I tried to move, but a sharp pain shot through my head. I managed to sit up, my sense of smell immediately picking up the familiar, sterile scent of disinfectant lingering in the air. My fingers instinctively went to my head, finding it bandaged. But wait, I hadn't been injured there. Hadn't I died? Didn't that so-called father of mine and his vixen make sure to kill me? Confusion swirled in my mind.
A slight creak of the door made me alert. I snapped my head toward the sound, and a slender female figure practically launched herself at me, showering my face with kisses. Ugh. Right from the start, I never liked people acting this way. I gently pushed her back, then studied her features. She wasn't bad, actually – good-looking, to be honest. But where did I know her from? She looked familiar, and a name slipped from my lips almost subconsciously: "Young-i?"
Her eyes, swollen from what looked like a lot of crying, widened as fresh tears welled. The fact that my heart inexplicably ached as she sobbed was something I couldn't quite grasp. She threw herself at me again, this time hugging me as if terrified I would vanish. "I'll go call Mom!" the lady blurted out, rushing from the room.
Mom? Which mom? All I knew was that my mom was dead; I'd put her in her grave, so I was certain she was gone. No one had ever truly accepted me as their son, not even Tae Jim's wife. My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by a powerful, motherly hug.
"Mom missed you, my child. How are you feeling? Where does it hurt?" the woman asked, her voice thick with concern, her eyes also swollen. Who were these people? I tried desperately to remember, but my head pulsed with such intense pain that I squinted my eyes, clutching my temples. The woman affectionately placed a hand on my shoulder. "Kim dear, what is it? Does your head hurt? Mommy will get a doctor!" she exclaimed, rushing out.
She knew my name. How? All this while, I'd been sitting on this hospital bed like an alien, unable to understand anything. What had happened to me?
Suddenly, an urgent need to use the bathroom hit me. I splashed water on my face, then reached for a towel. When I looked in the mirror... What the...? This was a disaster. My face... no... no... I touched it, utterly bewildered. What had happened to my face?
This new face was incredibly handsome, with a thin, long, pointed nose, captivatingly shaped eyes, and eyeballs that were almost cat-like. My lips were a sexy, curved pink. If you couldn't differentiate, you'd easily call me a lady, especially with my long, bluish-purple hair. I wondered if the hair was dyed or natural. My new skin was perfectly maintained and fair. My right ear was pierced, a round gold earring visible. My eye color was a striking bluish-ash. I was tall with a good body structure, yet I still looked almost feminine. From afar, you would bet your life I was a lady. This new body seemed to belong to a teenager too, approximately seventeen to nineteen.
Surprisingly, I seemed to love the new looks. I stayed in the bathroom for almost an hour, but what was I even doing there? Of course, I was checking myself. Had my old, ugly face been damaged and replaced with this handsome one? But no, what about the body? It wasn't mine either. So the question was, who was this? I dried my hands, and then it hit me. I was reborn, just like in the web novel.
I walked back to the place where I woke up, surprised to see a table laden with different kinds of food. That's when I realized I wasn't just hungry; I was starving. I walked gracefully and sat on the bed, finally taking in the room. This room—it was a VVIP (Very Very Important Person) suite. That meant this family must have serious money.
"Kim, please eat something," the woman who called me son said, her voice gentle.
A flicker of a flashback, indistinct and hazy, crossed my mind. "Mrs. Woo," I said, the words low and harsh, filled with a sudden, unexplained bitterness.
The woman's face crumpled, clearly heartbroken. "Can't you at least forget about your differences for now? Our third master just woke up after ten years in a coma. Thanks to Heaven, his growth wasn't affected, but please, let's not argue," Young-i pleaded.
I didn't argue further. I casually picked up a bowl of soup and drank it. This body didn't seem to be a heavy eater; I felt full almost immediately. Everything was cleared from the table, and then I was served fruit. I seemed to remember something else, and I subtly scanned the room. As expected, I didn't find who I was looking for. A sneer crept onto my face.
"As expected, he didn't come," I found myself saying in a cold voice. My whole demeanor was just cold and emotionless. I maintained a straight, unyielding expression.
"Brother Kim, please don't create a scene," a male voice spoke, belonging to a handsome blonde man, about twenty to twenty-two, who looked a bit cautious, as if afraid of angering me. I gave him a cutting glare. His name clicked into place.
"Tell me, Brother Hyung, are you happy that your little brother is alive?" I asked with another sneer, my tone laced with accusation. My sudden question caused all eyes to dart from me to the blonde man.
"Yes, why wouldn't I want my little Ki-Ki to wake?" the accused man replied, though his smile seemed forced.
I allowed a brief smirk, and then my expression turned cold again. "I want to go home," I stated.
Shortly after, a Bentley pulled up to the hospital gate. We left. I was surprised at my own actions. How did I know these people, and how did I command such things? Regardless, I'd have to stay with them, as I'd started a new life.
The car drove into a massive mansion. As if I knew the place intimately, I climbed out of the car and headed directly to my room. Walking through the house, I could feel the surprised gazes of the house helps, but as if I were used to it, I simply passed them and entered my room. Now, I was reborn as Kim Woo. Even though our first names were the same, I felt that I was possessing a lot. And this new body was clearly that of a spoiled brat.
