Chapter 108 - Underworld War: Star of Ruin

*CRASH!*

Yin and Yang dove in and struck at Garmr at the same time. Their clawed fists blazing with light and shadow magic, bathing the mountain ruins in black and white. Garmr was pushed back over fifty meters, his body still sparking with red lightning as he held both of their fists in his open palms.

One hand sizzled and steamed from the light magic radiating from Yang's fist while the other hissed and crackled from the dark magic emanating from Yin's.

*FWISH*

Then, he leapt over a hundred meters, carrying them both up with him before spinning in the air and throwing the two Dragons through two unfinished towers. The collapsing metal and steel kicking up a large cloud of dust and debris as the sound of the falling structures rang out throughout the ruins.

The twins burst out of the rubble, just in time to avoid a dropkick from hell, courtesy of Garmr. Massive pillars of lightning struck out in a wide circle from the impact crater he created. He looked up and grinned psychotically as the two released their breath attacks.

Black flames and searing white light both hit the ground, bathing the entire mountain area in black and white magic. Buildings toppled and everything was laid to waste. But still, Garmr had survived.

His leg regenerated along with much of his fur. It seemed that although Yang's light magic could more effectively injure him, it couldn't hinder his regeneration. Garmr roared and dug his claws into the ruined street before grunting and pouring his entire strength into throwing an entire city block at the two.

"Holy fuck!" Yang exclaimed as both her and Yin flew up, avoiding the massive slab of concrete, metal and earth thrown at them.

The three hundred meter chunk of the ruined town smashed violently into the ground below and shook the ground. Even many in Vale, which was over twenty kilometers away had felt the impact.

"Yang-" Yin called out as a huge dust cloud covered the ruins. Her eyes widened as she saw Garmr crouch and leap up, his body surging with red lightning as he tried to grab Yang.

Yin hurriedly pushed her away, just in time to get her away from the Mythic Grimm, but not in time to escape herself.

*BZZZZT-CRAAAAACK!!*

"Sis!" Yang called out as Yin felt her head spin. Garmr had caught her by the leg and uppercut her while his fight was clad in lightning.

The force of the impact made her fall out of the sky. Her consciousness flickering as Yang swooped down and caught her before setting Yin down in some rubble, just in time for Garmr to land nearby.

"Good eyes, that one. That blow mighta gave you a concussion." Garmr stated, rolling his lupine shoulders and watching his fractured fist regenerate.

Truthfully, he was surprised. He had put his full strength into that punch. Something that could destroy mountains in one go. But Yin? She was already getting up. Shakily, she touched her head, feeling quite a few of her scaled had shattered and broken off. Blood was oozing from her damaged hide and she was certain if she took another hit like that, she'd be out of the fight.

*Ptui*

Yin spat out a glob of blood and faced Garmr with her sister.

"Let's jump his ass.." Yin growled, both her and Yang suddenly moving once more.

Garmr prepared as the twins blurred forward, poised to strike. He grinned and moved forward, fist striking out to meet their attacks. But while he was swinging, he noticed the two suddenly stopping, their attacks a feint to draw him forward. Then, they both punched forward and struck Garmr's snout.

*CRA-CRACK!!*

His face caved in slightly as the white armor exploded. Yet even after that, they didn't stop.

Yin whipped her tail into his ribs, Yang held onto his arms and hammerfisted the back of his head with her wings. Then, after they got him on the ground, both of them unleashed their breath attacks again while pinning him down. Black flames and light seared his flesh, even disintegrating the rest of his white plate armor. Their attacks were so strong, a crater began forming around the Mythic Grimm.

*BZZZZT!*

But Garmr wasn't going to just take it. Looking up at them through the flames and light, he growled and shot a truck-sized lightning spear through the flames and straight into Yin's belly before detonating it.

"Gh-!!" Yin spat up blood as the lightning pierced her hide and electrocuted her, the shock and power pushing her over thirty meters away.

Yang nearly panicked and took her eyes off Garmr but decided not to. Even regenerating, she knew he was still very dangerous. Her scaled claws and wings struggled to pin his limbs down as she unleashed more of her light magic.

▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!!

Garmr felt his eyes bubble and pop as Yang's light incinerated more of his Grimm flesh. Though he noticed the sheer quantity of the magic bearing down on him was lessening and decided to endure it until her breath attack started failing.

*CRACK!!*

Garmr struck Yang's chin with the back of his head as soon as he felt her magic run dry. Then, he kicked her knee and freed his arm, striking her across the face with his elbow and sending her flying back too.

"Haaa..gh... gehehe.... zhat... huuurght..." Garmr grunted as he wobbily stood up, his body regenerating within seconds.

If he had to compare Yang's light magic to anything, it'd be like a stronger version of the Silver Eyes in terms of destructive capability. He spat out a few fangs the twins knocked loose before they regenerated and noticed Yin get up with what seemed to be a scowl.

*Clap-Clap-Clap*

Garmr clapped, seeing Yin still get up despite how damaged she had been. The ruins were annihilated and even the mountain had suffered damage. If this fight happened in Vale, they would have sunk the entire Kingdom.

"We'll resume our fight in a moment. I hate leavin' a worthy opponent unfinished. Dishonors them." Garmr stated as he started walking over to a barely conscious Yang.

"No.." Yin grunted, moving toward him as she felt her still open wound ooze blood onto the ground.

Her free hand clamped down on it, feeling a breathtaking pain wrack her body. But seeing Yang in danger, she summoned her flames to her hands and pressed it into the open wound, searing it shut.

"Ghh..!!" Yin grunted, still crawling toward Garmr as he strut over to Yang.

Her hand closed around his ankle, stopping him briefly. He actually looked surprised when he looked back and saw Yin shove her claws into his lower back.

*SHHK*

Garmr grunted and pulled her claws out before nailing another Lightning Spear into Yin's back. A silent scream tore through her throat as pain wracked her body. But she still held onto his ankle.

"You're persistent. Listen.. I'll make this quick. You both deserve the respect true opponents should receive." Garmr stated, his voice serious and firm as he moved his leg out of Yin's grasp and stood over Yang.

Yin watched as the Grimm loomed over her sister. And her mind pulled her right back to where she had been years ago.

The Beowolf mangling her arm. The desperation she felt when she realized what she'd do to Yang. The fear of losing Yang. Her mind spiraled.

Fear. Fear. Fear.

In the dark, she saw three things. A large, metal door. Open, almost all the way. A flame insignia etched onto the metal frame. It was birthright. Raw elemental fury.

Next to it, a massive door. Black as midnight and only partially open. Behind it, she heard it. That familiar sound that changed her life.

𝕿𝖍𝖚𝖒𝖕-𝕿𝖍𝖚𝖒𝖕

The beating of her heart. The swirling abyss insignia etched into the door. An inheritance from the powerful organ beating in her chest.

Then, the last door.

Opened only a sliver. It was larger than Vale itself. The flame door was as big as a several floor building. The darkness door was as big as Beacon. This door was incomprehensible.

Coming from that sliver of an opening was a deep, purple light. Etched on the frame, half a spiral. The door to 'Ruin' sat there, waiting. Always waiting. On the brink of Ruin, one could only see a glimpse of it. The gate to Null. Nothingness. The power of annihilation.

"I'll never let her go. Not before me. No, not even if I go.." She muttered as she pried the doors open.

An overwhelming silence overcame the ruined land. Garmr stopped in his tracks. Standing over Yang, he had prepared one last strike. But then he felt it. This wrongness in the air. He couldn't even hear his own breathing or his beating heart in his ears anymore.

He turned around and saw a massive pillar of black and dark purple spilling into the sky. He stared at it, forgetting to breathe.

A memory, not his own replayed in his head. Seeing a Dragon clench its hand and bathing the world in destruction. This felt so much more potent. Worse. Like something was descending into a world it was never supposed to.

"Huh..?" He hadn't realized it until just then, but he was suspended several kilometers in the sky.

His mind quickly caught up as he realized what this was. He laughed, carefree as usual.

"Kehehehe! Even like that, you prioritized her safety eh? Well, I'm just glad you didn't anticlimatically disintegrate me, Lass." Garmr grinned, staring into the black Dragon radiating destructive energy like a star.

Her wounds were still present and this was looking to be her last attack. Garmr began to glow a fierce crimson as he wreathed his claws in lightning and prepared to attack. While all the bright energy coalesced into Yin's body. Her wings stretched out, as if to challenge him one last time.

"COME ON THEN!! LET ME SEE WHAT YOU GOT!" Garmr shot lightning out of his feet and lunged at Yin, claws poised to sever her head.

Yin tucked her wings in and dove straight at Garmr. Her claws gaining an ethereal glow as they both collide.

Yet.. instead of an explosion, the world remained silent as an ultra bright light lit up the sky.

A wolf fell, body crumbling to dust as his magic fizzled out. His grin transitioning into a satisfied smirk as he looked up at the one who finally killed him.

Truth was, after so much time had passed, he longed for a worthy death. And finally, he had what he wanted.

"Ahh.... that was.. so much fun. Thanks.." He whispered as he crumbled to nothing before ever hitting the ground.

While Yin barely kept herself awake long enough to descend safely. Her whole body was exhausted beyond belief but as soon as she noticed Yang was awake and panicking, looking for her, she fell the last few dozen meters and passed out.

"Sis!" Yang yelled, her body returning to human form as she limped over and checked on her sister in frantic worry.

Meanwhile...

"I believe we're done here." Cinder stated, putting her scroll away after sending the recorded video to her Mistress.

They were nearby the Mountain Glenn ruins, within a safehouse forgotten by Huntsmen. Cinder looked shaken beneath her calm facade. She could barely keep her hands from trembling when she was recording the fight but now everything was done. She no longer needed to dwell in Vale anymore. For that, she was thankful.

"Whew.. do I need to lug armless here all the way to Mistral?" Mercury asked behind her, pointing at an armless William Gelle with multiple bruises, cuts and burns marring his body from his escape.

The armless William was unconscious and bandaged up. She took a risk fishing him out of the canal but believed it to be worth it. William was cunning if a bit overeager but Cinder had a feeling he would be very useful as a subordinate after breaking him in. As for Mercury, she already had him on her side since the beginning. Carmilla thought she had his loyalty but in truth, everything she did and planned was relayed back to Cinder.

"We have a Bullhead, Mercury. It's tucked away nearby in the Forever Fall Forest. You did extremely well these past few months. I'm proud of you." Cinder complimented, her smile genuine.

Mercury looked away with a small smirk he tried to play off.

"Nah it's nothing compared to what you did. Orchestrated the whole...-" Mercury looked at the unconscious William and gave her a knowing look.

Cinder smirked and nodded, accepting his compliment. The reason William had been cornered like he had been was due to Cinder. Tipping off the right people, pressuring the right councilors to act and a little bargain with Carmilla to get Mercury back was all it took to succeed.

She got her subordinates ready and her Mistresses' orders completed. Now, it was time to go.

"Come, Mercury. We'll lay low for a while in Mistral."

-Evernight Castle, Grimmlands-

Salem replayed the video sent by Cinder again and again. Her long, white hair spilling over her trembling shoulders. It was the end of the video that agitated her so.

"They must be their children.. But why?" Salem muttered, sitting alone in her throne room.

She had no idea why they would go after them. They were strong, yes. But inferior compared to the true Demigod he left behind. The one still sleeping. The one who had tortured her countless times. Who had blamed her for their Father abandoning them.

Salem's red irises stilled when she replayed the last segment of the fight. Garmr's death. Some tiny black particles flew from his corpse and entered Yin. She had no idea what it was.

She pushed the thought away for the moment and focused on the accomplishment itself. That attack she used on Garmr. That reality bending energy.

"She can kill me.."
