I sit up and look down at her. "Do you need to go to the bathroom?" I ask. "Or are you thirsty? Hungry?"
She shakes her head. "I wanna go...play." She pouts.
"Mm, do you?" Her fever has yet to break. It's only a day into her sickness. She's not at all fit to be playing right now, especially how she normally does.
I won't let her go running and burn up all the energy her body needs to heal, of course, but...I don't think she even has enough energy for herself to think that.
I can see how exhausted she is just looking into her eyes. Even this little daredevil in front of me won't be tempted to try to burn energy she doesn't have.
She's probably just bored.
"...I'm tired of being...bored." May pouts, her cheeks puffing out. She looks away, crossing her arms. "Wanna go play...with Big Sis and Uncle and..." She trails off, her lip trembling.
I sigh and scoop her into my arms.
She clings like a koala, settling her head on my shoulder.
