by a Colonel Tungsteena Zarpedon who called themselves the lost legion. The station was not ready for an assault on it at this scale and was overrun nearly instantly. Jack who was apparently in charge of the station had managed to send out a group of five people to the moon and hide himself in the station from the legion while they almost immediately turned the massive superweapon in the station on the moon itself.-
"You know, now that I see it in action myself maybe I shouldn't have given that eye to Hyperion." I said as I looked at the purple and blue laser carving into the surface of the moon.
"Oh no what gave you that idea?" Mordy asked sarcastically.
"Okay but to be fair here Hyperion isn't the one who is using the big ass laser so really they lived up to the trust so far." I said defensively.
"Not even you believe that." Brick said and I sighed.
"Yeah I know, still what do you want me to do about it? The laser isn't aimed at our friends so really why should we even care?" I asked with a shrug.
"Figured you'd just want to use it to get rid of your boredom." he said and I shook my head.
"I'm not bored so much as impatiently waiting for Atlas to finally finish thrashing about on it's deathbed. All of my long term plans rely on me grabbing that company and rebranding it with my name. Until it finally reaches the point I can however I'm in the awkward fucking position where i'm fully prepared and thus have nothing important left to do." I said helplessly.
"You could always just wait it out on Athenas with Maya." he pointed out.
"I could but Pandora is where I'm most comfortable ironically. Besides it's not like I have nothing to do here, just not anything pressing." I said with a shrug.
"Think Lil and Roland are working to stop that laser?" he asked changing the subject back to it's original topic.
"Pfft! No! They are on vacation. So long as it doesn't bother them they probably will just ignore it. It'll bother Roland like hell though, guys too nice sometimes." I said with a chuckle.
"Ha! Yeah!" Brick agreed with a laugh.
With that settled I chose to keep an ear out on the situation on the station and moon. Other than that I kept at my work cleaning this planet up while fortifying my material stores. To my surprise Moxxi set in motion a plan to destroy the laser once and for all as she apparently thought something was wrong with him too. The part that made me frown though was that she apparently intended to fake cooperation before dealing this blow.-
It was conniving and foul to me as I was a firm believer in settling things straight on rather than nasty like this. Still she, Lil and Roland were adults who could make their own choices and live with the consequences. Yeah you could imagine my surprise in learning she had somehow managed to convince those two to help her with her plan. They were just playing the part of mercenaries though so all of the nastiness of this plan still fell on Moxxi squarely. I had to admit that the "vault hunters" Jack had been using to combat the legion and take the station back over were good though. -
Wilhelm was a brute with an addiction to replacing his flesh with tech and as a result the strongest of the lot. Then came my old ally Athena herself who had chosen to take up the occupation. After that was Nisha, an outlaw who hunted bandits before deciding on a change of pace apparently. She was a skilled gunslinger not much different from Clay which I could appreciate. Then came the least favorite of the bunch, one Baroness Aurelia Hammerlock. That's right THAT Hammerlock. She was his sister and while just as posh in speech and sharing his thrill of hunting differed in all other regards.-
She was cold and calculating with a superiority complex the size of the moon she was walking on at the moment. Additionally she HATED her brother and tried her hardest to inflict as much mental anguish on him as possible. All in all a real bitch. After that was Jack's doppelganger who had apparently been surgically altered to look like and sound exactly like Jack. This one was just weird in my opinion as Jack was a mere programmer so why the fuck did he even NEED a body double, made no sense at all.-
The final member of this posse made me realize something was VERY wrong, A Claptrap unit. Not just any old unit either but one with specs that looked eerily like my own modifications to the bots I owned and was loaded with combat protocols and stair covering wheels. The Scavs being killed by this thing somehow recorded and uploaded it in action on the echonet which is how I knew this thing was a flat rip off of my idea. This made me suspicious about Jack as he was apparently the one who made this Claptrap. While it was possible that Jack could have had the same idea as me the changes were too similar.-
I knew by now that the angel was working for someone in Hyperion but this made me think it may have been Jack himself. The angel definitely knew about the modification plan for Claptrap units since I explained them to my friends outside my house and it would explain what I was seeing. This also explained what the strange feeling Jack gave me was about. If he was the guy behind the angel it made perfect sense. -
This would be the same guy that used us to open the vault to profit off the Eridium that would pop up as a result and then got me all the Eridian research Hyperion had in exchange for the Destroyers eye. He wasn't some polite programmer alone but a sharp minded and manipulative man as well. I wasn't offended by discovering this and if anything was genuinely impressed. It took big heavy balls to pull strings like this and then act like nothing happened when you "officially" meet the one whose strings you pulled. ESPECIALLY when that person was me.-
Anyone not aware of what I can do might have that kind of confidence but if this guy was the one behind the angel then he likely had VERY good knowledge of the sort of existence I am. That knowledge alone should be enough to make most people shrink away from me but I shook his hand when Moxxi introduced him. He cracked jokes and even geeked out about my engineering skills. He was either that confident I wouldn't figure him out or had much bigger balls than it seemed. I had a feeling Moxxi was going to come to regret this plan of hers soon enough.
