Chapter 8 - Investigating

Kodak sat down on the stone cold floor of the cave, feeling the effects his body was undergoing. Kuroi looked down at him, seeing that his abilities were vastly superior than previous showcases of his powers.

"Amazing," Kodak thought to himself. "To think honing my revenant core would amplify my abilities to this level."

A few minutes ago...

Kodak felt Kuroi's hand on his back, feeling his revenant clash against the seal. "Any luck, Kuroi?" He questioned.

Kuroi's face frowned as he removed his hands from Kodak's back. "About five percent was released, but I do any further than that." He said with a frustrated face. "It's probably the system stopping me from interfering with your growth physically and spiritually."

---

Kodak then snapped back to the present upon hearing Kuroi's voice.

"Focus, Kodak!" He said loudly. "If you are this lackluster with training on the first day, then how could you even hope attending the Nexus school?"

Kodak focused his mind and body, trying to control himself. "Focus, I need to focus and hone my revenant core." He thought to himself. "I've lacked behind everyone else, so I got to training my ass off to catch up!"

A certain reminder than flowed in Kodak's mind. "Azar. He's probably training as well for the entry exam. And the same goes for Fumiko." His face then softened as he thought of Fumiko.

The thought of them seeing each other warmed his heart. Just even thinking about her amplified his resolve.

"FOCUS!" Kuroi yelled. "OR DO I HAVE TO USE MY TECHNIQUE AGAIN!?"

Kodak then shook his head in denial at Kuroi's threats. "No, I just need to focus. And I will focus!"

Kuroi then stared at Kodak, seeing his fiery gaze attempting to pierce through him. "Good, you shouldn't slack off then."

---

But while Kodak trained, Kenzo was investigating the boulder that his nephew had encountered. "So it's not just some rock." He said to himself. "I've struck this thing countless times, and yet I've only scratched. I know I haven't been as active, but come on I am an S-Ranker!"

Kenzo then placed his hand onto the boulder, feeling both the internal and external materials of it. His eyes glow a teal green as a message from the system appeared.

[Skill: All-Seeing Gaze Activated!]

Kenzo then struck a cocky grin upon activating the skill. "Now let's see what you are made off."

A blue glow from the system's interface then shined onto his face. [Access Denied!]

Kenzo's eyes widened and a shocked expression plastered over his face. "But that's impossible!?" He said to himself in shock. "So does that mean there's a rank higher than S-Rank!?"

Kenzo then activated the same skill over and over and over. Trying his hardest to focus, and push past it. But he was met with only a message from the system.

[Materials are unknown!]

[You cannot access the secrets of the Destructive Battle Arts!]

Kenzo groaned in defeat as his skills, strength, and innate technique had no affect at all. "This boulder is strange," He thought to himself. "But what's even stranger is the mention of Destructive Battle Arts. I haven't heard that ever since my fight with one of the lower tier thugs associated with the 'Revenant Killers' a few days ago."

Kenzo's mind then thinks back to a few days prior to him reuniting with Kodak and Akuma.

A man with an animalistic mask dressed in jeans and leather crawled away on the ground, groaning in pain as he held his leg. But his determined struggles to live only left a further trail of blood. The fear then began to settle in faster, quicker, and more intensely than before.

Kenzo then appear instantly in front of him, wearing a costume of black and darkened gold. His face was covered by a mask. A mask that had the same symbol, one of a dragon with a golden blade.

The thug slowly looked up, seeing the horrendous amounts of bloodlust coming from Kenzo. Fear plagued the man's mind as he felt Kenzo grabbing him roughly by the front of his leather jacket. "W-wait I know you!" The man said in a fearful tone. "Y-Y-You're the man who almost killed Ryujin Gushiken! The Gale Dweller!"

Kenzo then stared at the thug, striking a gaze that could be felt throughout his entire body as he spoke. "So you know what happens to those who don't corporate?"

The thug shook his head up and down rapidly. "Y-Your rumors about how you love killing those deserved to be murdered have spread from Seoul, Korea to Tokyo, Japan. People are scared to even walk around at night!"

Kenzo then smirked at the man he fiercely grasped. "Good to hear I'm getting more popular, but you should start talking. NOW!"

The thug then trembled, not even able to speak as tears and snot dripped down his pathetic face.

"Where are the Revenant Killers!?" Kenzo spoke in a dark, angry, and terrifying tone. Only for the thug's fear to be amplified by the intense pressure he felt through the wind.

"I don't know anything man!" He said in a terrified tone. But as the man said those words he could feel the wind speeding up gradually. Howls of the night sky whistled through the empty rooftop he had the man captive on. Almost like the night was warning the thug of his fate.

[Innate Skill: Wind's Grasp Activated!]

The man then fell to his knees, not being able to breath. "What did he do to me?!" He thought to himself as the fear of not being about to take a breathe from his lungs. His arms and legs flailed around, trying his best to escape his attacker's grip.

Kenzo then flash a green hue of teal as he looked at the thug menacingly. "You either nod that you have information, or you shake your head that you don't."

A dark jagged dagger was then unsheathed from Kenzo's side. "Now, you are gonna tell me what you know once I deactivate my technique. If you stay quiet I will kill you. If you try to struggle I will kill you. If you disrespect me I will kill you, now speak you damn mutt."

The burglar then feels oxygen rushing through his body, and the feeling of relief washes over him. He's then dropped harshly onto the ground as he looks back up, seeing Kenzo standing above him menacingly.

His eyes then meet with his aggressor's. "S-So what do you want to know?" The man stutters as he starts to feel Kenzo's revenant radiating like a raging hurricane.

"The Revenant Killers," Kenzo said sternly. "do you have any kind of information on the six pillars?"

"No, none of us lower tier rankers within the clan have anything on the 3 divisions of pillars." The thug's eyes then widened in fear as Kenzo's body began to light up teal once more, and the air screamed.

The thug scrambled through his thoughts, trying to think of something was useful. Until it struck his mind. "But one thing I remember is--"

Clapping then echoes on the rooftop. Kenzo and the thug's eyes dart over, seeing a main dressed in a trench dark brown trench coat. "Well done." The man spoke out loud. "You were actually able to bring me Gale Dweller."

The man then smiled as he looked at Kenzo. "Where are my manners?" He said sarcastically. "My name is Glitch, but my friends call me--" He then stops mid-sentence. "No, wait wrong name. My name is Satsujin. But my friends call me Jin."

Kenzo's senses screamed at to run, not because of his inability to win. But because for the first time in his life he felt fear. Fear from this overwhelming strength that radiated from Satsujin's revenant.

The thug then took a knee for Satsujin. "Welcome back, Glitch Sovereign. Did you find what you were looking for?"

Kenzo's head turned towards the thug, confused. But as he looked at him, he saw the thug wink at him. "Is he getting information?" Kenzo thought to himself. "Didn't think he had it in him."

"Hey, boss. Did you hear anything about the other sovereign's?" The man spoke once more.

A loud snapping sound then echoed across the rooftop. Kenzo looked at the thug's body, seeing the body had been decapitated almost instantly.

Blood leaked from the ripped neck, staining the floor of the rooftop with a crimson hue. Kenzo's eyes then widened in shock as he heard Satsujin's voice right behind him. That cold and harsh tone that froze Kenzo right in place.

"The weak never truly know their place, don't they?" Satsujin asked him. "But then again the Kawanari family was always so stubborn on protecting those unfit to even be born."

The wind then began to howl and scream as those harsh words exited Satsujin's mouth. fear then began to dissipate as anger quickly replaced it.

"What am I doing?!" Kenzo thought to himself. "I might be scared, but nothing could b=make me more scared than the thought of the weak being taken advantage of."

[Innate Skill: Storm of Aeolus Activated With Anger!]

Gusts of wind then surrounded Kenzo's body as he turned around, facing Satsujin with glowing teal eyes. Anger fills the air as the wind get more unpredictably violent.

And a sense of nervousness creeps up Satsujin's back. "Kawanaris' really are terrifying. Just one mention of trampling on the weak make you so damn angry and bloodlusted. Even those with the Destructive Battle Arts technique."

Kenzo then comes back to the present as he takes off his coat, revealing a dark metal arm in his left. "This was just the aftermath of standing up to Satsujin. To think he'd take my left arm."

But as Kenzo thought about how badly he missed his arm, he then smiled a cocky grin. "But he lost a lot more than just an arm when he tore mine off!"

An image then flashed in Kenzo's mind, an image of him tearing through Satsujin with his I.R.T and tearing out an arm, ear, and even an eyeball. "But one thing that surprised me was the fact he was able to unleash an attack that couldn't be healed by Agony. Must be a thing that requires Repaired Will."

Tokyo, Japan 6:56 PM

A woman and man walked through the streets of Tokyo. The woman's hair was long, voluminous, and white. She also seemed to be wearing a dark blue hoodie, with some black jeans, probably complimenting her stylish dark brown boots. Her face had no makeup, and yet she had a type of beauty only a few had in this world.

The man wore a dark cheviot jacket, covering a white Henley shirt. He also was wearing dark grey sweats and some navy blue sneakers. His hair was blonde, and medium length. Almost like a crewcut, but just a little bit longer.

"Kurenai, you nervous?" He asked the woman. "I mean we are newly recruited members for the 3rd division of Revenant Killers."

The woman then smiled at him, before placing a gentle kiss on his lips. "We'll be fine, Ren." She said confidently. "After all, we were praised for being top of the list. Not just in attitude, but power!"

Ren then smirks at her. "Well now I'm motivated to be better."

The two of them then walk through a brick wall, passing through it almost effortlessly. The scenery was like a warehouse, except it was filled with all kinds of weapons, firearms, blades. But Ren quickly notices something.

"These weapons house I.R.T," Ken exclaimed. "and it's not just simple abilities neither, Kurenai."

Ren then points at a generic axe, with the only notable thing being the dark material being made of obsidian. "For example, look at that obsidian battle-axe."

"Yeah, what about it?" Kurenai bluntly says. "It's just a battle-axe."

Ren then stares at Kurenai with a deadpan gaze. "It harbors an I.R.T"

Ren's eyes draw closer to the sword as he edges closer to the blackened axe. It was like the weapon called to him.

"Why not give into it?" The voice called. "After all, you've pushed around so much that you deserve to treat those the same way. So give into your urge, and go wild."

Ren's hand then reached out as Kurenai attempted to him, but as he did a voice called out to them across the room. "I would advise you not to touch that weapon, nor any of these!"

Kurenai and Ren are then met by a woman dressed in a black and white suit. "Jeez, this thing is way too tight." She remarks while tugging on the collar of her suit. The woman then clears her throat upon looking at the two of them. "You two must be the new recruits from the list we reviewed. Follow me to our division leader, Ryoko Yorikane."

Kurenai and Ren are then escorted across the secret base as their excitement grows bigger and bigger upon hearing the name "Ryoko Yorikane".
