The backup squad moved swiftly along the forest path toward the border of the Land of Fire and the Land of Grass. Kakashi's eye shifted to Yuma while they were traveling.
"Yuma," he said calmly, "that speed you showed when you cut down the Waterfall shinobi—it was far beyond what I've seen from you in our spars. What's behind that sudden increase in speed?"
Yuma's beautiful smile caught Kakashi off guard, and a faint blush crept onto his cheeks.
He silently thanked his mask for hiding his face. After a brief pause, Yuma finally spoke. "I've recently developed a new method to boost my speed with chakra. The downside is that it puts a lot of pressure on my body because my chakra control isn't perfect yet. If I push it for too long, I could end up hurting myself."
Kakashi nodded in understanding, while Gai burst out laughing and exclaimed, "HA, HA, HA, NOTHING LESS EXPECTED FROM ONE OF MY ETERNAL RIVALS."
Kakashi blinked a few times before turning to Gai with a puzzled look. "Sorry, Gai, did you say something?"
Might Gai's jaw dropped as he pointed a finger at Kakashi and shouted angrily., "DAMN YOU, KAKASHI, AND DAMN YOUR HIP AND COOL ATTITUDE."
Yuma giggled at their antics and said to Kakashi, "Actually, Kakashi, it's thanks to Gai that I came up with this method."
"A few days ago. When we sparred, he told me about Lady Tsunade's fighting style and how she uses her incredible chakra control to power up her strikes."
Both Kakashi and Gai were surprised when they heard this, as were the others who were listening to their conversation.

Kakashi's eyes widened in surprise, and he chuckled. "Well, I'm impressed, Yuma. If you decided on becoming a medical ninja, I have no doubt you'll accomplish remarkable feats."
Yuma paused to think about Kakashi's words before speaking. "It's too early for me to think that far, Kakashi. I enjoy being out in the field more anyway. I'll think about your proposition when we return to the village."
Everyone who heard Yuma speak was impressed, and they resumed their journey toward the border.

"Alright, everyone, go settle yourselves in the camp. I'll go meet Shikaku-sama to announce our arrival."
The entire backup squad nodded at Kakashi in acknowledgment of his order. Yuma followed Gai as they made their way toward the camp.

Shikaku smiled upon seeing Kakashi and said, "Kakashi, it's good to see you arrive safely. I received a messenger hawk from Lord Hokage not long ago, and he told me that your team was ambushed."
Kakashi smiled, nodded, and said to Shikaku, "Thank you, Shikaku-sama."
Shikaku nodded and said to Kakashi, "Have a seat. This is going to be a drag, but I need to explain to you what's happening right now."
Kakashi chuckled softly, took a seat, and turned his full attention to Shikaku.
"Lord Hokage has sent an envoy to the Hidden Village of the Grass to negotiate an alliance. If talks go well, I expect we'll soon secure that alliance — and be able to force Iwa and the Hidden Village of the Waterfall to retreat."
Kakashi looked surprised and asked, "What makes you so confident that we can succeed in forcing the shinobi of Iwa and the Hidden Waterfall to retreat from our border?"
Shikaku smirked and explained, "The Hokage dispatched an ANBU squad to demolish Iwa's supply base. If their mission succeeds, the supply base will be gone and Iwa will have no choice but to retreat."
Kakashi frowned, a trace of doubt in his voice. "What if the Hidden Village in Waterfall shares supplies with Iwa? Things could spiral out of control if that happens."
Choza and Inoichi nodded grimly, but Shikaku remained unfazed. He said to Kakashi, "I've thought it over, but there's no way a small village like the Hidden Village in Waterfall could have the capacity to supply both Iwa and its shinobi."
Kakashi nodded in agreement after hearing Shikaku's explanation, and they began discussing new strategies in case Iwa and the Hidden Village in Waterfall launched a surprise attack tonight.
After finishing their strategizing, they left the tent and held a meeting with all Konoha shinobi assigned to the night watch.
