Her voice was venomous, a frightening smile splitting her face in half like a mask of death.
More tears fell from the old master's eyes as he stared at her, haunted by the thought that perhaps, just perhaps, he had failed her too. If he had protected her better, maybe whatever darkness possessed her wouldn't have taken hold. But it was too late now. His poor boy would bear the weight of this murder.
"I'm sorry, Shane, my boy," he whispered. "I'm sorry. I'll be leaving you in this world with such a venomous woman."
Sophie laughed, loud and crazed.
"Yes, remember that, old man! I killed you. Me, Sophie, your son's wife, killed you!" she screamed.
The sword in her hand slashed through the air, and in one clean arc, it sliced through the old master's neck. His head detached from his body and fell with a sickening thud to the floor, blood spilling and splattering in all directions.
