Chapter 37 - Test of Unity

The chains hung in the air, motionless for a moment, as if holding their breath. The Scythe hovered just above the pit, dark metal gleaming faintly, energy pulsing like a heartbeat.

Alex stepped forward, his gaze steady. "This is it. Everyone stay focused. One wrong move, and the chains will react."

Lyra's hands glowed softly, illuminating the edges of the pit. "We can do this… together."

Vile adjusted his glasses, scanning the patterns in the chains. "The rhythm's changing. The closer we get, the faster it responds. We need perfect coordination."

Mya gritted her teeth, hands clenched. "Fine. Let's move. No hesitation."

Kira crouched, pointing to the faint glowing links. "Step in sync. Don't break formation. Watch the chains, not the weapon."

Liam swallowed but nodded. "I'll stay close… I won't let anyone down."

Step by careful step, the group advanced. The chains swayed in calculated arcs, some rising to form a path, others curling to block dangerous angles. Every movement had to match the chains' rhythm.

"Clink… drag… clink… drag…" Vile whispered. "It's almost like a heartbeat. Follow it exactly."

The Scythe pulsed as they moved, energy vibrating through the ground. The closer they got, the more the chains responded testing them, probing for weaknesses.

Mya darted forward, deflecting a whipping link with her blade. "It's aggressive now! Don't fall behind!"

Ethan's eyes gleamed. "Almost there… I can feel it!"

Liam stumbled, nearly breaking the pattern, but Lyra's glowing shield steadied him. "Careful… one step at a time," she said softly.

Alex's voice rang out, calm but commanding. "Almost there. Keep the rhythm. Stay together."

With a final coordinated movement, they reached the center platform. The chains rose slightly, forming a circle around the Scythe, then paused. The weapon pulsed one last time, as if acknowledging their teamwork.

Alex stepped forward and reached out. "We understand the test. We move as one, we observe, and we succeed together. The Scythe… is ours."

The moment his fingers brushed the hilt, the Scythe's energy surged outward. The chains lifted entirely, forming a protective aura around the team. The pulse of energy wasn't violent it was a signal of acceptance.

Ethan's eyes widened. "We… we did it. It's… ours?"

Vile leaned closer, awe in his voice. "The energy… it's responding to all of us. Not just one person. That's why it accepted you."

Lyra smiled softly. "Together, we passed the challenge."

Mya sheathed her blade, smirking. "Finally. I thought those chains were going to drive me crazy."

Kira nodded silently, eyes still on the Scythe, but a rare faint smile tugged at her lips.

Alex lifted the Scythe carefully, testing its weight and balance. "This isn't just a weapon. It's a test of unity. And we passed. Let's make sure we stay worthy of it."

The team gathered close, looking at the weapon that pulsed with quiet, restrained power. The chains around the pit had settled, and the air felt lighter, as if the Scythe itself approved of their success.

The weapon was now theirs.

And Alex knew this was only the beginning. The Scythe was powerful, mysterious, and demanded respect. Together, they would uncover every secret it held.
