"What? So I was right; you can't just go over to a girl's house randomly or let her stay over at your place randomly" I grinned, eating a scoop of ice cream with relish.
"Oh? You're one to talk," Heather smirked, picking up her ocha and taking a sip.
"Hey, Chris and I…oh right…oh gosh," I said, realizing what she meant.
"Anyway, yeah, you're right, one should definitely not sleep over at the house of someone they find attractive," Heather said, sweeping my Chris-problems aside " So you know the night of the karaoke, Amber took me home?" Heather said.
"Oh yeah, I remember Chris said she helped you to Amber's car, and then… she made a pass remark about how Amber seemed a little too eager to take you home… she was worried that Amber might do something to you, so she said she'd call you in the morning.
"Ah, well, at that point, it was too late; Amber already did something to me," Heather murmured, staring at her tea and sighing.
"What? What happened? Do you need me to call the police on Amber?" I asked, reaching across the table.
"What? No! No, it wasn't," Heather said, looking up startled, then sighed " Well, I mean, I was drunk, so can I really say it was consensual?" Heather said and leaned on the table, propping her head up.
"Oh no, how far did things go?" I gasped.
"Quite far, and to my surprise, Amber is quite the person to take charge after hours. I think by the time Chris called me the next day, there was no saving me from Amber's hands," Heather said sheepishly.
"So fire her…wait, you said you were falling for her…so date her, like what do you want the next step to be?" I asked, confused.
"Well, being the boss and all, I feel that it might be a bad example to date one of my employees. I'm always going in on Ruby about it; if I do it, won't that give Ruby the green light to go hog wild on everybody?" Heather said and sighed.
"Huh, I see. Well, I think it would be best to sort things out between you and Amber, and if you two see yourself in a committed relationship, then maybe let everyone else know so that there is no confusion?" I suggested.
"Yeah, well, that's the thing. Amber doesn't want a committed relationship. She made it very clear that we were something called semi-friends, and now, I don't know how to face her.
I thought bringing her along today and seeing how she was outside of the workplace would give me some idea of how to approach this, but she seems to behave as if everything is normal and nothing happened between us," Heather said, leaning back and staring at the ceiling.
" What if I quit? Maybe you can take over the accounting department, and I can go do some soul-searching for a while," Heather added with a sigh.
"Heather, that is way too extreme of a reaction to being…semi-rejected. Besides working is your life, do you really think you can leave behind Ms. Jun and the café? This business is your baby; you and Ms. Jun have been running it since day one. Don't let your conflict with Amber destroy everything you've worked so hard for," I said, feeling so sorry for Heather; she looked so pitiful, staring up at the ceiling like that.
