Chapter 4322: The Purple Gold Phoenix Summoning
Pang Qi strode quickly toward them, his face wearing a warm smile, with even a hint of flattery in it.
As the City Lord of Fallen Feather Seventh City, all the Phoenix tribe members within bowed in respect as he passed.
"Greetings, City Lord!"
Even Pang Jing greeted him respectfully, while Pang Qi merely gave a light hum in acknowledgment, the difference in status between them obvious.
Pang Qi then turned, smiling, and asked:
"What were you talking about?"
Pang Jing quickly answered:
"Daoist Lin was asking about ways to travel through Chaos, perhaps to visit other domains."
Pang Qi laughed.
"I see. As it happens, I have here a Guidance Tower for navigating the regions of Chaos. Allow me to gift it to Daoist Lin."
He withdrew a small, three storied tower. Pang Jing's eyes narrowed slightly as she saw it she understood at once this item was far from ordinary. Lin Moyu himself sensed its great worth.
But Pang Qi pressed it forward insistently:
"Daoist Lin, please do not decline. Your contribution to my clan far surpasses the value of this tower."
Seeing his sincerity, Lin Moyu accepted it without further politeness.
Pang Qi then explained its use.
The Guidance Tower was essentially a map of the more public zones of Chaos.
In Chaos, many great races and sects opened "public regions" similar to Fallen Feather World. These areas functioned as meeting points, trade grounds, and places to strengthen mutual networks between clans.
But the ancestral grounds of each race remained hidden. Only a fool would expose their true home, lest endless calamity be invited.
If a public region was destroyed, it could be rebuilt. Such places were expendable. For example, Fallen Feather World itself: refined from a shattered domain, by King Luoyu. Its loss would not truly endanger the Divine Phoenix Clan only tarnish their pride.
Through the Guidance Tower, Lin Moyu could now locate such public regions. And it was in these regions that the Supremes' cross domain arrays were built. If Lin Moyu wanted to use them, he would have to travel there.
As for how long each journey would take on the way much depended on individual strength. None could estimate precisely.
Lin Moyu put the tower away.
"My thanks, City Lord Pang. By the way, I heard there was an external Perfection cultivator discovered in Central not long ago?"
Pang Qi's face grew solemn.
"It was not so much discovered, as he slipped in secretly. He went unnoticed until later, when he suddenly went mad, roaring wildly. He was discovered then, and a group of Great Completion cultivators gave chase."
"The Supremes' decree is clear: any outside Perfection intruding into a domain must be slain on sight. Bringing down such an intruder even earns reward from the Supreme."
Lin Moyu's expression shifted slightly.
"And he escaped?"
"Yes," Pang Qi said with reluctant respect. "I don't know how. But he did escape. Still, even so, those who fought him were granted reward by the Supreme."
His tone was filled with envy.
Lin Moyu probed further.
"The Supreme is generous, then?"
Pang Qi's eyes gleamed.
"Indeed generous. The reward was Primordial Water Essence. To gain even one drop means your bloodline will be sublimated!"
The phrase struck Lin Moyu like thunder. Primordial Water Essence.
His heart gave a sudden thump for he himself still possessed a drop, unused.
Both Pang Jing and Pang Qi, merely upon mentioning its name, grew visibly excited. The reverence in their faces was telling. Clearly, its value was above even the Purple Gold Fruits.
Lin Moyu feigned calm curiosity, asking lightly:
"And what exactly is Primordial Water Essence?"
Pang Qi seemed eager to explain.
"It is wondrous. It has no grade, no level, yet it uplifts the very foundation of one's origin. Any cultivator can use it, and it carries no drawbacks or side effects."
"The higher your cultivation, the more potent its effect. To waste it upon a weak beginner would be a crime. But for those at great heights, it is beyond measure."
To Pang Qi, it was nothing less than cultivation's supreme treasure.
Hearing his words, Lin Moyu confirmed in his heart: indeed, his droplet was exactly this.
But then why had the White Robed Elder, one of Chaos' Supremes, spread such treasures across the Origin Continent at all? To him, the Origin Continent was insignificant, something he could erase with a thought. So why reward its cultivators with this essence?
That question could not be answered unless asked at the source, directly.
Lin Moyu smiled politely.
"Perhaps one day you, too, will earn such a reward."
Pang Qi roared with laughter.
"Ha! From your lips to the heavens, Daoist Lin! I only dream of such fortune. Supreme rewards are nigh impossible to obtain. An event like what happened recently hasn't occurred in countless years."
"Unless..."
Lin Moyu inquired softly, "Unless what?"
Pang Qi's face hardened.
"Unless war erupts between the domains. If such chaos comes, any great military merit against outsiders would be rewarded."
But then he smiled again.
"Still, let us hope that day never comes. Too many great ones would perish in such disaster."
As they walked, they reached yet another vast plaza. Floating platforms drifted in the air above, cultivators endlessly dueling before roaring crowds.
Lin Moyu glanced briefly, but his gaze carried little interest. He already comprehended the truth of the platforms, the hidden runes measuring potential for the Purple Gold Fruit.
Pang Qi noticed.
"Daoist Lin seems uninterested in this contest?"
Lin Moyu smiled thinly.
"If fate grants me a Purple Gold Fruit, it will find me unbidden. If not, no effort will force it."
Pang Qi laughed heartily.
"Daoist Lin is no ordinary man indeed. Come, then. Let us go to witness a true spectacle. Today holds one of the grandest events of the Three Phoenix Festival."
"Oh?" Lin Moyu asked lightly. "And what is this spectacle?"
Pang Qi's eyes lit with anticipation.
"It is called the Purple Gold Phoenix Summoning.
"It is held twice every century of the festival, once at its beginning and once at its end. And it so happens, this century's Summoning is here, in my Seventh City. And it happens to be today!"
Lin Moyu chuckled.
"What a coincidence then. I truly must see it."
Pang Qi gestured grandly.
"I already had the best seats prepared. Daoist Lin, please!"
Guided by Pang Qi, they passed through half the city until they reached its heart.
There rose an enormous altar. Upon it stood three enormous phoenix statues, each a hundred thousand meters tall, wings spread to the heavens.
Crowds thronged, kneeling reverently before the statue of the Purple Gold Divine Phoenix, chanting hymns whose words Lin Moyu could not decipher.
Before the great statue lay mountains of Chaos Gold, piled in offerings.
As the chants rose, the statue of the Purple Gold Phoenix began to faintly glow, soft light spilling across the entire plaza...
