"Bruce!"
In a fleeting moment, Kara's heart sank to the depths.
Also witnessing this scene was the consciousness of Doctor Fate, who had come alongside Kara.
At this moment, Doctor Fate fell silent. Though he had prepared himself, seeing this scene still stirred mixed emotions within him, and he was at a loss for words for a while.
Kara showed no sign of slowing down, diving rapidly toward Batman and the monster's location.
Her speed was incredible, and in the blink of an eye, she was already near Batman.
However, just as Kara was about to use her bio-field to slow herself down, an eerie radiation suddenly overwhelmed her. The Kara in her prime was momentarily struck with weakness.
The sudden change startled Kara, but she reacted quickly, spinning to absorb the impact and landing firmly in the snow, creating a jagged mark.
Getting back on her feet, Kara frowned deeply as she looked at the spear.
She had encountered it several times before, and she knew exactly what it was—the spear was made of Kryptonite, a substance that severely weakened and destroyed Kryptonians.
"Could it be..."
Her gaze lingered on the massive monster's corpse, and her frown deepened.
Since Batman had used the Kryptonite spear, there was no doubt that the monster's origins were tied to her home planet, Krypton.
But in Kara's memory, Krypton had been destroyed long ago, and the surviving Kryptonians had all perished at General Zod's hands. There shouldn't be any Kryptonians left on this world.
Moreover, just from the appearance of this creature, Kara could tell it was not from Krypton. The creature's form was completely different from what any Kryptonian could look like.
"What is this thing?" Kara clenched her fist, but she knew now wasn't the time to dwell on these matters.
Doctor Fate quickly acted, using a small fragment of his Nabu-powered abilities to throw the Kryptonite spear into the ocean.
With the Kryptonite radiation gone, Kara felt her strength return. She didn't inspect the monster any further and quickly moved to Batman's side.
"My condolences."
Doctor Fate's somber voice echoed in Kara's ear.
He and old Bruce Wayne were old friends. Both were aging heroes, and they knew that one day this moment would come.
The moment they became superheroes, they had essentially cut off any chance of a peaceful retirement. That idyllic life in their old age was always a fantasy, something that only existed in comics or storybooks.
Kara glanced at Batman and said softly, "He's still alive!"
"What?!"
Doctor Fate's voice trembled.
Earlier, when Doctor Fate had seen this scene, he had already written off Batman's fate.
To fight such a terrifying entity, Batman, an ordinary man growing old, could only hope for a mutual destruction. It was an incredible feat just to make it this far. Moreover, from Doctor Fate's foresight, Batman was not supposed to survive this encounter.
He never imagined that Batman was still alive.
"He's barely holding on," Kara muttered to herself as she scanned Bruce Wayne's condition with her X-ray vision.
"His ribs are broken in four places, and his left arm and both legs are severely injured."
"The worst part is his spine. Bruce's waist is completely shattered, and he may never walk again."
"Just being alive is a miracle. This world owes him too much."
Doctor Fate's voice carried a mixture of relief and happiness at the survival of an old friend. While he had always had his differences with Batman, in his heart, Kent didn't dislike Bruce Wayne.
"Luckily you got here in time. If we can keep Bruce alive, with the technology in the Batcave, we might have a chance to save him. If not, we can use magic, but we need to deal with these demonic entities first."
While Doctor Fate was rambling on, Kara suddenly sensed something.
Her pupils narrowed, and her expression hardened.
Kara slowly rose to her feet, her fists clenched tightly, ready to strike and obliterate everything in her path.
"What's wrong?" Doctor Fate noticed Kara's movements and asked, puzzled.
Kara didn't respond. She simply turned her head and looked toward the direction of the ruined Kryptonian ship behind her.
The Kryptonian ship had already been partially destroyed by the collapsed glacier. Amid the visible ruins, a black stone tablet was glowing with eerie energy.
Beneath the tablet, two Mother Boxes were quietly embedded within it, only half of their black forms visible.
Behind the tablet, a rippling, bluish energy composed of boom tube was slowly opening, and several imposing figures appeared on the other side of the portal.
Staring fiercely at the leader of the figures across the sonic portal, Kara's eyes burned with killing intent.
"Darkseid."
Though there were some differences from the Darkseid of Apokolips, the familiar energy signature made Kara recognize him instantly.
Earlier, when Alex and I fought together, we couldn't get the better of Darkseid. Now, facing Darkseid alone, Kara's expression became much more serious.
She had already had some suspicions when dealing with the parademons earlier, but when she truly saw Darkseid, her mind couldn't help but be filled with complexity.
There was no denying Darkseid's power. After all, he was the ruler of the New Gods, a terrifying existence capable of threatening the entire multiverse. However, Kara felt no fear. She even took two steps forward, facing Darkseid directly across the boom tube.
As Kara locked eyes with Darkseid, he too stared back at her.
Darkseid wasn't surprised that Kara recognized him. After all, he had conquered countless worlds and left his legend on many planets. It was natural that this girl had heard of him.
What Darkseid didn't understand, however, was why a Kryptonian appeared on Earth out of nowhere.
According to the information on the Steppenwolf, the strongest fighters on this planet were merely two ordinary people who had inherited the powers of the Old Gods, and the most troublesome one was just a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
Moreover, the Mother Box hadn't issued any alerts about Kryptonians before, which caused Darkseid's mindset to shift slightly.
Sensing that Steppenwolf's life force had dissipated, Darkseid frowned slightly. Then, he cast a meaningful glare at Kara.
In the next moment, the boom tube slowly closed, disappearing into the air under the watchful eyes of Kara and Doctor Fate.
Darkseid had left.
But neither Kara nor Doctor Fate dared to relax. Neither of them spoke, simply staring at the spot where the boom tube had vanished.
After an unknown amount of time, Doctor Fate's voice slowly emerged.
"...It seems you recognize the person we just saw."
To this, Kara only nodded slightly. "Darkseid, ruler of the Apokolips, and the mastermind behind this attack. The monsters in Wayne Manor and those parademons were all his doing."
The information Kara shared was something Doctor Fate, as the emissary of the Lord of Scrolls, already knew. However, judging by Kara's earlier actions, he was surprised that this young girl wasn't meeting Darkseid for the first time.
From Kara's gaze when facing Darkseid to her reaction earlier, Doctor Fate could tell she had faced him before.
And it seemed like they had even fought.
But thinking about it, it wasn't that strange. The terrifying combat abilities Kara had displayed earlier had already proven her strength. Perhaps only a being of this level could stand against the legendary New God.
"How is Wayne Manor?" Kara shifted her gaze to the nearly unconscious Bruce Wayne.
"Steppenwolf is dead, and the remaining parademons won't pose much of a threat. The three new arrivals, they should have come with you, right?" Doctor Fate said.
Kara nodded, not denying it.
"Don't worry, the war is over. Fortunately, we didn't suffer too many casualties here. I'll open a portal and bring you and Bruce back."
The number of casualties in Steppenwolf's invasion was staggering. Over thirty female warriors had died on Paradise Island, and from Tula's memories, Atlantis didn't fare much better.
But Doctor Fate deliberately focused on the fact that "we here" hadn't suffered too many casualties, as such details could affect morale.
Kara, however, didn't seem concerned about that. She just shook her head faintly.
"The war isn't over."
Darkseid had already set his sights on this planet, just like he had on Earth in the Apokolips War universe.
Kara could never forget what Darkseid had done to her cousin Clark from another universe, including the Earth that was doomed to destruction. If it hadn't been for Alex and the others in the League, that universe would have been lost.
Now, the catastrophe had come for her universe, and Kara couldn't shake the feeling that a storm was approaching.
Things had escalated to the most critical point. If they couldn't help Flashpoint Earth overcome this crisis, their world would inevitably follow the same path as the Apokolips universe.
And that was something Kara never wanted to see.
Her eyes drifted over the vast, white snowfield, and Kara understood that this wasn't something the four of them could handle alone.
To protect this universe, they would need more hands!
