Chapter 13 - New Faces

Kodak walked down the hallways of his high school, accompanied by Fumiko. "You notice how the principle was?" He asked curiously.

Fumiko then crossed her arms as they walked down the hallways, pondering. "Hmm, can't say I recall much about him." She said in an unsure tone. "Did you notice something?"

Kodak nodded his head. "Yeah, before I left he was just a normal man. But something must've happened pretty recently to him."

"Like what?" Fumiko said curiously.

Kodak scratched the back of his head, trying to figure out an answer. "He has revenant now, but what surprised me most, was that angry side of his powers dwelling deep inside him." Kodak's face then frowned, concerned for Akira. "It's like some type of powerful flame is being suppressed within him."

Fumiko pondered with a frown on her face. "But would that mean his power is much more ferocious than yours?!" She asked in a shocked tone.

Kodak nodded. "Yeah, but what's even crazier is that just seeing his stature, and attitude made me realize that his potential is on the same level as my father, Shiro Kawanari."

Fumiko's eyes then widened, and stopped right in the middle of the hallway. "But that's impossible!" She exclaimed. "Ever since the dawn of time there has always been limits to a person's revenant potential. But you're saying he could be a level similar to your father!?"

Kodak smirked at Fumiko's shocked expression. "Yeah, but don't get it twisted. He isn't on the same strength as my father. After all, my father became something way beyond an S-Ranker almost two decades ago."

Fumiko's head slightly shook as her surprised expression didn't cease. "Honestly, I don't even know how the Kawanari family grows to be that powerful."

Fumiko's face then turned soft as she then looked back at Kodak. "And yet, you stay so gentle and kind." She thought to herself.

She then began walking again down the hall of the school. Kodak quickly followed her to a classroom titled: A-2

The two of them then saw multiple students, and a single teacher teaching the room about revenant.

The teacher was accompanied by two other students. Ones Kodak, and Fumiko knew quite well.

One boy, one girl. Their names were Ashiro Tensai, and Kohaku Sato. Two main contributors to the student council. Kohaku was clean, quiet, but strong-minded.

She wore the typical school uniform with a few accessories. A school badge, and a hair band that kept her black hair in a messy bun.

Ashiro was slightest different though. He had the same school uniform all the guys did, but no badge, unlike Kohaku. His hair was very dark shade of brown. But his face has strange scars and marks all over him. You could see just from his rolled up sleeves, that he was some type of elemental user. Burn marks stretched all across his arms, but all of them seemed to be fading.

His eyes were black, just like Kodak's, but his eyes had a complex look. Like he was always thinking about something in his head.

The teacher then called out the Kodak and Fumiko. "You two are almost late," He called out in a blank tone. "get to your seats."

Kodak and Fumiko walked down the same path, until they found a pair of two seats in the back of the classroom. Their bags were placed on hooks as they finally took their seats.

"Introduce yourselves," The teacher called out in the same boring tone. "I don't care how."

Kodak and Fumiko just stared blankly, but still did it regardless. Fumiko stood up first, trying to get over the introduction. "My name is Fumiko Haruka, I am a second year, and I love meditation along with sweet foods. My I.R.T makes me absorbing energy from the moon, and stores it later. I have created about three skills. One innate, and two revenant types."

Kohaku then smirked at Fumiko's introduction. "She's good," She thought to herself. "simple, yet descriptive."

A male student then raised his hand, quickly gaining Fumiko's attention. "I have a question." He said in a calm, moderate tone.

"What's your question?" She replied while looking at him.

"Is there any other ways you've thought of using your I.R.T?" The student said curiously.

Fumiko thought for a moment, pondering on ways utilizing her technique. "Not really."

"Could you explain?" He asked in a curious tone.

"No," Fumiko replied bluntly. "I think that's enough questions from you. Besides I'm not that interesting."

The student slumped back in his seat, wearing a defeated expression.

"Anyone else?" Fumiko said while looking around the classroom. Only to hear nothing but a deafening silence across the classroom.

She then sat down, and the attention shifted to Kodak. The pairs of eyes pierced their curious gaze onto Kodak, but he ignored them.

He stood up from his seat, and dusted off his pants. "Kodak Kawanari, second year at this school. My I.R.T makes a core of kinetic energy that is fused with my revenant cores. I can create constructs, amplify my physical body, and even create blasts of energy if I wanted to."

The students looked at Kodak even more intensely, feeling like he had more to offer.

"I have also created 4 innate skills, and 2 revenant skills." Kodak said while continuing his introduction, but as this happened. The room then burst with excitement.

Kohaku and Ashiro weren't particularly interested in Kodak, but his announcement of his skills shocked them deeply. Their faces then shifted from relaxed, to a serious and analytical stare.

However, Ashiro's gaze was vastly more serious than Kohaku's. His eyes then showed a burning determination as his perspective on Kodak changed.

"I knew he was a prodigy." Ashiro thought to himself. "But to have developed so many skills within the last months has proved him dangerously powerful."

"How long have you been training your revenant?" A young female student blurted out loud.

"About a month." Kodak replied.

Ashiro's eyes then widened as he heard Kodak's response. "Only one month!?" He thought to himself loudly. "It takes a prodigy by today's standards to create 3 innate skills in a month. 6 skills in total should take nearly double the time!"

The teacher then stood up from his resting spot. "Alright that's enough. Take out your notebooks and copy these notes."

---

5 hours later...

Kenzo stood in a room, seemingly waiting for something. "What's taking so long?" He said impatiently.

But those words left his mouth, felt his phone buzzing. He swiftly removed his phone from his back pocket, and answered the phone. "You get any answers, Akira?" He asked in a worrisome tone.

"I did, Kenzo." Akira with a worried look in the other side of the phone. "The murders have a pattern, and some revenant users investigated the scene. The murders happen every other week, and are targeted towards people who show great potential, or show their an obvious threat. They found traces of barrier technique."

"So what?" Kenzo said in an unbothered tone. "Barriers are much to me. I can smash through it no sweat." He said while opening and closing his fist tightly.

Akira shook his head. "No, you can't." He said firmly.

Kenzo's face frowned. "What do you mean I can't?!" He said in a confused tone.

"It's a barrier formed from a revenant contract. We were also able to find out about the conditions due to some witnesses." Akira in an upset tone. "It forbids people of A-Rank or higher from entering, but the only the attackers can come and go as they please."

"How did you find the conditions?" Kenzo asked with an even more confused tone.

"A local A-Ranker was unable to enter when he heard the murdering happening, but he saw two hooded figures entering and leaving with he saw it." Akira explained thoroughly.

Kenzo's hand scratched the back of his head. "How long until the next target is hit, and where is it located?"

Akira's face then went pale as he realized the new location. "Three days, and it's located at my school."

Kenzo's face then enveloped with shock, and anger. "WHAT!?" He shouted angrily. His face began sweating nervously. And his body tensed with fear for Kodak.

"How strong are these people?" Kenzo said in a serious tone.

"High B-Rank to probably low A-Rank." Akira said while tightly gripping his phone. His body pulsed with fear, but not for himself. But for the school he so graciously looked after.

Kenzo then sighed deeply as he heard the words from Akira. "In that case I need to count on you then, Akira."

Akira's eyes widened with shock. "What!?" He exclaimed furiously. "Why me of all people?!"

His face tensed with anger, and self-doubt. "You know plenty of people who are vastly experienced, and capable than me. So why me!?"

Kenzo shook his head as he heard Akira's yelling. "Cause you are far stronger than you know. That's why I trust you. I only hope you trust in yourself with protecting the school."

Akira then frowned as he heard Kenzo hang up on him. "What does that mean?"

But as Akira began to ponder on Kenzo's expectations for him, a call then rang from the phone in his office.

"Hello, this is President Akira speaking." He answered boldly.

"Sir it's them again!" One of the bloodied and battered security guards said on the other side. "The arrogant trio from the other school is trying to fight other students in their after hour classes again!"

Akira sighed a deep breath of annoyance. "Get Kodak Kawanari. I want to see his current strength. Make Ashiro intervene if needed."

---

Kodak sat in the classroom, alone. Everyone else had left for the day, but he stayed for extra hours. Mainly for helping the lone janitors, and seeing if he could get extra credits for certain classes he wasn't too fond of.

Foot steps then echoed through the seemingly quiet hallway. The pairs of steps overlapped each other.

[Skill: Combat Sensory Activated!]

[A group of three people have appeared in hallway!]

Kodak looked at warnings from the system with shock. "Intruders?!" He thought to himself. "But who would wanna break into this crappy school?"

A blast of revenant then destroyed a portion of the classroom's entry wall. Kodak jumped from his seat, just barely dodging the blast.

As the dust settled he saw three male students, all wearing casual attire. The students seemed to be third years, mainly from the facial features they had.

The first student had a slightly tan tone of skin with fluffy dark hair. He also was wearing some red sneakers with a black and red zip-up jacket. Which was also accompanied by some black jeans.

The second and third student had similar outfits, but the second student had blonde hair and a dark blue flannel. While the third, and final student had black hair, and a bright orange hoodie.

Kodak smirked at the group of students. "So what do you I call you?" He asked in a sarcastic tone. "The bundle of idiots?"

"No wait, I got it!" Kodak exclaimed. "You guys are probably called the 'Moronic Three.' I mean come on. Your fashion sense is so damn inconsistent!"

Kodak then started laughing at the the group, causing them to look at him crossly.

The first student stepped forward, with a particular pissed expression. "Watch your damn tongue!"

A red shade of energy then encased his body, and a swift strike was thrown at Kodak. A surprised look then spread across Kodak's face as he blocked the punch.

The ground then cracked underneath him as he blocked the attack. But something was off.

"Why does my arm hurt so badly!?" Kodak thought to himself as the crushing pressure from his opponent only increased. "I know blocking doesn't reduce the pain completely, but his revenant feels like a serrated weapon!"

Kodak then heard a loud crack below his feet. "Shit!" He groaned under his breath. "I don't know if the fifth floor can hold us!"

[Innate Technique: Kinetic Force has been activated!]

A surge of dark blue aura surrounded Kodak's body. The air became tense, and the the student that was crushing him was starting to lose.

[Innate Skill: Siphoning Charge Activated!]

"What the hell!?" The student exclaimed with a shocked expression. "Just fall dammit!"

But as Kodak got pushed against harder, he then let go of his opponent. He then maneuvered around, and delivered a punch straight at the student's face.

[Innate Skill: Tenfold Burst activated violently!]

The floor of the classroom was then completely demolished as kinetic radiated around them.
