Chapter 90 - Part 89

The plan was set, the pieces of the puzzle coming together. It was no longer a matter of survival or simple revenge. I could feel it in my bones—the game had changed. This wasn't just about tearing down a corrupt organization anymore. No, this was something deeper, something darker. Zenith had become a mirror, and I was ready to shatter it.

Mara was still working on finalizing the details of Voss's location, but I could see the exhaustion on her face. She was focused, her mind moving at lightning speed, but she knew as well as I did that this wasn't just another operation. This was a turning point. The closer we got to Voss, the more I felt the weight of the inevitable collision.

The underground lab. That place—it had been my nightmare. The place where my darkest impulses had first gained form. The place where I realized who I truly was, what I could become if I let the hunger consume me. It had been a place of twisted experimentation, a breeding ground for chaos. And now, it was time to finish what I had started.

As we prepared for the mission, I felt my mind slipping again. The hunger clawed at me, growing with every second. I couldn't deny it anymore. The darkness inside me was far from a simple desire. It was becoming part of my identity, shaping me in ways I couldn't control. I was walking a tightrope between maintaining control and succumbing to the chaos within.

"Are you ready?" Alan's voice snapped me back into the present. His eyes were searching, almost knowing. He could tell. He always could.

"Ready," I said, my voice cold, emotionless. I wasn't sure if I was lying to him or to myself. But it didn't matter anymore. There was no turning back now.

Mara finally looked up from her screens, a grim expression on her face. "I have the coordinates. Voss is there. But the lab has been fortified since the last time we were there. We'll need to be careful. They know we're coming."

I nodded, my eyes hardening. "Careful doesn't matter. We don't have time to be careful anymore. We need to strike first, take them down before they even know what hit them."

Alan gave me a look, a quiet warning in his eyes. But he didn't argue. He knew as well as I did that we had already crossed a line. There was no going back.

We moved quickly, slipping through the city's streets under the cover of night. The air was thick with tension, the streets empty as if the world itself held its breath. As we neared the location, I could feel the hunger inside me stirring, urging me to act. The closer we got, the more it consumed my thoughts. The mission, the need to stop Zenith, everything was a secondary thought to the desire gnawing at me.

The underground lab was a fortress. We knew that. It was a place of experimentation, a place where they twisted and reshaped lives to serve their needs. But it was also my personal hell. The memories of what I'd learned there, of who I had become, made every step feel like a step into my past—a past I had buried, yet couldn't escape.

We reached the entrance to the lab, a hidden door buried beneath the foundation of a dilapidated building. The familiar sense of dread wrapped around me like a cold hand. I glanced at Alan and Mara, both of them preparing for what was ahead. Their faces were set with determination, but I could see the unease in their eyes. They knew this was no ordinary mission. This was something else entirely.

"Once we go in, there's no turning back," I said, my voice low, the words heavy with the weight of the moment.

Alan gave a sharp nod. "We know."

Mara adjusted her gear, pulling up a map of the lab's layout on her tablet. "We need to move fast. Voss is likely to be in the central control room. But there could be traps. Security systems, backup teams. We can't afford to waste time."

I met her gaze, my eyes dark with intent. "Then we won't waste time. We go straight for him."

We moved into position, the door to the lab creaking open as we entered the cold, sterile corridors of the underground facility. The air was thick with the smell of chemicals, the faint hum of machinery echoing through the hallways. It felt like stepping into a tomb—a place where humanity was twisted into something unrecognizable. A place where I had once felt a part of the darkness, a part of the experiments that had shaped me.

I could feel the presence of others in the facility, faint whispers of movement, the shift of shadows as guards went about their duties. But they didn't see us, didn't know we were there. We were ghosts, moving through the darkness with a single goal in mind.

The hunger was almost unbearable now. It was all-consuming, the desire to unleash everything inside me, to break free from the chains that had held me back for so long. I could almost taste the fear of those who would stand in our way.

We moved swiftly, following Mara's directions. The central control room was close, just a few more turns and we'd be there. But as we approached, the silence of the lab was shattered by a sudden alarm. A high-pitched wail echoed through the hallways, warning the entire facility of an intruder.

Alan cursed under his breath. "They've found us."

"No," I said, a dark smile curling on my lips. "We found them."

With that, we surged forward, adrenaline pumping through our veins as the final confrontation loomed ahead. The hunger inside me, the desire to break free, was now a roaring fire. I couldn't hold it back any longer. The walls of the lab were closing in, and I was ready to burn it all down.

We reached the control room, and I kicked the door open, ready to face whatever—whoever—was waiting for us inside.
