"Never!" He hissed, it sounded so villainous, so unlike him.
His handsome features twisted, expressing an almost psychopathic possessiveness; his eyes burned with determination and something more, something she can't quite put into words.
This wasn't Harrison. Delilah's eyes narrowed.
There was a stretched moment of silence.
Honestly, she had nothing to say. She could only stare blankly at the boy who once loved her existence, now glaring at her like she was the source of his pain and bitterness.
How did it come to this?
"Ha...Harri.." She tried to call his name but the aura oozing from him was enough to make her clip her mouth shut.
Tears slid from her eyes, her resolution crumbling before him. She doesn't want to show any weakness, any vulnerability but it was the look in his eyes, the pain in his voice.
She reached out to touch him, however he moved away, letting go of her hand.
He looked down at her, his heart aching.
What just happened? What the f*ck has he just done?
Her tears were like needles, piercing his heart. He caused it, it was his fault. Why would he do that?!
The voices in his head only kept increasing, his tall figure stumbled back, his hands fistful with his hair.
The voices, her tears, her sob, those fearful eyes that stared at him like he was a beast...maybe he was, maybe he was a monster.
"Argh!" Harrison bellowed, he made for the door and left, leaving a stunned and exhausted Delilah behind.
She slid off the bed, barefooted as her fair feet graced the floor.
She crouched down in the darkness, hugging her legs, her head rest against the wall, her eyes were unfocused, staring out at the only source of light in the room.
The moonlight peered into the room through the window as if it was serving as a friend in despa, it shone into the room, creating incarnate patterns on the floor.
A tear slid from her eye, how did it come to this? She asked no one in particular.
Delilah's eyes wandered and she was transported back to the day she first set foot into high school...
Standing stiffly before the school gates,
Delilah watched absentmindedly as the senior students strode into the school wearing varieties of expression- some were tired, reluctant, joyful, sullen, slothful and more, there was too much to read.
She is clad in a midnight blue skirt and white shirt school uniform.
Her silky straight dark hair that ran down her shoulders seems to dance softly with the wind.
Flawless white socks and shoes that gleamed with the sun, the pompom strapped to her brown bag swayed like it had no care in the world.
Seeing the figure, anyone could guess she was a tad nervous about going in.
The grip on the strap of her backpack tightened; her knuckles steadily turning pale as she nibbled on her inner lip.
Many years ago, the terrorist attack that claimed the life of mom left her family shaken, especially dad.
Only, she didn't know the terrorists had killed her mother; the news was kept from her.
Chen Xiao said mom died of a rare and terrible illness. Mum's dying wish was that she; Delilah should be happy and face her studies.
Calming her palpitating heart, she practiced her breathing exercise.
She took a deep breath. The air around her seemed to shift, filling her nostrils with the rich fragrance of grass and jasmine, coming from within the school compound.
As she exhaled, a wave of comfort and relief crashed against her turbulent anxieties, and there was a moment of peace and tranquility in her mind.
This is a new journey, another beginning, a new chapter of her life.
The next three years will determine her future. This is high school, where she will either succeed or fail; a successful ambition and disappointment are her choices.
She threw her backpack up, squaring her shoulders; resolute and confidence flashed in her eyes.
She will not disappoint grandma, dad, mum, or herself!
"Delilah... Hey Delilah..." a voice shouted; sharp and piercing, from behind, followed by the sounds of hurried footsteps knocking on the ground.
It belonged to the slender figure rushing towards her.
Delilah's relaxed figure standing before the school gates stiffened before she slowly turned her head. It was Bei Xiao Shi, Amy Bei.
Both girls, Amy and Delilah had been good friends since the 9th grade, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't glad Amy was here, attending the same high school with her.
Though, it was more coincidental that Amy was here. Her parents had to relocate from C city to D city to find greener pastures. And she, in fact, was in D city for some oddly personal reasons.
Amy had arrived, "Scared?" with her hands on her knees, she probed, stifling a giggle, her eyebrows wiggling in provocation.
She was panting, breathless, since she ran over the moment she saw a nervous figure lingering by the school gates.
She raised her head and their gaze met.
Delilah blinked, hesitating for a moment, the light in her eyes dying down and she shook her head.
But when she saw the unbelieving look in Amy's raised brows. She knew her lie was futile.
"Mhm mm!" she slowly nodded with lowering her eyes, her lips pulled to a pout.
Amy rose to her feet "He, He!" she laughed out, patting her stomach.
Only a true friend will laugh at your troubles, before reaching out a helping hand?
"Oh come on Delilah, you don't have to be so childish... It is just high school; there's absolutely nothing to be worried about, hm?"
"Besides, what's the worst that can happen? There are no classes for us today either, so let's just live freely till the REAL schooling begins, okay?"
Amy consoled, giving Delilah's shoulder a gentle pat that startled and made her lose balance. It's not her fault, she thought the pat was gentle enough.
" Aiya, so fragile" Amy panicked as she helped her regain balance.
"But what if..." Delilah mumbled, her soft voice was barely audible. She raised her head.
" You'll be just fine, okay? So no what ifs!" A gentle smile tugged on the side of Amy's lips, and her sincere eyes calmed Delilah's anxious nerves.
Delilah's gaze lingered, Amy always seemed to stand tall with bright confidence, her pretty slender frame does well in attracting attention.
Shoulder-length hair framed her face, with bangs that gently brush over her eyebrows.
Her diamond face was a delicate balance of soft yet sharp features, punctuated by a small button nose and pink lips that curved into that gentle smile.
Her feminine eyes, a deep black, sparkled with warmth and a little of subtle kindness, making her instantly likeable.
"That's a good girl," Amy clapped Delilah's back, A LOT gently this time. "Come on, let's go. I'm afraid you'll turn into salt if you stand here any longer, Hehehe!"
Delilah nodded in agreement, her stiff shoulders gradually loosening.
"We'll go check the class list before we move to the hall, I just hope we are assigned to the same class," with that said, Amy held Delilah's wrist and pulled her into the school.
"Ah!" Delilah yelped at the sudden movement, her silky dark hair flew freely with the wind.
Two beauties, who didn't know were slowly gaining attention stood before the class list. Delilah's gorgeous features sunk in disappointment.
Amy noticed and tried to console her. Moving close, she held her hands.
"Daya? It's going to be fine. I...I know we are not in the same class, but we will always be good friends, okay?"
Delilah had her head down, staring at her shoes, she looked like an unconvinced child.
"Okay", she nodded, though unwillingly.
"Good girl! Now stop looking like you just got ditched on your wedding day; you're making people think I'm bullying you," Amy whispered before bursting into laughter.
"Hey!" A sudden gasp escaped her lips as she felt a body press on her.
" Silly, you could just say you want a hug" she flicked Delilah's forehead after she released the hug.
Amy was a good friend, and she loves her like a sister, and glad she was to have her here.
