Chapter 26 - Pigeon in cage

Control.

The general, having lit a cigarette, listens to the report from "7". He perceives each subsequent news with accumulated anger. At the moment of Zelda's report on the attack by the "man in the white cape," the General could not stand it and said.

— Is the Princess alive?

"7", flipping through the documents.

— Yes. But her condition, both physical and psychological, is not known...

The general wiped his forehead.

— Okay, notify me as soon as possible. In the meantime, we need to decide what to do with the rest of the team.

The colonel suggested it.

— Assemble a rescue team and send it to rescue.

"7" is skeptical.

— The prison is too heavily guarded for a quiet operation. We also do not know the exact layout of the building, which makes it difficult to arrange a mission.

Dollishop also spoke.

— And we don't have the people to assemble a new rescue squad, and sending adult agents is too impractical...

The general stubbed out his cigarette.

— Okay, we need to find those who can carry out the operation, collect at least the most raw ones, but assemble a squad for me!

"7", reviewing the documents, added.

— What should we do about the situations in the colonies? It seems that protests are starting in some of them...

The general's voice was gruff.

— Let the Kingdom or the Commonwealth handle this, not us!

Day.

The Duke of Normandy's office.

Gazelle reports on the latest news, including an assassination attempt by a "man in a white cape." The Duke standing by the window said.

—Is she well?

The Gazelle spoke.

— Yes...

The Duke's voice was serious.

— Good. As for Incognito and others, let's take a closer look.

The Gazelle began to talk.

— Riots broke out in Incognia, Arkham and several large areas. Perhaps this is due to the uncertainty in the Kingdom's power.

The Duke sat down at the table.

— It seems that the rumors have reached them, we need to start doing something, otherwise we will lose control not only here, but also in the rest of the possessions. Another bloody revolution must not be allowed...

Prison.

Disheveled, Ange tries to build a homemade lock pick from improvised means, but when she heard footsteps, she quickly hid everything and pretended to be asleep.

Richard's voice came through the dream.

— Miss Le Carré, if you would like to talk to me, I have some news for you...

Ange, opening her eyes, slowly got up and walked over to the bars.

Richard, standing with his back to the bars.

— Princess Charlotte was attacked...

The girl was surprised, but a little doubted the guy's words and asked.

— Who did it and when?

Richard took out the letter and said.

— That's what we want to know... — then he handed a note.

Ange thought about it again, but took it carefully. The girl was very surprised. But the letter contained only some wishes and suggestions for improving people's lives.

Richard lights a cigarette.

— It would seem that the usual wishes for improving the lives of citizens are noble and beautiful... but getting them from someone who is able to jump on cars and demolish them completely at will is somehow unusual... But it occurred to me that this was an encrypted letter. My friend and I couldn't translate it, but... Can you do it?

Ange is surprised.

— With we? It seems you've come to the wrong place, ask Zelda, she works for you now...

Richard grinned.

— Yeah... But as I understand it, you are more interested in this, well, as a sign of good help, I will help with your problem, do not expect amnesty, but life... They can stay with you...

Ange looked at the letter again and said.

— I'll need paper, the latest issue of the newspaper, and time...

Richard grinned at her.

— So we found a common language, we will find things, but know that time is limited.

— How much?

— I don't know... It will depend on your friends...

The prince left. Ange sat on the bed with the letter and read it over and over again.

The state bank.

An explosion occurred, and a group of people with bags ran out of the smoke, which immediately got into a parked car. The intruders immediately rushed forward. A few moments later, two more cars followed them. There was a Gazelle in one of them. The chase began. The robbers were driving so fast that they ignored oncoming cars, which caused a lot of accidents. The persecution continued, but without success. Then the weapon came into play. The Gazelle started firing, and the robbers began dropping explosives. Several checkers flew past, but one flashed on the hood of the second car, which prevented it from continuing to move.

The robbers lit a smoke bomb so that smoke filled the street. The Gazelle car had to go through another lane, which increased the distance between the cars.

The robbers began to cheer a little and did not notice a man in a white cape who had crept up on the side of a random car.

The masked man threw the kusarigama so that it would catch and prevent the cars from going far away. Gazelle expressed a sincere misunderstanding by saying.

— What th?..

A man in a cape crawled across an artificial bridge, almost falling, he managed to catch his feet on the car of the intruders. After making his way across the roof, he smashed the front window with the help of kunai and threw a smoke bomb into the cabin. In the conditions of complete darkness, the robbers had to slow down, but in the end they accidentally crashed into a wooden bench. The man in the cape managed to jump off and watched Gazelle's car go.

Instantly, a crowd gathered. One of the people took a picture of the masked man with a camera, after which the photographer pushed Frankie away with screams.

— You bastard! You destroyed my stall!

But the man in the mask and cape only looked at the man, turned around and left.

In the prison, meanwhile, Ange was on the floor, surrounded by a pile of papers, trying to decipher the message. Richard came up and asked.

— Any luck?

Ange, without looking up.

— In the process, this cipher is the most complex I've seen.

Richard turned and leaned back against the bars.

— Of course, I'm not rushing you, but there's less and less time now. But don't get distracted, no way, I'll just stand here without attracting too much attention.

Ange thought about it, the phrase "attracting attention" seemed to shoot through her head. She randomly began sorting through her notes and, taking a couple of sheets and checking the letter, began to write something down on empty paper. Richard turned his head inquisitively.

Ange took the paper and the letter, went to the grate and handed them over. Richard asked.

— I think you made a mistake, but these are two identical pieces of paper.

Ange with a serious face.

— Because there is no code here, take a look at the date and place of the meeting.

Richard reviewed it.

— The fact that there is no such date at home, we already guessed what's next?

Ange continued.

— And the fact that on the reverse side there is a shipping address and time. But at the same time, the shipping time will only come tomorrow.

Richard looked at the letter and grinned.

— It's a pleasure doing business with you, so be it, I'll touch your friends.

But as he was leaving, he said softly.

— Someone else will do it...

Control.

"7" retells the latest events.

— The royal bank was robbed today, the intruders were chased, but the intervening Harlequin, named in the newspaper, eliminated the robbers and subsequently disappeared.

The general lit a cigar.

— A hero, then... The Kingdom and the Commonwealth may think so, but he remains just another threat to us... What about the White Dove? Any news?

"7" examined the documents.

— At the moment, Agent "A" is trying to decipher the letter left by "Harlequin" in exchange for lenient sentences...

The colonel is skeptical.

— I doubt the prince will keep his promise, they need to be rescued today...

Dollishop laughed.

— Can we ask the "white cape"? What's the point of heroism?

"7" I assumed.

— I doubt the good intentions of the man in the mask, I assume that he is building riddles for a reason.

The General sighed.

— Okay, assemble a group and send it to rescue as soon as possible...

The Royal house.

Charlotte was walking down the corridor. Passing by Mary's room, guarded by two guards, she wanted to listen to the conversations, but nothing happened.

Charlotte went into her room, locking the door behind her. Sighing, she used pillows and a wig to make a doppelganger to depict that she was in bed, and she packed up and went out the window and headed in an unknown direction.

Somewhere near the prison.

Richard got into the car. Zelda and the bodyguard were in it. The spy immediately asked.

— Was she able to decipher the message?

The Prince handed over the letter with a smile.

— Yes, and it seems that Harlequin wanted to check on us and apparently knew that we had the opportunity to decrypt the message.

Zelda asked.

— And what do you intend to do?

Richard, shifting his foot to the other.

— I'll meet him... He can set any trap. If he is able to cooperate, then we can come to an agreement... And you will finally deal with the lovebirds, otherwise they have already divorced.

Ange's confinement.

The girl was writing something on a hidden piece of paper. Suddenly, hearing a rustle, she quickly covered her tracks. Zelda came up to the bars with a vindictive smile. Ange came closer, and Zelda, with a gun behind her back, spoke.

— It's a pity that everything turned out that way, because everything could have turned out differently for us. But there is also a plus – today, indeed, someone will take the shared secret to the grave...

Zelda had already pointed her gun, but a metallic rumble on the floor distracted the spy's attention. It was the other spies who broke down the bars of Chise's cell.

Ange was praising those few seconds to draw her gun. Before Zelda could look back, she was stunned from behind. Dorothy opens Ange's camera, laughing.

— I always thought that this would be how we would get the princess out of the lock, and not each other.

Ange in a serious voice.

— Let's go.

So Ange, Dorothy, Chise, Beatrice and four spies go down the floors. A bodyguard was pacing Stephen and Lawrence's floor, waiting for something, but when he saw the spy, he immediately threw explosives at Lawrence's cell. The grate was torn, as was the floor of the room. Those in the cell were stunned.

The spies had already caught up with the man, but the guards intervened and surrounded them.

Everyone pointed pistols at each other, and some had bladed weapons. The situation escalated to the highest point.

Suddenly, there was a scream and a man in a white cape burst out of the window. Standing up to his full height, he said.

— I'm sorry...

And he threw smoke bombs...

Somewhere in the port.

Richard arrived at the appointed place and time. But there was no one there. He was about to leave, but then a silhouette appeared from the shadows. It was Charlotte. Richard laughed and said.

— I should have known...
