Chapter 861 - Chapter 861: A Human Shield and an Expected Outcome

The fact that Ahmanet was so easily restrained by mercury made William feel both relieved and suspicious.

He couldn't help but recall how, in the movie, the British secret organization had captured the mummy princess—not to destroy her, but to use her as a tool to locate the Jewel of Set.

And the moment the gem was found, Ahmanet had effortlessly escaped.

That made William wonder: was the mummy princess trying to pull the same trick on him?

Was she allowing herself to be captured just to lure him out from behind the scenes?

Thinking this over, he decided it was best to be cautious—after all, there was no longer any doubt that Set was a real demon god.

"Sunday, tell Captain Marvel that I found a way to restrain Ahmanet using mercury, based on the fact that she was submerged in it for 5,000 years. Now, we just need her to come finish the job."

"Understood, sir."

"Wait," William hesitated, then added, "Forget it. I'll say it myself—just relay my words to Carol. I don't want any miscommunication."

---

A few kilometers away, Carol was still lowering the damaged airliner when Sunday relayed William's message to her.

After listening, she grinned and asked, "So how confident is that coward Devonshire that this plan will work?"

Hearing Carol call him a coward again, William rolled his eyes.

Still, considering that Captain Marvel was now his human shield, he calmed himself and had Sunday respond,

"Based on my calculations and the intelligence I've gathered, Ahmanet remained in a dormant state for 5,000 years while submerged in mercury.

Therefore, using this logic, Mr. Devonshire estimates a 71% chance of success.

However, if you personally execute the plan, using your speed advantage, the success rate increases to 90%.

That being said, Ahmanet has now found the Dagger of Set.

If you want to restrain her, you must finish securing the plane and get to the church immediately.

If she escapes, we may lose track of her completely."

Carol considered the situation for a few seconds and quickly realized that the plane, already with two gaping holes, couldn't withstand a rapid descent—any sudden maneuver could snap it in half.

Frustrated, she asked, "And you're sure this plan has a 71% chance of success without me?"

William burst into laughter.

He knew that phrasing it this way would tempt Carol.

Of course, that 71% was nonsense—Ahmanet was already completely subdued.

Now, all he needed was for Carol to show up in front of the mummy princess.

After all, Captain Marvel was a solo act, and with her unmatched power, she shouldn't be afraid of Set's schemes.

The only real concern was whether Set might try to invade her consciousness and take control of her body.

But William had countermeasures for that, too.

"Of course," he said smoothly.

"Ahmanet is currently trapped inside a 20-square-meter room—this is the best chance to strike her.

If she escapes into an open space, it'll be nearly impossible for anyone other than you to stop her from transforming into a sandstorm."

Carol, though pleased by the compliment, wasn't completely blinded by flattery.

However, she still underestimated artificial intelligence.

Thinking that Sunday lacked self-awareness and couldn't deceive her, she trusted the data and quickly decided:

"Then execute the plan! Even if it fails, at least keep an eye on her. I'll be there in a few minutes."

"Understood, Ms. Danvers," Sunday replied.

After a brief pause, she added, "Mr. Devonshire has approved a space teleportation request.

Modified mercury drones and spider bots are being deployed and should achieve results within 30 seconds."

Hearing that William was teleporting his drones over, Carol smirked.

"That coward is finally being useful for once."

---

Thirty seconds later

Carol, still supporting the airliner at a height of 100 meters, was carefully preventing it from breaking apart when Sunday's voice returned in her earpiece:

"Ms. Danvers, I am pleased to report that our plan was successful.

Ahmanet has been subdued by the mercury and is now immobilized inside the church.

What would you like to do next?"

"How confident are you that she won't escape?"

Before Sunday could answer, Carol's mind flashed through several possibilities—

And she quickly realized that it was safer to see for herself.

"If you're sure she's secured, I'll finish landing the plane and head to the church."

"Understood, Ms. Danvers. I will continue to monitor Ahmanet and notify you immediately if anything changes."

"Good."

Satisfied, Carol safely landed the airliner in an open field outside London.

Without wasting a second, she shot into the sky, heading straight for the church.

At that moment, William, already cloaked in a Hogwarts invisibility spell, watched as she arrived at the church like a streak of light.

Seeing her blazing speed, William's desire for her abilities grew even stronger.

However, always the type to keep a backup plan, he suddenly asked Sunday,

"How long would it take to build a Sentinel X suit?"

"Sir, using Skrull DNA as a foundation and modeling it after your Mark armor, the X-type Sentinel suit would require only 20 hours to manufacture.

However, I must warn you—it has never been tested, and using it immediately could present unknown risks."

William, of course, understood this.

But if he ever fought Captain Marvel, he felt it would be much safer to have the X-type Sentinel armor on hand.

"Forget the risks—just build it."

With that, he turned his attention back to the church.

Through the Mark armor's holographic display, he watched as Carol entered the altar room, where Ahmanet was restrained.

The moment she stepped inside, Ahmanet's eyes burned with fury as she snarled,

"You cowardly scum—you dared to ambush me!"

Carol simply shrugged.

She was a former U.S. Air Force pilot—in aerial combat, ambushes were just standard practice.

Besides, Ahmanet had used hostages to escape earlier, which wasn't exactly honorable either.

"You think I'm gonna play by knight's rules with a demon?"

Carol raised an eyebrow.

Her gaze then locked onto the Dagger of Set in Ahmanet's hand, and a grin spread across her face.

As she stepped forward, she said,

"What, should I have let you escape and murder more people?"

Without hesitation, she snatched the dagger from Ahmanet's grip.

However, the moment she laid eyes on it, a powerful consciousness surged from the blade—

And pierced directly into her mind.
