The final exams were over, and next up was spring break.
(This part really stumped me. The previous chapters dealing with the exams corresponded to episode five of the original anime's first season, where final exams were mentioned. Logically, after final exams, there should be a break, right?
When I checked online, I found that Japan's holidays are summer break, winter break, and spring break. Spring break marks the end and beginning of the school year, usually from March 19th to April 1st, while summer break is from late July to September 1st.
However, episode six begins by stating it's already July, and Yuta and others are still in class, which clearly means they've returned from a break, right?
Then, at the end of episode six, it says summer break is starting?
What kind of break did they have after the final exams in episode five, for goodness sake?
There's no way Kyoto Animation would play a romantic story in reverse for me, right?
...I scratched out several strands of hair. In the end, I decided to arrange the holidays my way.
I am the author! What I say goes! Just consider it a parallel, alternate world!)
Japan has three holidays a year: spring, summer, and winter. Spring break is the shortest, usually only one week.
During this week, Fang Wuwei mostly just signed in and exercised. The system was quiet, and he didn't know what else to do.
One day, he was so bored that he lay on the sofa, staring at the ceiling, not thinking about anything or doing anything.
Although his daily training didn't stop during the break, and even intensified several times, after a while, there was still nothing to do.
So Fang Wuwei decided to go out for a walk, to a farther place, as if on a trip.
But in reality, it wasn't that far.
Fang Wuwei leaned on a bench in a Park, feeling the gentle sunlight on him, holding a glass of juice in his left hand, and stroking a stray cat in the Park with his right, feeling completely at ease. Ultimately, Fang Wuwei had always been an indoor person; even in his past life, he rarely went out during holidays. For him to suddenly feel like going out now was a sign that he was getting older and his mindset had changed.
It's just...it really is comfortable...
Fang Wuwei squinted, letting the cat climb and twist all over him. Although it wasn't very comfortable, the cat was cute, so he forgave it.
Until...
Just as Fang Wuwei was enjoying the sun, a shadow blocked the sunlight falling on Fang Wuwei, interrupting his happy time.
What's the difference between the sun suddenly disappearing when you're enjoying it and a recording stopping halfway through?!
Fang Wuwei opened his eyes, annoyed, but his irritation vanished instantly when he saw the person in front of him.
"As expected! You are the Great Sage!" The girl in front of him carefully scrutinized Fang Wuwei's face, recognizing him, and then was overjoyed, shouting and pouncing directly onto Fang Wuwei, clinging to him, scaring away the cat that had been lying on Fang Wuwei's lap. "Long time no see!!"
"You are... Shichimiya Satone." A pink circular whip, cyan eyes, and that heart-shaped sticker below her left eye, along with that ridiculously long black scarf—there was no need to say who the girl was. Fang Wuwei helplessly patted Shichimiya's back, calming her excited heart. "Get up first."
Shichimiya obediently got off Fang Wuwei, but the joy of reunion on her face hadn't diminished in the slightest. "How mean! You left without a word! After you left, it was so hard for the Hero and me to resist the angels' invasion!" Shichimiya Satone complained about Fang Wuwei's sudden transfer, completely disregarding that less than half a year after he left, she, too, left Yuta without a word. Anyway, in her eyes, Fang Wuwei wouldn't know about it. "You said you would always respond to my mental signals in the Electronic Sea, but I couldn't contact you a year ago!"
Hearing this, Fang Wuwei searched his memories and found that a year ago was precisely when Fang Wuwei emerged from the pain of losing both parents and matured overnight. He had changed his email address and hadn't notified anyone. Otherwise, it's likely that Fang Wuwei, Shichimiya, and Yuta would have maintained contact until Fang Wuwei arrived.
Fang Wuwei rubbed his temples. He never expected that just going out for a walk would lead to such a big problem, meeting a female character who should appear in the second season of the original work, and who was also one of Fang Wuwei's original former best friends.
If he had known this would happen, Fang Wuwei would have died before leaving his home today. In his opinion, key characters appearing early was not a good thing.
No... it's not certain. What if a transmigrator suddenly attacked this world, and he didn't even know where a key figure like Shichimiya Satone was? He wouldn't even be able to protect his home.
"Why are you here?" Fang Wuwei's thoughts returned to the present. Shichimiya sat down close beside him, holding the cat she had just scared away.
"My current base is nearby, but my father's work has been a bit troublesome lately, and we might move." Shichimiya isn't like Rikka; her chuunibyou is simply because she finds it cool and fun, so she can distinguish between reality and fantasy, making her much easier to communicate with than Rikka.
However, because she never gave up her chuunibyou, she only had two friends, Fang Wuwei and Yuta, before transferring schools. After transferring, she only had Nibutani as a good friend. Shichimiya had few friends and had not been in a better social environment, so Shichimiya's behavior was actually more like a child's.
For example, intimate hugs and nose touches are seen as extremely affectionate gestures by ordinary people, but in Shichimiya's eyes, they are as normal as greeting someone; she cannot distinguish the proper distance people should maintain.
It was precisely because of this that so many problems arose in the second season.
"What about the Great Sage? Where is the current base?" Shichimiya stroked the cat in her hands up and down, her cat-stroking skills top-notch. Fang Wuwei didn't think much about this question and told Shichimiya the address.
Since Fang Wuwei was walking in the opposite direction of the school, and the distance from his home to the school was even greater than from Yuta's home to the school, he was already in a somewhat suburban area.
But Shichimiya was pleasantly surprised; that place wasn't too far from her home, and she could even visit when she had time!
After entering high school, no one understood the power of the Demon King Magical Girl anymore, which made her feel a bit lonely.
"Also, are you still in contact with the Hero?" This question had actually surfaced in Shichimiya's mind the moment she saw Fang Wuwei, but she had been procrastinating until now, finally asking it casually.
"Hero? Yuta?" Fang Wuwei was stunned. Of course, he knew that Shichimiya had liked Yuta since middle school and that her feelings hadn't changed even years later. But the biggest and most tragic problem was that she wasn't the female lead. The female lead was Rikka, and no matter what, he couldn't bring Shichimiya to Yuta before Rikka and Yuta had fallen in love.
Yuta had once liked Shichimiya, not to mention that Rikka and Yuta hadn't yet formed a romantic relationship. If Shichimiya were rashly introduced... Yuta could accept the chuunibyou Rikka, so why wouldn't he be able to accept the chuunibyou Shichimiya?
However, he couldn't lie to Shichimiya. Shichimiya was so kind that the setting even described her as "a girl so kind that even demons couldn't bear to harm her." Indeed, Fang Wuwei couldn't bear to lie to her, nor dared to, as she would be moving upstairs from Yuta's home next year.
So what on earth should he do?
For a moment, Fang Wuwei fell into a brainstorming session, a song echoing in his mind.
"but you didn't have to cut me off ~
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing ~
and I don't even need your love,
but you treat me like a stranger and I feels so rough ~"
(bgm: somebody that I used to know)
"...What's wrong? Great Sage?" Shichimiya saw that Fang Wuwei was distracted and thought she had said something wrong. "Did something happen between you and the Hero...? That's not okay! We are comrades on the same front!"
The kind Shichimiya thought the two had a conflict and was preparing to mediate, acting as a peacemaker in their former capacity as close friends, and conveniently getting to see Yuta.
"No... things are more complicated than you think... much more complicated."
Fang Wuwei was also conflicted. From the perspective of a friend, he had no standing to decide Shichimiya's romance. Moreover, Rikka and Yuta weren't dating yet, so it would be perfectly reasonable if Shichimiya wanted to pursue Yuta.
But from the Guardian's perspective, no matter what, Shichimiya could only exit the stage with regret...
Fang Wuwei felt a pang of sympathy for Shichimiya. He gazed steadily at Shichimiya, who was still staring at him with a puzzled expression, and finally could only sigh and pat her head.
He wanted to find a solution that would satisfy both, but... how easy was that?
But very quickly, Fang Wuwei suddenly had an idea:
Why was he worrying so much? Shichimiya was a main character, she had the World Consciousness! He just had to do his part! The rest could be handled by the World Consciousness itself!
So Fang Wuwei readily agreed. Shichimiya was naturally happy, so the two exchanged contact information and agreed to meet again tomorrow.
Sure enough, when they met again tomorrow, Shichimiya had completely forgotten about the matter and played wildly with Fang Wuwei all day until she suddenly remembered it when she got home for dinner.
