Chapter 259 Food Poisoning?
The soft noise of cloth rustling, plates clinking, and the occasional splash of water created an ambient atmosphere. After Aleshia swallowed her bite of fish, she replied, "Yeah, Lucia and I stored some food before we entered the city while we were traveling. I think it was great that we were able to eat it before it spoiled. Plus, thanks to our magic, it lasted much longer."
"Hmm, and when do you remember catching these fish?" Rebel asked curiously as Daniel brought some fish to her mouth.
Aleshia pondered for a moment before tapping her head, admitting, "I'd guess it would now be close to a month ago."
Daniel nearly dropped his fork, and Rebel almost spat out their food in shock at Aleshia's statement, but restrained themselves, given their circumstances. After closely inspecting their fish, they found no signs of rot or decay that could lead to food poisoning.
"So you really stand by that estimate? Because this fish certainly is not anywhere near decomposing. How astonishing!" Rebel exclaimed in disbelief.
Aleshia attempted to provide an answer that would make the most sense to Rebel. Based on what she had observed, Rebel didn't seem like the type to study magic. Aleshia figured that, at the very least, Rebel would only know as much about magic as an average person would. "I suppose you could sum it up as magic keeping the fish fresh," she said. "Anyway, I should let you know that Jonah woke up again last night. I also cured two other people, including Fayre. However, I didn't catch the name of the other person I cured; he seemed a bit distraught about the alliance and how they wouldn't allow a place like this to operate if it wasn't up to code or some such." Aleshia shared her recent activities with them.
"Oh, that's right! Daniel did say Aleshia had also cured Jonah. But why isn't he up here with us? Didn't he get cured around the same time as I did? And isn't it great that Fayre is also joining us soon? This is excellent news, isn't that right, Daniel?" Rebel said exuberantly.
Daniel replied, "Yes, this is excellent news, as it also means we will have her magical abilities and frontline capabilities in the coming weeks. With the added knowledge that the rest are to recover, we will be able to use their knowledge and skills for the betterment of the camp.
Aleshia, regrettably, interrupted their moment to ask, "What can you tell me about the alliance the guy mentioned? I'm not sure I want them meddling. I briefly met them on my first outing outside this place when I was with Tristan Rey and Em. The group we encountered seemed to know each other well, but they were quite strict about their roles and appeared focused on following procedures despite their friendliness."
