"I was thinking of visiting this weekend," Thea said, rising from Elizabeth's embrace.
"Has Ryder called you?"
"We spoke a few days ago." Thea replied softly.
Elizabeth grinned. "I've practiced a few new dishes. Would you like to be my taste-tester?"
Thea smiled, clearly excited.
Later, in the kitchen:
"Is Aunt Jane not around today?" Thea asked, glancing at the empty breakfast table.
"Jane's away for the month on holiday," Elizabeth replied, setting out ingredients. Just then, her phone rang. "Could you stir this for me while I take this call?" she asked, handing Thea the spoon and stepping aside.
"It's Ryder.." Elizabeth said, returning quickly after seeing the missed call.
She pressed redial.Her eyes glowed with warmth, the corners crinkling in a smile as she listened for her son's voice on the other end.
"Hmm... Eating well? "
"That's good.... Okay..."
Elizabeth paused, then her eyes widened.
"What? Really?" she burst out, clearly taken aback in a delighted way.
