Chapter 3 - The Brutal Showdown

People gather in their seats. Chatter and mumbling commenced as anticipation filled the air. Friends talk amongst one another. Excitement fills the stands as the chattering only grows louder with every waking moment.

But then a loud voice echoed through the arena. A man dressed in vibrant colors holding a microphone. "GOOD MORNING! ARE Y'ALL READY FOR THE FINALE OF THE 50TH REVENANT MARTIAL TOURNAMENT TO COMMENCE!?"

The crowd roars upon hearing the announcer's voice. Excitement fills the air further as the announcer smirks upon hearing the shouts of needing a proper event.

"In the blue corner, standing at around 6 feet and 3 inches. He's a vile fighter and boasts of an even more vile innate revenant technique. Give it up for the vile rejection of the Tento family, Azar Tento!"

Lights then flash on a walkway of a tunnel to the left of the stadium. Revealing Azar walking down it. He wore a black and yellow gi that had a symbol of a spear radiating with lightning. His hair seemed to be styled like a modern mullet—short sides with some decently long hair on the top and back.

Azar smirked a cocky grin as he looked at the top of the stadium, seeing the Tento family, the Haruka Family, and the Kawanari family sharing a large number of seats. His mother, Jia Tento. An elegant black-haired woman dressed in a black and gold dress that glowed vibrantly within the flashy stands.

He then looked at the dark, yellow-haired man next to his mother. Jeong Tento, his mentor and father. The suit he wore was a traditional black and white suit, worn in a proper and just manner.

Azar then frowned and looked back towards the ground, cursing in his head. His sister hadn't shown up again.

"And here I thought she would show up for once," Azar said to himself, quietly.

The crowd then erupts with both jeers and cheers for Azar Tento. It made him lift his head as he looked back at his mother and father, smiling with overconfidence.

Jeong smirked at his son, feeling proud of his son. "Azar, you and I were shunned from the Tento clan upon your birth. It led me to neglect you; it drove us apart," Jeong thought to himself. "But when you finally awakened your abilities, you changed. You became more ruthless, powerful, and even built up the confidence to pursue being a leader of the Tento clan."

Jeong's head then turned to look at Jia. Her beauty and majestic fashion were ethereal to be even near. But despite having a name of elegance, and a beauty unrivalled by most. She was no different than a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Jia then looked up towards Jeong, looking at him with disgust. "If you think that this so-called 'strength' Azar has gained is enough to overtake his older sister. Then you're more stupid than that thing you consider your son."

Jeong's jaw then flexed in anger, causing veins to burst from his forehead. How could a mother hate her own son that much?

That's the question that pulsed in Jeong's head so vividly. But deep down he knew why him and Azar were hated by the Tento family so immensly.

"You still blame Azar for that accident, don't you?" Jeong asked Jia with a stern, and harsh tone.

Shiro then turned his towards the Tento Family, hearing their yelling. "Jeez, they do this every year. You think they'd get along for once." He muttered to himself softly.

He then stood up, ready to step in to stop the loud arguing of the Tentos. But before he could, the announcer's microphone kicked up again.

"And in the red corner, standing at around 5 feet and 9 inches tall. Weighing in at about 189 pounds. He has no supernatural abilities, no tricks, just pure hands and feet. He puts belt to ass, give it up for the 'Powerless Son of the Strongest' Kodak Kawanari!"

Lights then flicker onto the other walkway, revealing a black gi that had a dragon emblem on the back of the uniform. Kodak's black eyes then looked around himself, seeing and hearing the stadium roaring his name. No jeering, just straight up cheering could be heard from the seats of the people watching.

Kodak then looked up at the top of the stadium to look at his father. "Don't worry dad. You don't have to worry anymore about me being a powerless weakling." He thought to himself.

He then looked back at Azar as they both entered the arena, facing each other with intense stares.

Kodsk then though back about his mother and sister. He was sad that they couldn't be here in person, but being bedridden was not optional. "Mom, Akuma. I hope you're watching my fight in the hospital right now. Cause I'm gonna make history."

Azar then scoffed upon looking at Kodak. His face was confident, focused, and unshakeable. Or at least it seemed to be.

"I hope you give me somewhat of a decent, Kodak. I hate for your bedridden mother and sister see you lose after coming all this way!"

Azar's tone was mocked Kodak. It mocked everything he stood for. The hellish training Kodak went through just to even have a chance against low rankers was demotivating.

But it's different than before. He thought deeply to himself about the message from the system. That image still lingered immensely in his mind.

Kodak then lifted his head up, and glared at Azar. "You know for a bottom feeder who's worth is nothing more than a immature fighter. You sure are acting like you can amount to anything in your pathetic life."

Azar's eyebrows then raise themselves, surprised by Kodak's witty comebacks. "Don't think just cause you can shit talk, means you can win. I mean how could the eldest son of the Kawanari family be born without an ability!"

Kodak then started laughing at Azar. His laughter got louder with each passing second.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Azar's skin then crawled as he began to feel a sense of easiness. Why was he laughing?

"Psychotic bastard," Azar uttered as the laughter continued. "How can you even laugh so maniacally like that!?"

Kodak's laughter then stopped. Blue sparks of lightning then crackled around Azar's body.

The announcer's voice then kicked up again, relieving some of the animosity and tension going down in the arena. "Looks like our competitors can't contain they fighting spirit. Why don't we give them some more space!"

A referee then walks up to the arena, and taps the ground. "Expand, growth, and change."

The stadium then starts to shake widly. But not enough to harm anyone within in the building. Walls and floors start to expand as the referee's body then began to glow a light shade of amber.

Kodak and Azar stood still as the arena expanded. Seconds quickly by as the arena continues expanding. But as it begins to finish up it's process of enlarging itself, a whistle could be heard from a second referee. And then a voice of commandment.

"BEGIN!"

Azar's legs then press into the ground, launching him forward. "COME ON, KODAK! LET'S FINISH THIS STUPID RIVALRY ALREADY!"

[Innate Skill: Thunderstorm Aura has activated with excitement!]

A swirl of twitching blue currents of electricity then vibrate around Azar's body. His body tingled with excitement as he rushed forward.

Kodak then puts up his guard, trying prepare for the oncoming assault from Azar. "Here he comes."

Azar then brings back his fist, and attempts to strike Kodak. Sparks of blue lightning crackled along his fist as he smiled a wicked grin. [Electrifying Arts, 2nd Form: Lightning Blitzwave!]

The lightning along Azar's fists then begin to fade into a different color. From the erratic azure, to a crimson red that almost looked like blood.

Kodak's eyes then flash purple as the punch is thrown.

[Kinetic energy is being absorbed into your body!]

[Kinetic Energy Pool: 50/50]

Kodak then ducks under the attack as it grazes his left cheekbone, leaving a small cut.

Azar then jumps back. "He's trying to counter!" He thought to himself. He knew better than anyone that Kodak can think on his feet and deliver counter attacks even from the simplest glance of his opponent's fighting style. That's just how dangerous he was.

Azar then looks forward after landing on his feet. But as his eyes face forward he focuses on Kodak. He knew rushing in blindly was not an option. But his opponent didn't even an I.R.T. (Innate revenant Technique).

Kodak in his eyes was powerless bug, just waiting to be crushed ruthlessly. But as he stood still trying to predict Kodak's next move, sparks of a strange energy then traced across the black and grey stone tiles of the arena.

Jeong and Jia of the Tento family look down at Azar, confused. Their son used blue lightning and shockwaves created from his I.R.T.

But this energy that traced the along the stone tiles was a darker shade of blue, almost violet. And it wasn't in the form of lightning.

In fact, it almost seemed to flow and bend like water. The energy was calm, yet Azar could tell that this strange power wasn't to be trifled with. The energy was dense, almost like a wall.

But what happened next shocked Azar to his very core. His eyes widened and twitched in anger as he opened his mouth to shout at Kodak.

"THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!?" Azar yelled in a tone that eluded both anger and shock.

Shiro then shot up from his seat, tearing off the armrest he gripped tightly. Tears of joy then fell from his watery eyes.

"Kodak, you did it.." Shiro mumbled to himself. "You told me that I didn't need to worry anymore. I didn't need to worry about that fear creeping deep within my heart."

Shiro then shouted from his seat, radiating with excitement. "KODAAAAKKKKK!!!"

His excited scream echoes through the arena, surprising the Haruka family, the Tento family, and the crowd.

Kodak then hears the shouting from his beloved father. His heart began to beat faster. Tears of relief flowed down his face.

His face wore a look of accomplishment, and atonement. Kodak had finally had done what he was striving for.

"But that's only the first step of my goal," Kodak thought to himself deeply as a pensive frown then spread across his face. "The next step is learning about my I.R.T!"

Shiro's voice then boomed across the arena as he screamed towards Kodak in excitement once more. "STAY TRUE TO YOUR PROMISE!"

Kodak turned back to face his opponent with an expression of confidence and astonishment. He smiled as he opened his mouth to speak towards his opponent.

"Looks like I can't let my old man down. It's time we ended this petty rivalry. Once and for all!"

Azar's face and muscles then tensed with anger. His thoughts ran wild. His anger, jealousy, greed, and fury towards Kodak was climbing higher.

Blue sparks of lightning then travelled along his body, but something was different. The lightning then began to flicker.

Kodak's body was then surround by the dark blue sparks of kinetic energy around him. It was powerful, yet peaceful.

Azar's lightning then changed into a dark crimson hue. His eyes then radiated with the same crimson sparks.

But then, almost like thunderstorm. Azar's voice roared throughout the arena. "DON'T START GETTING A COCKY ATTITUDE CAUSE YOU UNLOCKED SOME SECOND-RATE ABILITY!"

[Thunder Veil, 2nd Form: Lightning Blitzwave!]

The crimson sparks then spread to Azar's legs, causing him to speed forward with tremendous speed and power.

His bloodlust filled the air as his fist flew through the air, only a few hairs away from Kodak's face.

But something was different. Kodak could see the lightning. He could see the blue crackling energy. But what he also saw was that Azar seemed slower.

Kodak then raised his right hand, blocking Azar's attack. Bolts of energy crackled from the two fighters.

The darkened blue kinetic energy coming from Kodak lashed out, keeping Azar's lightning at bay.

It was like watching a thunderstorm of azure-colored energies clash against each other. The air then began to vibrate as Azar's hand was gripped tightly by Kodak.

"Looks like you're head-on assault didn't work. Is that all your attacks are? A good-for-nothing attempt at being relevant?"

Kodak's words cut deep into Azar, deeper than any kind of wound, injury, or even insult his mother threw his way. It pushed him to that very limit.

"SHUT UP!"

[Innate Skill: Thunderweb activated!]

Azar's left hand flicked through the air, spawning a large web from his wrist. The blue bolts of lightning that were woven together than trapped his opponent.

And upon touching said webs, Kodak fell to his knees as he felt his legs and arms going numb.

"He paralyzed my arms and legs!?" Kodak thought to himself. "I can barely even move my body. I can't even feel as much as a twitch from them!"

Kodak's entire body then collasped as the web forced him onto the ground further. His ears rang as the shocks of electricity were too great. He couldn't even hear.

Azar then looked down on Kodak as the webs then dissipate. "Y'know this skill wasn't easy to create. I had to condense and reform nothing but pure lightning into a complex, yet effective web." Azar bragged with a cocky grin on his face. He then placed his shoe, stepping on Kodak's face.

The crowd then watched as Azar's foot then raised, stomping on his opponent's head. But not just once, he repeated the action. Doin it over an over again.

"DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD JUST AWAKEN NEW ABILITIES AND FACE A C-RANKER RIGHT AWAY!?" Azar screamed at Kodak with a psychotic look in his eyes. "I MUST SAY YOU'RE A SAD AND AN EVEN MORE PATHETIC DREAMER, KODAK KAWANARI!"

Azar then stopped his yelling and stomping. He then pulled back his leg, revealing a bloody bruises all over Kodak's face. One of the injuries was a diagonal gash that spread across Kodak's nose and left cheek.

Azar then kneeled down and whispered into Kodak's ear. "And here I thought the only pathetic one's were those limp vegetables of the Kawanari family. They should have just done away with those pitiful lives and killed themselves!"
